Whilst we are talking about Newcastle United I'd suggest a hard as nails central middfielder like Nicky Butt to play alongside Modric in a 4 man midfield

All three strikers got a run out today and the sum of their efforts was nothing.

Toothless.

We were woeful in attack today and probably need 2 strikers. The problem is that most will be cup tied. I don't think that Defoe played against Chelski in the Carling Cup so could be free for that one, but he's ineligable for the UEFA. That could be the reason why we are after Bellemy as he can play in Europe. I've tried very hard to like Bent and give him a fair chance, but what annoys me most about him is the effort that he fails to put in when things aren't working form him. If he doesn't score a goal for us what else does he bring? Pav at least had 2 shots on target today after coming off the bench. Campbell tried hard, but he's too inexperienced at the moment. We need a striker to hold the ball up and allow the midfielders or his strike partner to help him out. We were probably spoilt with Berbatov and even Kanoute and now we can see how much they are missed!

I don't really cre if players are cup tied

the lge is our priority

if we get in four new players that will free someo f our players for cup games

nice if they can play cups too

Good point. We need someone who can come in and hit the ground running though as we can't afford to have to wait for a month whilst they find a rhythum. That's why if we can find away to get Defoe it could be perfect as he knows the club and most of the players that we have. We need a striker who can make their own chnaces and that is what i think the 3 we currently have lack.

Yeah I totally agree Benspur..... Bent just isn't cut out for it, he's a good championship striker at best, he doesn't suit playing the Tottenham way, his game is all about playing off the defender shoulder & waiting for the long ball over the top. Pav's just a lazy bastard & Fraizer Campbell ain't much cop either! We need goals desperately and we need an established premiership striker i.e. defoe etc not some striker playing on the continent who'll need time to settle in.

How have we ended up with this strikeforce? Well, we sold Keane, Berbatov and Defoe, kept Bent, and brought in Pavlyuchenko and some kid from Man U's youth team. The current strike force is like a Beatles reunion consisting of Ringo Starr, someone from Herman's Hermits and someone from S-Club Juniors.

:stupid:

What can you expect when you ship out £65 million worth of strikers in the past 12 months. At least Bent has done very well since he got his chance. We'll be alright in the league.. I just hope some one scores the goals needed to win a cup or two. Thank the gods we have Gomes instead of poor Robbo.. that world cup and croatia really messed him up bad.

in my opinion, darren bent should be our main man, i dont think any of them are helped by the constant chopping and changing, so harry should just stick with him and show a bit of confidence. I dont think that we have seen anything near to his best form, but if anything i think that he will be the one most suited to 4-5-1 if modric is kept in there. because i think he spent most of his 2 seasons at charlton playing as a lone striker, and with a lower quality midfield behind him than we have he still managed 15 goals each season. there arent many better than him in the league to stick on the last man and chase through balls, and in the box looking for loose balls hes not bad either.

hes got all the attributes to be a very good frontman for us, pace, very clinical when finishing and the ability to score when it doesnt look like its going to happen. hopefully he returns to his charlton form soon.

darren bent as our main man spells trouble. He is useless at everything except scoring a few goals. And that is not good enough for the premiership. He hasnt even scored in his last 7 league games either which means we may as well be playing with 10 men.

The fact that he scores a few goals covers up the fact that his all round play is horrible.

Pav is still settling but he doesnt look too crash hot either. But as you saw today in 70 mins darrent bent didnt have a single shot, but pav managed 2 in his first 3mins of being on. What does that say for bent?

Campbell has showed some class at times (well twice i think) but overall he is completely ineffective as well. Id be happy to see him go back to man u next week if we got 2 new strikers in.

It seems to be a confidence thing all the time with Bent. He was doing well in the first part of the season and scoring goals. Watching him yesterday he looked like he did last season when 90% of the time he was on the bench.

I cant make up my mind about him i really cant. On one hand he looks like he would struggle to get a game for Barnet but on the other, when he is fscoring he looks good.

I cant believe someone can score so many goals for Charlton and then not do the same for us. For those on here who say its 'not our forwards its the players around them' then how can he bag so many goals in a team who were horse shit then not for us??

The thing with bent he scores a few gets carried away and starts talking to the media about how harry made him a better player and his great insight into the previous regime and then dries up again (much like his preseason hype).. he should just concentrate on his game and aim to score the 30 he set himself!

Everton are winning games atm and they haven't got any strikers. One thing they do have is a solid midfield and are also dangerous from set pieces. We should score a lot more goals from corners and freekicks imo as King, Woody, Daws, Corluka, Pav and Bent are all good in the air, but most of the time the delivery is shocking

good point donny - bentley and bale were supposed to solve this alas both have flopped this season

another good reason to get downing in

i dont know the stats but he's got to be better at set pieces than our current brigade

Everton are fortunate enough to have Arteta providing their set pieces and you only have to look at how many goals Lescott gets to appreciate the importances of dead ball situations. It's not all about strikers, the rest of the team needs to chip in with goals and that just aint happening atm. I am actually warming to the idea if Downing, i think he would help us to become a good team and give us balance which we have lacked for a very long time.

Our strikers are average so we need the midfielders to chip in with the goals.
This isn't happening enough - i've mentioned this many times.

Modric is getting into goal scoring positions. So should Lennon and Bentley, but they lack the talent to change their game. Count on HR to change them.

If our midfield can't be counted on to chip in more goals then we need better strikers.

So when it's done and dusted, its about bringing in a new striker.

Bent is quality.

He can put them away when given the service - 12 goals in a season where our team has generally been poor.

Yes, he's not the most skillful of players but he knows where the goal is and that's what we need. I think he could benefit from a good strike partner. Linked up well with Keane and Defoe when played with them last season. Pav and Campbell are not the players to get the best out of him.

Should definitely remain part of our squad for the forseeable future.
