Have they all had a similar amount of players out at the same time? All from their spine?

United haven't been playing with 4 full backs in defence. Neither have Newcastle, nor have Arsenal.

United have spent about 200 million trying to sort their defence and up to recently had an 85m CB on the bench.

Of course injuries are part of football but the fact we've suffered the amount we have to 5 key players and 4 guaranteed starters is mad.
I'd say the only team comparable to ourselves regarding injuries/suspensions is Newcastle who have been threadbare in certain area's just like we have.

Didn't see the game live but watched the recording last night. I knew the result before watching and it made the commentary/punditry highly entertaining. A load of absolute bollocks from Neville who bends with the breeze depending on what's going on. One minute we're naive and Ange is stupid, the next we never give up. One minute we have to drop deep and try not to ship 6 goals and the next City have been given a lesson on complacency. No wonder he was so shit as a manager.

There's a difference between tweaking things and changing the entire set up and style of the team.
Pep, Klippety and SAF all tweaked things, as does Ange but their way of playing the game never changes/changed
They did tweak things, just not after less than half a season. We are in the infancy of this project.

Managed to watch the match this morning before work. Obviously I went in knowing the final score and roughly how the game played out so I didn't share the anxiety of most of you yesterday, but I thought we were brilliant. There was always going to be defensive lapses, we're playing a team who regularly smashes teams at the Etihad with 1 senior CB in the entire squad (if you even consider Davies a CB). I really thought that in the second half we limited them when it came to clear chances, the fact that we had the same amount of shots on target as they did says it all.

Said it after the Villa game and I'll say it again, as soon as we get a few back from injury/suspension and (hopefully) strengthen in defence and midfield in January we'll be an absolute force.

Citeh should not have been relying on what may or may not have happened if Grealish was allowed to continue. The facts remain they were miles better than us in the 1st half and failed miserably to take advantage. As for Halaand he had an open goal and missed maybe he should concentrate on that rather than lambast the ref for what was clearly a human error, Well done to us for getting the draw some say it was snatched I don't agree I think we fully deserved it for keeping going.
Totally, I even wanna be like Liverpool fans in saying, they need us to score an own goal for them, to level our advantage. Like, duh.

They just like to focus on that one incident as if that was the single decisive factor. Ridiculous.

City completely lost their way in the second half. Whether that was over confidence or reaction to their mid week CL game I don't know. Having Hojbjerg come on certainly helped us though to tighten up the midfield and help or defenders.

That was truly significant with Doku going off, I thought. The energy was gone, they played like they couldn't wait for the game to end soon enough and be done with 2-1.

In all honesty, I'll be worried if they could sustain the title push this season to wreck the scum party. So, I think we might have to do it ourselves 😁

Concerning. I just don't see us being there yet.

A clip from Twitter. The Johnson cross looked like it was whipped in fast on TV, but this seems a lot slower.
Also, did Ricky get carded for kicking the ball into the stand? Looks like the ref is reaching for a card.
Look for the fan being escorted out of the stadium at the end.

This is a Porro clip, but look at that football at 0.51.

That was the exact point carragher and neville were saying we were naive and shouldn't be playing through city as they are too powerful and we should have periods of the game playing it long to protect the defence.

At least carragher admitted it was lovely football at the end of that passage. Could have scored if gil did better there too

Just seen a post from Henry Winter about the game which says “A brilliant game overshadowed by officiating mistakes”. I can think of one mistake - the decision to stop the advantage when Grealish was out through - but beyond that the ref was fantastic. To say the game was overshadowed is bullshit, and scrutinising one error (when to me it’s pretty obvious and understandable what happened*) is the reason why we’ve ended up with the absolute farce that is VAR. if the likes of Henry Winter chose to focus on the tactics and action which allowed us to claw our way back into the game rather than one error of judgement in an otherwise strong ref performance, the game would be in a much better state.

*Probably been said by others but from the ref’s view I don’t think he spots Davies as clearly the last defender until it’s too late, and mistakenly thinks Grealish is offside, thus ending the advantage. It’s an error but if people bitch and moan about it all week then next time the ref won’t play any advantage at all as that’s safer. Micah Richards saying ‘he’s clearly onside’ is all well and good when looking at a still of side on angle from high up, but the ref didn’t have that luxury.
Referees don’t give offside . The ball was 30 yds ahead of him . Only he will know why he blew.
He us our lucky mascot. Ref for the Liverpool game although he wasn’t involved in the offside decision.

Our meagre defenders froze for a nanosecond on hearing the whistle. That's enough to discount the "advantage"

That's my explanation and I am sticking to it

Oh what a beautiful morning !

My theory is that when the original foul happened he had the whistle in his mouth and maybe half blew it but then changed his mind. He couldn't let it run though in case any of our players had heard it and stopped as a result. It's the only thing that really makes sense to me.

I honestly think the whole offside thing has been massively blown out of proportion, not helped by the pundits reaction to it. The ref is in constant comms with the assistant referee who I suspect said, looks offside and had Grealish some how managed to dribble the remaining 30 odd yards without getting tackled/fouled and scored, the assistant would have flagged and it would have gone to VAR, so the ref thought it wasn't going to be an advantage and blew his whistle. Obviously looking at the replays it was incredibly tight and I'm not 100% sure it was on or off, but the ref has to make a split second decision. He probably wishes it had played out, but I felt quite sorry for him

They are a brilliant team but yeah they tend to that alot in matches were they just take the foot of the gas.

Still fully expect them to take off come January, especially once de Bruyne returns.

The amount of coverage the last minute referee cock up will inevitably lead to another 6 months of not getting clear decisions.
