No way. Play to the whistle. That was the rule before VAR came in and it still is.
Who cares. We want Newcastle to win! Fk 'em lol.Nah man come on when you as a player see the linesman raise up the flag you instantly stop playing unconsciously, it’s like a reflex

Completely agree with this (and I loved Shelvy celebrating by tapping his head). No way. Play to the whistle. That was the rule before VAR came in and it still is.
Schoolboy stuff for Newcastle's second. The linesman raises the flag and all of the Sheffield United players just stop. Shelvey jogs through for an easy goal.

Was the whistle blown eventually tonight? Because before VAR with the flag raised it the goal wouldn't be checked and therefore it's safe to stop playing when the ref will almost never overrule the linesman for an offside position.
The the VAR check it means you have to play on regardless of whether the ref stops the game.
Arsenal look a very average side
There are two mistakes made for that goal, none of them by the ref or VAR.
1) On such close offside decisions the assistant is supposed to keep flag down, allow play to continue, then VAR reviews for offside. It’s not even a close call, the striker is clearly on when the initial ball is played.
2) Play to the whistle. They’ve had 4 months now to get used to VAR. In all likelihood the defenders wouldn’t have caught Shelvey, but the keeper has screwed up by making it easy for him.
Yeap farcicalWow wtf I’ve just witnessed the worst refereeing decision ever! The Sheffield United players and keeper stoped playing because the linesman said it was offside! Awful awful awful decision to grant the goal
Can’t believe what I’ve just seen
Just beautifulOh my days they're booing already.
Surely the rule should be the same that the lino doesn’t flag marginal offsides to avoid exactly this. It’s how it’s being done everywhere else, but for some reason Mike Riley is picking And choosing the rules to implement.
And this is the result.
Oh my days they're booing already.
Pretty sure that’s the rule that’s supposed to also be used in PL.
The fact that the ref didn’t whistle suggests that’s still the case.
