They get an extra day of rest than us, unfortunately. I don't think we'll put out a full strength side, especially with City at home next weekend, and it's the early kick off too (not that a few hours will make that much of a difference). Arsenal have Leicester away next weekend, who are proving tought to beat, so they may look to rest a couple of players too.

Clinton
Pritchard Dembele Townsend
Carroll Winks
Rose Fazio Wimmer Trippier
Vorm
L'Arse usually play a team of 2nd string or youngsters. We shouldn't be too different.

Amended as there's no Dembele.

Pritchard Carroll Townsend
Winks Veljkovic

This is a throw away game for me - I know - sacrilegious, but with the match congestion coming up, I would treat this as a 3rd round League Cup game - despite the opponent. If we get past them, great, but I am not losing any sleep over a League Cup result.

Vorm
Tripper Fazio Wimmer Rose
Winks Carroll
Townsend Eriksen (60 minutes) Clinton
Chadli

Bench: Lloris, CCV, Walker, Mason, Lamela, Onomah, Alli
What is it that you're looking for from this season then? You surely don't expect us to be challenging for fourth place?

I know my usual M.O. is to pack the midfield anyway, but against this mob it's always crucial in my opinion. You have to get hold of the centre of the park. When we are open against them we tend to get blown away. Last year with Dembele as the 'halfway house' between 4-2-3-1 and an extra central midfielder we had success. Likewise the game before that when we got a draw away, we went 4-4-1-1 and frustrated them.

Who knows what sort of team they will put out, but I wouldn't like to see something more towards the 4-2-4 end of the spectrum.

And it's early rounds of a cup. I've always said we have to rotate, no matter who you get drawn against. Lloris and Kane should be nowhere near this game. Neither should Dier. Think Alli could do with sitting it out also or he may end up playing lots of games in a row and I could forsee him hitting a wall, play it safe and protect him.

Vorm
Trippier Toby Wimmer Rose
Mason Bentaleb Carroll
Townsend Chadli Eriksen

Subs: McGee, Fazio, Davies, Veljkovic, Winks, N'Jie, Son
If Mason and Bentaleb don't make it then promote those on the bench up, and Onomah +1 comes on to the bench.

Why not challenge for 4th? Surely Chelsea and Arsenal are flawed, and even Man United have shown some weakneses.

If not now, when?

But for this game, it's the 3rd round in a League Cup - if we were to go out, it makes for a less congested schedule later.

For me the priorities would be League, Europa, FA Cup, League Cup, in that order.

Every team has flaws, for me this season is another transitional one, we have a number of new players, no back up striker, no back up DM, youngsters being introduced into the first team and other players who are not yet playing to their potential.

I also think Poch is still trying to settle his philosophy, 4th place talk is unnecessary pressure. When will challenge for top 4? Maybe not any time soon
We're punching above our weight so I don't see a problem.

I guess the difference is - I am not "expecting" 4th, and am not going to call for Poch's head if we miss out. But, a team of our caliber/stature should always be trying to finish top-4.

Liverpool are struggling badly right now, but do you think they are not shooting for top-4?

You don't attract, and keep, quality players by finishing mid-table. If we truly do not expect to challenge for the top spots in the table, we should have sold Lloris and Kane...they are not here to play in 3rd Round League Cup games.

I'd play vorm, trippier, verts, wimmer, rose, dier, mason, njie, eriksen, townsend, son.

Give son a feel of the NLD.

And i just feel dier has got to play. Dont ask me why but i just feel he is suited to the NLD.

If we play the same or the majority or the 1st 11 that played v Palace, with just 1 day rest between games, we will lose IMO.

Vorm
Trippier Wimmer Verts Rose
Carroll Winks
Townsend Eriksen Njie
Chadli
Bench - Lloris, Alderweield, Dier, Alli, Onomah, Son, Kane

Swap Mason for Winks (and Winks for Alli) and Pritchard for Onomah if fit.

I'd go all-out because it's Arsenal, but I suspect Poch (and Wenger) won't, which is the sensible option tbh...

We should play our strongest lineup and hopefully beat them and keep our winning streak going. I know Poch won't play 4-3-3, even though it would suit us much more.

Hugo
Walker Toby Vert Davies
Dier
Alli Eriksen
Lamela Son
Kane
This would solve the problem with our players operating in the same room. Now they wont run into each others space. I really don't like the 4-2-3-1 we are currently playing. Especially if we want to play with Eriksen and Lamela who both likes to cut inside.
