Was a rumour, but I do still think there must be more than a coincidence that he came off with an "injury" despite not visibly having one (I know that definitely doesn't mean there wasn't one). And then has only been seen once since then, when he was wheeled out to do the post match with Sky. Hard for me not to think that something happened at half time.
Yes this is how I read it . Funny sequence of events. Would the club outright lie to preserve Hugo's feelings ? Odd.

I cannot fathom him throwing some kind of mental strop at half time, the kind of meltdown that sees you never play for the club again...and yet be the one that comes out to do the player interview after the game to explain the performance.

The far more simple and realistic explanation is that he just got the thigh injury that Stellini, Mason, and Lloris himself said that he got. A lot of people looking for something that isn't there for whatever odd reason.

He has been in training pictures/videos from this summer.

I’m not so sure he’s looked like a man who is truly pissed off and unhappy with the club for a few seasons and especially last season, I could definitely see him having just lost the plot at half time and everyone saying ok you’ve been an incredible servant but this isn’t working out for either party now.

Take how he was in the AON documentary with Sonny that time, Hugo is most certainly not just Mr nice guy all the time and ever since Poch left frankly he’s looked miserable for a large part of the time which as our captain I do think will have been bringing the whole group down.

Sets completely the wrong tone if he’s registered to the squad now.

- Expressed a desire to leave
- Was given permission to leave the tour to finalise a move
- Signed a new GK and kept Forster, with a view to Hugo leaving
- Turned down moves elsewhere and is presumably happy to collect a wage for doing fuck all for a year

Absolutely no way should he be registered.

We already have 4 other goalkeepers.

Registering him basically says “it’s okay to strop off at half time in a big game as the club captain, say you want to leave, miss pre season, and then make the squad regardless”.

Not for me, thanks.

And I doubt that’s what Ange wants or needs in his squad either.

Hugo’s status in club history means nothing to Ange, and nor should it.
He won't be registered, Ange has already said we won't register 3 non HG goalkeepers.

I also don't buy that he's taking the piss out of the club, he's probably the most professional player excluding Kane that we have in regards to the old guards.

I think he most likely wants to be number 1 wherever he goes bar Saudi.

Probably happy to take a pay cut aslong as he's playing. Issue is for him, is that so many teams now are so insistent on having a goalie that can play, which is his biggest weakness.

Endlessly confused by HG requirements me. You're saying Forster is not HG...then I hear Welshman Johnson is HG...Dier, erstwhile England captain, is not English..(n)

Nationality doesn't determine if you are home grown.

A homegrown player is defined as someone 'who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any FA-affiliated club for at least three years before their 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)'

So as long as someone meets that criteria for an English club, they are homegrown for us.

I wouldn't give up 5.2 million if I was about to retire.
Levy gave Hugo the contract so he's entitled to see it out.
I couldn't care less it's not my money.
Good luck in future endeavours Hugo and thanks for some great memories.

Sky had the 22-23 season highlights show on the other day and obviously I haven't gone back and watched much of last season because it's so shite, but the amount of shots Hugo either threw in or went through him was truly staggering. That a manager of Conte's stature just thought it was ok to keep him in because he's "experienced" is staggering.

Agreed. Any outfield player that made that amount of mistakes would have been crucified by the fans.

Forster, Austin and Whiteman are all homegrown.

in the PL squad, shouldn't play a minute though, we must look to the future and stick with Vicario

With all due respect Hugo downed his tools at HT up in Newcastle, declared he's finished playing for our club and wants to leave. Opts to not partake in the Pre season tour in Asia in order to secure his exit out of the club.

Is now named in the Squad blocking Lyons Forster registration.

1, Not a great look for the youth pathways into the 1st team

2, Not healthy for the new leadership group.

I don't agree with his inclusion.

There is absolutely no way baring injuries to Forster and Vicario that Lloris gets near the first team. Vicario is our first choice for the next decade probably.

I think that's out of the question when it comes to the starting position, Vicario will definitely play.

The question remaining is whether Forster or Hugo will be on the bench. I definitely think that Forster should get that bench spot.

There has been some discussion on here that players such as Dier and Lloris are well within their rights to see out a contract that has been given to them, which I agree with. The other side of that coin though, is that we as a club are well within our right to leave them out of the squad to the detriment of their careers after making such a decision.

When players are thinking about doing the same next summer, we can then point to Hugo and Dier with hopefully zero game time as cautionary tales for them to consider.

There really is nothing in this.

Vicario is the starter, Forster is the back-up. But, Hugo is on the books. Given that, it makes sense to register him in case of an emergency.

I don't think it's anything more than that. And, I still think he leaves in January.

I knew he would be along with Dier. We had space in the squad after Sanchez and Ndombele went so why not name them? They are here and we pay their wages. There is no reason not to register until January. We can then look to offload them in Jan to free the space we would need. We never have to play them.

The crazy thing is that we have 3 homegrown keepers registered. That shows how poor our homegrown numbers are that we use keepers to total it up. So now we have registered 5 keepers (Vicario, Forster, Lloris, Austin, Whiteman) in a non European season.
