Mauricio Pochettino says he had to give Harry Kane some tough love when he arrived at Spurs but credits the striker for saving his career. The England international has scored 261 goals in 408 matches for Tottenham, while he is currently on 52 goals in 79 caps for the Three Lions.

Don't think this reflects particularly well on Poch tbh.

Basically implies that he thought Kane wasn't good enough...then 2 weeks later he was suddenly amazing thanks to some pointers. I don't buy that.

In reality, Poch was simply wrong to play Soldado and Adebayor ahead of him and brought Kane in through desperation (and because Soldado was clearly rubbish).

Can see why Poch picked the senior players ahead of a youngsters like Kane - most managers would do the same at a new club - but this reeks of revisionist history to me. I'm sure Kane was good enough to be a starter from the beginning of that season as he was solid under Sherwood the season before and had proven himself to be better than Soldado already.

I'm not sure I agree that this reflects THAT badly on Poch. If anything I think it reflect VERY well on Kane's maturity to take on board feedback and as he has (now) repeatedly shown to continually prove his doubters wrong and overcome the obstacles in front of him.

We've seen it so many times, just when it appears he's at a limit he manages to find a way to adapt and make another step up.

Spurs are extremely blessed to have had a player who is seemingly one of the most professional and dedicated team player and has become the most prolific striker in the English leagues in modern times.

Sometimes I wonder if Kane is up there with Messi and Cristiano of old and is only hamstrung by staying with Spurs. We all know he would score 30 league goals a season every season if he was at a club like City and if he'd done that for the last 10 years instead of playing for spurs he'd be considered as their equal

You could also argue that he's hamstrung (compared to Messi, Ronaldo, Lewandowski, Benzema etc.) by playing in the toughest league in the world. If he played in any other league, I would expect him to get more goals and assists.

Numbers wise Kane would improve but he wouldnt elbow in on the Messi vs Ronaldo goat debate.

He'd be talked about in the Lewandoski/Benzema conversations with more weight maybe, but the other two being able to attack and dribble at speed in their prime in addition to everything else sets them apart from any chasing pack.

I dont think this article reflects badly on poch at all....he's talking about one game where Harry thought he deserved more playing time on the back of a game where he played poorly, and showed him that he'd not done well previously, and reviewed it with him.

At that stage in his (Harry's) career i dont see anything wrong with that....the reaction of player is then what sets Harry apart as he obviously was able to kick on and hit an insane level.

Poch doesnt take any credit for putting him in against villa rather just points at the freekick and says how important that was for both him (poor results til then and thinks he was on the brink himself) and Harry, doesnt read badly to me at all.

Messi is on another planet,

Kane is massively under rated, the online hate he gets is unreal, I don’t think he has had ever had the X factors of ronaldo, messi, or bale.

He needs to turn up in big games, if he gets us a World Cup with 3 big performances it will shut up the critics!,

Unfortunately that did not happen, today, however Harry is bigger and better than the critics so he will still shut them up.
