No doubt that there has been some of this, but I think the disappointment is understandable when in the past week we’ve been linked with Daka (for me one of the top striker prospects in Europe) and Edouard (phenomenal record at a club whose stars regularly take to the PL immediately). Regardless there are reasons to be hopeful that Vinicius can do the business for us, so here’s hoping for the best.

As much as I want us to sign Daka, he is not a Jose striker. Edouard is a good shout...Of the minimal minutes I have seen of Vinicius, he does look like the bull type Mourinho striker. He certainly seems to have the swagger as a strong CB and also looks to have some pace and finish in him

I will say regardless of my reaction to this, I think I'd rather this guy over Milik (injury record, prone to the odd sitter and reportedly messed us around) and have him on par with Diallo. I'd be encouraged by this signing, I just got my heard turned by us scouting potential superstars in Edouard and to a lesser extent Daka earlier in the week.

It's all about the price on this deal for me. As you say, ability and skill set wise he looks about the same as Diallo, but we're told Diallo is cheapy cheap and an easy deal whereas Vinicius is a Mendes client, so I'd imagine Jorge will be trousering a hefty wedge off us (which winds me up) and bumps the price. We know funds are limited but I guess there could be some kind of creative deal a la Lo Celso. Like you though, I'd prefer we stay clear of Milik.

When did SC get so serious?

We may get him, we may not. At least wait until the match thread when he’s playing to have a proper go at him or whoever we sign!

Why does it matter? No-one is asking you to fork it out ffs. If we sign him for a club record fee that’s for Levy to worry about. The only thing that matters is that we believe he is the eighth signing to push us on. Posts saying someone can’t be our record signing etc are just a waste of time

For a team with limited resources and multiple areas to improve, it absolutely matters how much he costs relative to the level of risk.

To ignore that is to have your head completely in the sand. If the club had unlimited resources, then of course it wouldn’t matter.

Have a feeling we will look to sort a deal this coming week now that the name has come out
Complete a deal for him Monday or Tuesday, get Rose to Genoa, CCV & Foyth out to help raise funds. Get Gareth mostly sorted by the weekend, complete that after, go in for grealish or eriksen at the deadline and sell Serge & Sissoko or Lamela. Sorted.

Always funny when people list their top choices, it’s pretty much always the fastest players at top of list. People are obsessed with pace, I’m guessing it’s cos of FIFA.

You can't dismiss pace, it's an important attribute in a footballer. Do you think Liverpool would be as good as they are if Mane and Salah weren't electric? Have you never wondered how much better Lamela would be with a couple more yards of pace (and a better injury record).

Harry Redknapp used to talk about pace all the time, I doubt he even knows what FIFA is. The recently released dinosaurs on soccer Saturday too.

There are plenty of awful fast players, but athleticism combined with ability is usually what separates the elite players from the very good ones.

That's not to say its everything, us at Spurs know better than most as our talisman is Harry Kane, hardly a sprinter himself but a world class player nonetheless. That said you'd take a good fast player over a similarly good slow one every time, whether you play FIFA or not. Kane even worked on improving his speed in order to make it, that shows it is important.

I don't give a crap what anyone's FIFA or Champ Man stats are.

There's definitely a theme in this thread where anyone not towing the company line and having criticism is talked down to, usually referring to YouTube, FIFA or Champ Man. If only scouts or qualified coaches could post opinions here it would be pretty quiet.

Chill people.

Let's get big boy signed first, for those likes Daka or Eduoard (i do too!), got a strange feeling either one of them may join us further down the road.

So is heading, yet the best header of the ball is never top of list for a striker.
Tackling is a massively important aspect of a full back yet once again, it’s pace that people seem to pick wish list based on.
Crossing is a nice attribute for a wide player or ability to cut inside and accurately hit shots, once again pace will get picked.

Of course it’s important, I get it it’s exciting but I really don’t think there’s more “electric” elite players than ones with decent running ability etc. I just never would pick a player over another because they’re quicker. Fifa thing was just a guess, no ones opinion is right or wrong.

I’m summer 2004 Chelsea signed Jose’s first choice striker, a big, powerful, athletic 24 year old Ivorian who had done the square root of fuck all most of his career, then out of nowhere scored at a rate of 1 in 2 in Ligue Un for two consecutive seasons, first for unfancied Guingamp, then for the far bigger Marseille. Chelsea fans had barely heard of him and knew little what to expect.

In summer 2020, Spurs are looking to sign Jose’s first choice striker, a big, powerful, athletic 25 year old Brazilian who had done the square root of fuck all most of his career, then out of nowhere scored at a rate of 1 in 2 in Primeira Liga for two consecutive seasons, first for unfancied Rio Ave, then for the far bigger Benfica. Spurs fans had barely heard of him and knew little what to expect, but somehow were able to roundly write him off as he’d not hit the heights of the SPL or Austrian Bundesliga.

You make it sound like Drogba was equally unknown as Vinicius and that is not true. He was highly rated and many clubs around europe tried to sign him. He was the third most expensive signing ever by a PL club when he arrived.

Should be pretty handy when we launch the ball route 1 from the back!

I don’t make it sound like anything. I’m merely putting forward facts about both players. People can infer whatever they like from my post, but everything in there is true.

Maybe we’re trying to recreate that Ginger Pele vibe?

I’ll just leave that thought with you all :D.
