played 90 mins in a 2-1 loss at wolfsburg. general consensus again seems to be that he did little to affect the game positively.

whoscored stats:

61% pass accuracy

Seems like the later — although I'm sure this isn't an isolated incident for him, unfortunately. He didn't have the best of games yesterday for Hoffenheim so it might have been sent to him in response of his performance.

The amount of racial and mental abuse that players get through social media is shocking and can be seen publicly. However I'm sure that the private messages they receive, like the one above, are even more disgusting.

I don't necessarily advocate the notion that you should need ID to register on social media but this kind of shit presents a compelling argument. It potentially removes the majority of disgusting behaviour straight away as people won't want that kind of speech linked to them properly.

I'm sure the social media companies themselves could do more as well.

sessegnon is a total conundrum to me.

is he a lb? a lwb? a left winger? i see the arguments for and against with each of those but the concerning thing for me is that i can list more reasons in the "against" category than i can in the "for". when i think of sessegnon and his standout traits/attributes the ones that come to mind are:

- intelligence in his movement (anticipation, reading of situations etc)
- composure in and around the box
- finishing

i just want to post his goal for england's u21s from the last international break:

yes the quality of opposition needs to be taken into account but the movement and naturalness of the finish are top drawer, left backs just do not score that goal. when you have a player who can do that, why would you waste him at left back? especially when he needs serious work in that position to even become competent. compare him to our best lb in recent years(rose) and other than delivery in the final 3rd i'm struggling to see any area of the left back role that sessegnon can match or better danny in.

so you say ok, he needs to play left wing then but i have as many if not more problems with him there than i do at left back. simply put i just don't think he has much about him with the ball at his feet. he doesn't manipulate the ball well, can't beat a player when squared up 1v1, doesn't provide much in terms up link up/quick passing in open play, he's generally just a bit of a dead end when he gets the ball. if he can shift the ball out of his feet he might put in a decent delivery but i'm really scraping the barrel to find something now.

well if he can't play at lb or lw then what the hell can we do with him? i go back to the attributes i've listed and i'm surprised that no one has ever thought to try him up front. he's never going to be in the kane mould as far as forwards go but as a more off-the-shoulder type i think he could find his place, or at least as a very advanced roaming wide-forward, one who generally stays out of the game but does his damage off the ball. you look at his goals for fulham and the vast majority were of the right place-right time variety but those goals aren't a fluke, not at that consistency.

anyway, we'll see how he does at hoffenheim. it doesn't sound like his performances have been especially encouraging so far but at least he's playing, hopefully he can start to impose himself more.

He definitely has a real ability to find space intelligently in and around the box, no doubt, but I just can't see the aggression and hunger for goals needed to be a striker. He would be a smallish striker like Defoe but doesn't have his zip or dynamism. There's nothing explosive about Sess. I prefer him as a winger but wish he had more pace.

Aggression and hunger are the correct words for me, to me he can’t play LB as he’s far too timid in the tackle and heading. He clearly has loads of ability but I’m not convinced he’s tough enough. I guess we’ll see in a couple of seasons.

He’s an attacker. They need to give up on this left back nonsense and let him play games there to see if he has the quality rather than dithering and messing him about at left back. It will only harm his career.

Very poor defending when compared with our back 4 on Saturday. He’s never a defender I’d like to see him play further forward

He's such a strange one dear Sess. He has intelligent movement, nice finishing, but a bit like Dele not really a position. Is he really a AM? I'm still unsure, he's not really a LB, possibly a LWB? I don't really know. The issue he will have with Jose is his timid nature, the polar opposite to what Jose likes. It's a tough thing for someone to suddenly just develop, but if he could become a little more powerful, quicker and aggressive, he might become a proper player with these attributes coupled with his intelligence and timing.

I'm still unsure what the future holds for him as a player, but really hope he can make the grade with us. He's getting games now so fingers crossed.
