The fact JJ uses the word complicated is a concern with the clock ticking towards the players returning.

May just be my intepretation but complicated suggests someone already in employment ?

I think it more means that the owners are split about who they want

Levy wanting for example AVB but Lewis being unhappy with that and wanting Martinez (not fact just first 2 names off top of my head)

So barely 10 days before training starts we have

No manager
No assistants and coaches
Defoe and Kane as our only strikers

Hard to be optimistic right now

I think the fact that no candidates have pulled themselves out of the race has given us perhaps more problems than solutions. I dare say we will diligently be interviewing several candidates and with the reputation and ego's we are dealing with, no one likes to feel they are somebody's back up.

Hadnt thought of it like that, but fair shout, especially with the suggestion that Lewis is getting more involved.

It's looking increasing like we haven't a clue which direction to go in regarding a new manager.

I disagree, JJ has been saying for a good few days now that basically we are trying to appoint someone and if talks don't progress with him then AVB is back-up option. This just seems to be playing out in that way. No doubt it probably is as we though with Blanc the number one choice who will confirm or not after France's exit from the Euro's and we're keeping AVB on ice in the meantime.

I've now seen A&C twice hint at Laurent Blanc in the last 24 hours, now unless i'm reading too much into what he is saying, then I don't think AVB is as cut and dried as everyone is saying.

For what its worth I think Blanc is our first choice, but a good possibility we wont get him. Maybe he wont want to come.
I think AVB is a genuine candidate that excites Levy. Or Levy at least agrees with AVBs principles and ideas, and visions.
I then think, if those two fail, Capello is the backup plan. If Blanc says no, and AVBs demands are not agreeable with the club, then I can see Levy going to Capello, offering him a 2 year deal, with Sherwood in mind to step in if things go wrong. Sherwood is perhaps earmarked for future Management anyway. Cutting his teeth in the Technical Director role, or whatever it is called, gaining experience, installing the early foundations of our longterm footballing ethos, and then taking the reins at the top of the shop to follow that ethos through. Sherwood = Pep Guardiola.................. :D I'm joking about that bit.

No AVB so far suggests exactly that, NO AVB.

tbh if this stroy is true, and its probably bullshit, I quite like the arrogance of the guy, I had enough of arry's inferior complex regarding the status of THF, and reckon AVB would be an astute appointment....

I highly doubt this is true, but i would prefer someone with a bit of arrogance about them too. All the great managers (and players) have this IMO.

AVB can't be cut and dried otherwise it would have been announced already.

I think the ITK's that have stuck their necks out on this already are guessing and hoping more than anything.

Not to say it won't be AVB, but it seems by the news today that he certainly isn't 100% our manager as yet.

I think if the board decided on AVB, Capello or any other high profile free agent then i'm sure we would have concluded a deal by now.

I'm speculating but I certainly get the vibe that they have more than a passing interest in Blanc and want to be able to speak openly with him and his representatives and should nothing come to fruition then look to AVB as our number one candidate.

Fact of the matter is that this is a huge decision by the board to make in light of Harry's departure so they have to make the right appointment and be unanimous.

a week or so a go jjetset said that we were looking at someone who was as good as redknapp in some areas but better in others, which i took to mean a good motivator and tactically astute, has any thing been said since that would mean this is no longer the case? as AVB is not the 1st name that would spring to mind if that is the case.

This is not a dig at AVB, i would actually be quite happy with him, but i still think it must be someone else, especially if there are complications, ie compensation to a club/FA

I want avb. Guy is damaged goods with a point to prove.

Sounds like powers that be want blanc. However my main issue with this would be blanc would see us as a stepping stone. Manure and whisky face not to mention the press would be tapping him up with any success.

Avb would want to see out any project.

Crikey! It's not even 8am and some people are wound up pretty tightly already. Pace yourselves, it's a long day (the longest, in fact), and we probably won't be any closer to a manager at the end of it.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm taking the media stories and ITK with copious amounts of salt. We don't know what's happening, and all information passed on is subject to individual perspectives and bias.

At the moment, I'm pretty confident that Levy is doing and continues to do what's best for the club, by taking his time over a key appointment, and that whoever gets appointed will be a good man for the job.

Are all days not equal in length...... ;-)

Any manager that is deemed successful at the time will be linked with the United job - it will be the biggest vacancy in world football and like it or not, any manager worth his salt will put his name in the hat, not just Blanc.

In any case, we can only look at the here and now and not worry about possible future events.

I don't get this at all. How many sucessors to Fergie are there gonna be. Mourniho, Moyes, Blanc. If we thought like that we would never ever get a manager or players for fear of losing them to Utd. We need to stop this defeatest attitude, and i'm sure it's the last thing on Daniel Levys mind when thinking about who to employ.

As for AVB seeing out any project, I don't buy that one either. If a big club comes calling, then anyone will listen to them wether it's a manager or player.

Christ on a bike, you lot are seriously impatient!!!

This managerial appointment is absolutely crucial for Levy, even moreso if we believe the info that he is trying to put longer term plans in place. This is not the kind of thing that should be rushed at all, quite the opposite. Personally I'm more than happy for Levy to take his time, conduct his interviews and do his research thoroughly, in the hope of ensuring we get the right man to takr this club forward over the next lot of years.......if that means the players have to spend the first few days of pre-season without a manager or coaches then so be it.
