And if Ndicka doesn't develop? Then we're stuck with another guy on a long contract and big wages that we can't shift.
Hmmmm that's doubtful. He's shown the potential in the German league. Anyway there's a scouting dept that should look into that.

I'm just not convinced we have to buy a Bastoni, Torres or Gvardiol to be successful. There are alternatives who are cheaper that could do the same job.

The completely inexperienced in this league thing has gone a little far. Bentancur and Deki were completely inexperienced and slotted in perfectly and almost instantly. In fact how many players in recent years have we actually brought in with Premier League experience that have done well? Hojbjerg?

Especially with Conte, I think it’s more that you just need to be able to fit his system and know what he expects of you more than experience in the league.
I agree with the other players but they came into the team having played a lot more games at precious clubs CL.played something like 7x last season

Kevin Wimmer showed potential in the German league. Maybe the scouting dept looked into it and decided that Ndicka wasn't a good fit for us.

There are always cheaper alternatives that aren't finished products. If we want to win trophies and have money to spend, then why would we go for the cheaper alternative when we can get the ready-made fit?

This defence of the club decision silmutaneously criticises the clubs decision as well…impressive

I like that our LCB can now commit a tactical yellow card foul, or just be front foot aggressive, knowing if they are yellow carded they are not walking a tightrope and can be subbed off for a decent replacement.

Wimmer was excellent for us.

That's not the same... they bid in August of 2017 I think.... could be wrong on the year.... Southampton refused to do business with them. They then reached agreement midway through December of that year with Southampton. I remember it clearly... I commented in the Liverpool thread at the time..... that their decisiveness smelt of hunger for success.

What we have here is a situation where a few posters have this in their heads that Bastoni or Gvardiol are gettable...... they not ( we have the funds and either would have been signed by now) Many have convinced themselves that Bastoni wants to come to us.... that Inter are piss broke.... That Bastoni dreams of playing for Conte AGAIN.. .. come on... the same Conte who at his last 2 clubs hasn't lasted more than 3 years.
Well the club are waiting for them or equivalent quality for that position so they seem to think they’re gettable ??‍♂️ maybe you should go and give the club the heads up

Unless the alternative was an out of position Sanchez. We're just more shaky with him playing, despite the good few games he had last season.
Sanchez is fine at RCB, he's had many good games there, was vital to our CL qualification. But he's not good enough at LCB.
Davies with Lenglet next in line, for Soton anyway.

I did hope anyone wouldnt pick up on that. Ok two months time - I hope Davies isnt out for that long.
Is Davies in line for a new contract? Next year will be what, year 9 at the club? So season after that he’ll be up for a testimonial. Levy has to decide if he has the clout for it. Dawson was shipped out before his 10th year…

Maybe we see how Lenglet does, sign him to replace Davies and the bring in a heavyweight LCB.

It’s a consideration!

Wimmer was superb for us when he stepped in for Super Jan. fair play to him. Sanchez was dam good when he joined and played CB, all be it between Toby and Jan. With the news that Japhet may be off to Milan, I think that keeping Rodon (who can actually play all three parts of the CB line) is on the cards. At least until we sign another CB. So Lenglet is the LCB/cover. Sanchez CB/RCB, and Rodon covers all three when needed. Maybe.

Didn't Liverpool also get in trouble for tapping up VVD and that's why the whole thing got delayed?
I seem to remember there being some shady shenanigans going on and Liverpool getting a bit of flak for it.

I don't have a problem with the ready made/ complete player.... just don't believe we should put all our hopes in getting those 2 Lcb in particular.

That's really not necessary mate. I'm all for healthy discussion where we can differ in our views but churlish comments..... just stifle any further point in engaging you.

Yes that was it... it's why they refused to talk to them that Summer window.

Yeah, I mean in the post I’m replying to there you’re talking down to posters saying they’re convincing themselves or that they’ve got it in their heads that Bastoni, Gvardiol etc. would come. When the actual club are literally waiting to try and sign one of them or an equivalent when it’s more realistic to do so. So I think that’s not necessary.

No I wasn't talking anyone down. There's a common belief that we have a chance at signing those 2 players. I happen to not share that belief and express it. I'm of the view we shoukd move on to target 3 or 4 and continue on with the squad building. in any event we have a Lcb who just signed on loan. I'd give him the opportunity to see how he performs in the coming months.

Rather than wait for some mythical opportunity of Bastoni or Gvardiol.
