Lets be honest, Billings and Vince are both busted flushes at International level, difficult to argue either has "potential" when they are both already close to 30. Both got poor averages at international level and both only playing because of injuries/people in the Test bubble. Move on.

Harsh, but probably fair.

Please don't. This is the cricket thread and we don't do pissing contests.

** I'm Level 2 ECB for coaching and I played Minor Counties cricket as a kid (EDIT: "kid"...I was 19 for fuck sake) against some big names who went on to much better things than I did :cautious:

sorry if that upsets you.

i didn’t take being called a ‘troll’ for having an opinion too well, so wanted to qualify my opinion.

well done on playing minor counties ?

Doesn't upset me at all, mine was a bit tongue in cheek with the bit that followed.

You don't need to post anything of the sort for having an opinion, it's trolling 101.

On another note, makes you wonder why the selectors continue to keep both Vince and Dawson about when there are players who, based on stats at county level, have performed as well or in Hain's case, better than, the pair of them when Hain has a good five years on the pair of them. Same could be said of Liam Livingstone and one or two others.

fancy a net? ?
Retired 4 years ago mate, tried to make a comeback last season in the 3rd Xl but combination of body falling apart everytime I hit the floor and getting chirped by 15 year olds made it a very swift return. Think in 6 games I averaged 22 with a top score of 26.

Morgan on the 'oldies' in the squad ...

“I think there is the perception that they’ve almost had their chance and their time has gone, whereas we see it that going into the next World Cup, we need experienced guys making good decisions under pressure. That’s exactly what we’re after and experience lends itself to that. We’ll continue to give opportunities but it’s to those guys we feel might have an impact in selection on the next two T20 World Cups or the next 50-over World Cup.”

Yeah but Dawson never plays, T20 maybe, Vince is just a cover for the top half then - so nothing but bench warmers. Again, a shame for me but probably not a lot of others

I'd rather see the up and comers get their shot against Ireland, get them into the whole 'International' cricket thing. I'd say, for want of running down some of those currently involved, that you know what you have in them - time to see what you could have.

127% this. It annoys me that people ever made the Flintoff comparison to be honest. Stokes is so much better than Freddie ever was, certainly with the bat. Having not seen Botham in his pomp sadly, I only had to go on the stories from the old man. I bought him a signed picture of the famous "batting pads and cigar" photo from the dressing room at Headingley for his 60th and immediately became his favourite son. I think Stokes will have the better batting record, I think they already have the same amount of Test centuries and Stokes' average is slightly better, but I cant see him ever reaching the bowling heights that Sir Ian did.
Great taste sir, iconic photo! Mrs B got me one for my 40!

Hameed made 68 on his Nottinghamshire debut today. Hopefully this is the start of him getting his career back on track.

great knock by Billings (and Willey), nice to see him stand up and play another match winning innings. really taking his chance this series.

Topley looks somewhere back to where he was prior to two years of injury. Hopefully he builds on it, means they have a ready built Willey replacement.

Adil Rashid (they just been talking to him on Sky) looks like he is coming into his own. Be good to see him against better quality opposition in future up coming one dayers.

Must be nice coming in at 5 - all the world beaters we've seen down there over the years. Long may it continue - at that is until they get to play their strongest 11 again ...

;)
