What's the problem with it? He's only 31.
Exactly but the problem on this forum is that most of the members seem to be between 10-13yo so they cant grasp the age-thing.

We NEED some players that has seen some shit and has experience!

It is experience we need and that's what we got. Edgar Davids made a hell of a difference with the 'kids' so hopefully Gilberto will be the same.

Lee can't be faulted for his effort but he is frustratingly lightweight at times. Also it would be nice to have a full back who can cross the ball, Chimbo is as guilty as Lee where wasteing crosses is concerned.
I think that Gilberto has been bought in as first choice

He might well be, but Y P Lee has been one of our most consistent players since he joined the club.

Im really sorry but i must be watching a diffrent game when i go over the lane every week, he has no final ball his positional play is shocking and he cant cross and he has to cut in side everytime he plays, :bang:

That would be the reason Mr Ramos has been playing a midfielder at left back and Bruce Lee has been on the bench, sorry but BAE was bought to replace him, and then Bale both who have been unlucky with injury, my good Leey Young Pyo cat even play right back very well and he is right footed.

First of all, Lee is a defender, and there aren't many better full backs and defending than him (I don't find him frustratingly lightweight at all). Secondly, all of his attacking build up play must go unnoticed to most of you. He's not brilliant at crossing, but he doesn't have to be. We don't even really have anyone in the team that can cross very well, but we don't play like that anyway.

When you say "the lane", do you mean White Hart Lane? Because I'm not so sure that you do. He often has a final ball, it's just rarely a cross. His positional play is very very good, so I'm not sure what your problem with that is. When he cuts in, does he usually manage to get it to another Tottenham player, helping our attack progress? I would say he does.

Maybe BAE was bought with the intention of replacing him, but that certainly didn't happen as he's proven that he's nowhere near to the quality of Lee. Bale, again, is nothing like as good defensively as Lee, and they both complimented each other well, I thought, when Bale was on the left wing in front of Lee. Lee can't play right back as well he can left back because left back is his position and has been his whole career. It doesn't matter that he's right footed. Some players are better on the opposing side to their stronger foot, especially when they've spent at least a decade playing there.

Well i"d change that around a bit.

Gilberto - King - Woodgate - Hutton

Daws goes to the reserves imo.

I assumed he was just trying to make them a bit fairer? Woodgate's obviously a first team player when fit, because like Ledley, he's one of the best central defenders in the world.

oh dear......

Wrong and racist all in one go.

Wrong perhaps but calling that racism is what allows the REAL racism to go unoticed!

I think at worst it is ignorant but really it is just a poor attempt at humour!

As I see it, Lee is a very good left-back. He is as good at DEFENDING as probably any left-back in the league. He just does not offer a great deal going forward in comparison to the dynamic runs of Bale for example.

If you recall last season when he was injured and we were struggling even Jol came out and said that having Lee on the left basically pushes the entire team forward because as soon as he gets the ball he runs with it.

He also never has anybody in front of him to pass to or who can overlap him or distract his opposing fullback, so essentially he has 2 players to get past and then has to cross on his wrong foot. As we saw on Sunday when Steed and O'hara marked Ronaldo, not even he could cope with that.

As for Gilberto, there are 2 interesting things to note. Firstly, although he is 31 he has played relatively few games in his career, I don't know why, but when I checked his personal website the other day I was surprised at the low number of games he has played.

Also, I remember during the world cup the commentator mentioning that Gilberto was a very good player that had deserved many more caps but had been stuck behind Roberto Carlos for most of his career and otherwise would have been a regular for Brazil.

That tells me that we have got a relatively fresh 31 year old player with alot of experience and alot of ability. You just don't get to play left-back for Brazil if your shit. I hope that he is an improvement on Lee in the sense that he allows us to be more fluid on that side, but unless we get somebody to play ahead of him who is left-footed he too will struggle. I suspect that we may well see him on the left side of midfield, ahead of Lee, at times.

fair point, well made.

Racist or not, it certainly is insulting and ignorant.

i dont think Ramos should dislodge LEE from his position just coz Gilberto comes in !

I think he will because Lee doesn't suit the attacking/marauding full-backs that he likes in his ideal team. Granted that Lee is defensively strongest amongst our full-back but his attacking product is poor so if Gilberto is anything like Cafu or Carlos was then he will surely walk straight into the team.

Sorry about Lee but he just isn't that great at attacking. Wonder how strong Gilberto is in the area of defending though.

Ageist!

He's only a year older than Leapy, and younger than Super Ed was when we signed him.
