I'd hate to see him go and really don't think he will. The interest is probably genuine from Mackay, after the Caulker performed for Swansea in their first season in the Prem. But, I think he has his sights set on competing for places here and with Verts injured, Kaboul yet to play any matches, he'd be foolish to leave.

He will improve and get more games. Will probably be our captain in a few years.

With a new CD possibly coming in I suppose this would depend on how fit, or otherwise, Kaboul and Vertonghen are considered to be. Personally I don't think Caulker will ever make a top CD he doesn't get stuck in enough or make his height and weight count.

How old does he have to be before you decide he isn't a top 4 central defender ? There is no part of the central defender game that he excels at IMO. He doesn't read a game well, does make his height or his weight count, he is slow to turn etc. If he hadn't come through the youth set up no one would be giving him a second thought.

Since we haven't agreed anything all it says is that avb thinks hes worth more and wants to keep him.

You may be right, he might not make it. But you have to give him a chance. He's not the finished product. Look at bale at the same age, people wanted to sell him.

Take the £9 million. There will be a far better prospect out there and we will have money spare too.
