A big signing announcement during the US tour would be right up Levy's street. We've been flirting with the American market for a few years now.

If not a big signing I wouldn't be too surprised to see us come back with a Mabizella (tour signing) or a Dawkins (Youngster we can leave playing over there for a while). Either way I can see some publicity stunt being pulled off.

JJetset is Bad News Barrett. You heard it here first.

He's 99.9% right most of the time so we just have to accept that barely anyone actually knows our targets (at least in the Media)

Roughly, yes.

Plus he didn't want to play out of position which has been interpreted as an attitude problem. It could be the opposite of course, a determination to make the maximum contribution he's capable of making by playing where he feels he has most to offer.

You pays your money, you choose the attitude you project onto your player.
I thought Vertonghen had an attitude problem last season, and though his public pronouncements didn't help, my view came about mainly from watching him play. He was slow, uninterested and casual to my eyes. He looked to me like someone who didn't want to be there.
But clearly other people may have seen a fast, interested and concentrating player who was thrilled to be where he was. Or he may have been carrying an injury throughout the season, which others were aware of and I wasn't.
Such is life.

He did seem to have an attitude problem. However, I would like to think that it was less the fact he couldn't be bothered and more the fact he viewed Sherwood as a clown and that tactically we were crap. Hopefully The Poch has had a little word. It would have been frustrating working with LVG and the Dutch squad before returning to training with Tim and Sir Les.

Huh?

Asides from a CB and LB - I really don't see the point of signing anyone else other than a first 11 contender. Hopefully its a case of sell the fringe and buy in an additional quality player if we one comes available. The only exception would to bring in an experienced player in the middle, be it CB or CM - particularly if Dawson leaves!

His attitude wasn't great, but at the same time, he'd spent a year with us in which we had relative success - we at least looked like we were going places and then.... Sherwood.

Taking off my Spurs glasses for a moment :watching:, and I imagine I would have been feeling pretty disillusioned. It's not an excuse for a poor attitude, but I think most players would have been feeling similarly to him. Perhaps not quite as obvious in their body language, but Jan in a team that's playing well and with an actual ethos is almost invaluable to us. We won't replace a player like him.

I think it's important to remember, that when players sign for a club, they are given an outline of what the club expects to be achieving. We failed as a club last season, miserably. It's not entirely on the players. A lot of poor decisions were made throughout the whole organisation. They players will always be the ones who we look at as the main problem. Last season, the players didn't perform well, but the environment in which they were attempting to play was a fuckjob from top to bottom.

Tim fucking Sherwood. TIM FUCKING SHERWOOD. What the fuck was that, Mr Levy. What the clean fuck were you thinking?

Verts will "double" his salary! Perhaps the boy's been feeling seriously undervalued?

Also gives you an indication of how the finances of the league are laid out.....We are miles behind the likes of CFC, United, City, Arsenal and even LFC in terms of wage expenditures but we are well ahead of teams like NUFC, Soton, Swansea and Everton.

People will ask why a player would move to Spurs from somewhere else in the PL?.....money is a pretty good starting point, we not pay what City does but we still pay pretty damn well compared to the rest of the league.

Two summers back I remember wondering whether any of our "ITK" was ever going to be right, such was the failure rate.

This is not aimed at anyone in particular, and I'm not questioning anyone's good faith here because I'm sure it's all honest stuff shared in the right spirit, but as a generality I think the truth is that even DL doesn't yet know who we will actually be signing, and often doesn't until he's actually signing the deal: and remember, many deals have fallen through or been rejected by the club at very advanced stages... So having brilliant connections with the club, or even being an employee, whilst giving some fascinating insights that we're all grateful for, and occasionally advanced knowledge of what the club's hoping to do or considering doing, which we all value hearing about, in no way ensures that anything mooted will actually come about.

We all know this, but it still surprises me how quick we sometimes are to assume that a hint from an ITK (I so hate that term) is a reliable indicator of what's going to happen.

Or maybe it's just a bit of fun. Fine. It fills the closed season with something other than cricket, golf and holiday regrets I suppose!

I think you're thinking of Van Tonghen..
