So you do hate Bent because he's not Defoe.

No, I just think Bent is average.

Defoe is by the by. He's a decent Prem stiker but nothing to get excited about. We can do better than both.

I would swap Bent, Pav, Campbell and 10 million for Berbatov.

to use modric properly we have to play him in a midfield 5, and it helps hundredstone as well. so we need a big motherfucker up front that can hold the ball up. and not heskey cos the striker needs to be able to score.
so the 'bring keane and defoe back' brigade should shut up.
basically we need drogba. only without annoying-twatness and denise lewis hair/face.

You've made a great point about a droga type striker but we need to drop Bentley too, he is not good enough to start, Bale should play in left of midfield, Bales crossing is better and he can actually take players on which gives us an extra dimension. Bentley can't even put a decent cross in, not even from a free kick.

Zaki can't join anyone in Jan, and besides he hasn't done much for the last couple of months anyway. Bent's incredibly underrated, Pav and Fraizer are woeful though.

Bring back 4-4-2 I say.

Exactly. Its all well and good talking about the strikers we have, but no 1 striker in the world can score and create the goals that Keane and Berbatov did. We dont have a strikeforce anymore. And its a long time since we've said that. In the past its been a formality that we'll player 2 up front, because we always seemed to have 3 or 4 quality strikers. Modric is great in the whole but he isn't a support striker. He's and attacking midfielder. Get a dominant defensive midfielder to play alongside him and get a striker and left winger, and then we'll go back to scoring more than 1 goal a game again. Either that or get a wide attacking striker on the left and a top quality out and out striker, and play the 4-3-3 formation. We clearly lack the attacking quality in a 4-5-1.

Santa Cruz up front and Arshavin on the left would be perfect imo.

No. We can't go back to 4-4-2. We need to build the team around Modric as we are doing. Call it what you want... 4-4-1-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-5-1, whatever. One striker with Modric playing in a free role behind him. What we really need is backup for Modric, and preferably someone who will play on the left instead of Bentley when Modric is able to play. What we need is Arshavin.

See the problem is we just dont have the quality to play one up front.

To play one up front effectively you need to hold the lions share of the possession and really bombard teams to create enough chances. We dont have a good enough team to do that against PL opposition.

Would be interesting to see the following:

----------Bent----Pav----------

-------------Modric----------
Jenas---------------------Lennon
-------------Zokora---------------

Its not like we have anybody effective to play on the left wing anyway.

That's exactly what we shouldn't be doing. Then if Modric is injured, or, most likely with Spurs, is sold, then we're buggered a la Carrick.

But we are building the team around him... and I'm saying our priority should be to have someone who can play in his position when he's unable to play. Arshavin would play on the left wing when Modric is fit and then play in Modric's position when Modric can't play.

I wouldn't be surprised if Campbell's going back to Utd in January.

What type of striker is Roque Santa Cruz is he in the mould of Bent or Pav or is he a Heskey type striker with a better scoring ratio.

I would like to see RSC and Doyle bought with a DM and reverting to a 4-4-2 formation. modric will be better suited the attacking midfield role. Bentley should be sold back to Blackburn for 10 million pounds.

So even though you don't know what type of striker he is, you think we should just buy him anyway...

No, the reason i ask is based on the following, he has scored 18 odd PL goals last season, has stated his desire to leave blackburn and could be available.

The reason i ask what type of striker he is, b'cause he would need to be able to form a partnership with Pav or Bent in the way that Berba and Keane were able to play together.

I do keep forgetting about him, but from what I've seen of him, he doesn't look ready yet, so I wouldn't want to play him too much yet.

I'm not so sure. He has been out for a while and, prior to that, was playing in a Ramos side where EVERY player was playing shite. Modric was being slated by many on here during the Ramos era but has since, I hope, silenced his critics and is still improving. Under 'Arry and given a few starts then I think Gio could become a key player very quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Campbell's going back to Utd in January.

I would imagine that Campbell has one or two games left in a Spurs shirt. Come the end of the transfer window I would think, and hope, that he will not play another match for us. However, i doubt he will return to Manure in Jan and will, instead, keep the bench warm until the summer.

Hang on a minute, a few weeks ago when all our strikers were fit and scoring everybody was saying we don't need to buy a striker in January.

Talk about fickle.
