Respect for Aurier getting through the game, yes he did give the ball away for their goal but on the whole he was not bad at all.

As for the complaining relating to how we won/played. I think it is far more important for us to be consistently winning, morale is teetering on the brink. Players are not feeling particularly good about how the season has gone, not playing well and there appears to be some tension between certain players.

On that basis I want us to be winning however we can for the rest of the season. Get through what has been a tough season, refresh the squad with fresh blood and then worry more about "how" we play. To me its much more about building back to that winning mentality at the moment.

Most concerning thing from the game (for me) was Harry ignoring Son to shift it back on to his right foot and then losing it. Either Harry and Son have a bit of a personal issue or Harry just wanted a goal, hopefully it is the latter.

Good 3 pts, yes we need to improve massively next season.....but yesterday no one can fault or question our work rate or desire.....that was brilliant.

This thread should be about rating players and not Jose. He's a master at this, getting you to focus on him rather than the team.

I don't love the style of play but let's leave that for the Mourinho thread.

Also, this was a game against a brittle but attacking Newcastle side. It doesn't prove jose is a genius or a drain so can we stop the one-upmanship?

I'm in the no-jose camp but thought there were some excellent passages of play. The midfield were prepared to hold on to the ball, Winks was great especially but I really liked the collective responsibility they showed which meant Lucas could push on or Harry and Son could drop. Aurier and Davies were much more balanced this week so we didn't look so fragile.

If I had one criticism it would be for Davies. Shelvey and Saint Maximin had him on toast, either passing through him or running at him. I really feel we need more from LB and I'm not sure he has the skill-set to do it.

Impressed with Moura in this game and the Arsenal game, before these two games I thought he’d become a liability.

Kane still not at his best but two goals and being a bit off his game is gold. Liked Winks and Le Celso combo, they hardly wasted any ball and recycled possession well.

Aurier kudos for fronting, if he could just eliminate the brain fart he’d be fine but its always just around the corner. Having said that even with the mistake that led to their goal Aurier was better than Davies. Davies put in another shocker and his passing accuracy is just not acceptable.

Sanchez and Toby looked solid, wasn’t Tobys best day with the long ball but did his defensive duties well.

I'm in the no-jose camp

There shouldn’t even be a no Jose camp when he came in after he came in to a side who’d amassed a grand total of 14 points from 12 games and we are still within that first season.

If we’re languishing come 12 games into next season and not making any tangible process, then fine, have your anti Mourinho club. But right now to not support the manager in place is to not support the club.

I think Kane really wanted that 200th goal, especially as he was on a 3 game drought which for him is quite a lot (insane that it seems like that really!).

I also think both Son and Kane have been guilty of it in recent games so it probably lingers in the mind. However hopefully it'll click for both soon that if the other one scores it should open up more opportunities for them down the line with the way we are looking to play. When we are ahead we should draw the opponent out and create more chances.

The amount of breakaways we had in the last 10 mins of the NLD is a perfect example of that.

Well I enjoyed the match . I like our close together quick passing phases , one led to a goal too . Well done the team .

Only downer I'd put on the generally positive vibe is that neither Arse or the Geordies are what I'd call 'In your face' teams . The ones that make our players unable to settle or enjoy their game . No space to play . We hate those ,we sometimes hide from the ball .

It'd be good to see a nice victory over an intense space-eating oppo .

Totally agree, especially on the transitions but also the Winks praise today. Felt second half especially he started to find some nice forward passes.

The transitions thing is very interesting for me. Like you say there were a few times in each game of late we could have clear chances only for the attacker to make a poor decisions. If this can be improved through coaching or personnel (plenty of merit in the Willian link in this sense) I can see us scoring a lot of goals that way. With a bit more understanding I think Kane and Son could be quite deadly as a pair if we opt to go that way.

Aurier was a hero for just being out there today but I do feel upgrading him and Sissoko (who also gave his all today) will improve us even further.

Kane MOTM for me for popping up with the two goals when we needed him. Special mentions to Aurier and Winks as mentioned above.
Just a quick mention on our transition, our 3rd goal was exactly that. Win the ball in our area, ball out to Kane with Lamela making the run beyond him. Good diagonal ball into the run and Kane following up to finish when Lamela got his shot off. It's quick, incisive and, ultimately, devastating.

I'm mystified that this isn't seen as exciting attacking play. It's just different to what a lot of others are serving up.

For work rate Son and Moura, with Sissoko also playing well. Lo Celso looks shattered. Kane scores two good goals but did little else... anyone else sense tension between him and Sonny?

Their goal was a very decent strike, but if you pass to an unmarked opponent in your own box you kinda deserve it when they score. Very similar goal to Sunday in that respect.

But, a decent away win against a team who don’t lose many at home (first home loss in 7 months?). Also, was amazed Jose had never won up there before. Another nice hoodoo to break!

I agree that things seem a bit off between Kane and Son. Kane seems very reluctant to pass Son the ball.

You responded, so contrary to what you wrote you do have time! And for the record no one was moaning, we were just stating the facts as it were. Do yo want us to lie and say we were awesome when we weren't? Like you I am just as happy that we got the three points despite the performance. That does not mean I cannot talk about how poor it was. Channel your self righteousness some where else.

Just want to point out that your opinions are not facts.Just opinions. The score being 3-1 and kane scoring 2 goals are factual.

Also for me, my opinion here. I thought we played a pretty well balanced away game, the defence looked decent again only letting in a very good goal and Mourinho when he noticed the 433 was not working as smoothly changed it up slightly to get my attacking play and that helped create the goals.

I agree and I stand corrected

Having just re-watched the whole 90 minutes of the game without the usual emotions and anxiety, I will concede that our performance both as a team and individually was much better than I gave them credit for. This is what happens when you start a ratings thread with the adrenaline and emotions running high!!

All about grinding out positive results at this stage to enable euro football. Spurs change with management, then Covid. For me, it’s getting the job done; regroup with a few additions and kick on for the next season. We’ve decent returns since resuming.
