This season has been full of top strikers saying that they want to leave their clubs, but none of them have, is Torres likely to be any different?

If we think that he is and we really want to move up to the next level, then we've surely got to be seriously thinking about making a bid.

Everyone knows that we are a top class striker away from being a serious title threat in seasons to come and even though he's has injuries, he is a player that can make the difference for us!

This is the massive name and statement that Levy would love to make to everyone and move this club to the next level!

Personally I would use that lot of money to buy both Llorente and Benzema.

You might need to factor in the past gulf between Spanish income tax for footballers and the rates here.

When Pennant went to Zaragoza, he was earning the equivalent of 80k a week, plus free car and villa.

Absolutely right. But I still think he would be affordable.

That's a good point, but the set up of the team is for us to play 1 up top with Rafa in behind, it also gives the wingers more freedom. Torres would score for fun linking with the attacking players we have. Defoe and Crouch would then be good backups!

And not another solid source, but wikipedia says the latest deal that Llorente signed sees his contract finishing in June 2011.

Well...?

He signed a two-year extension...the current one will expire in 2013 (I think summer).

"Athletic Bilbao are on the verge of agreeing a new contract with star striker Fernando Llorente, which would tie him to the Basque club until 2013.

AS report that Llorente will put pen to paper on his new deal before the club's general assembly on Monday. The contract is thought to be the most expensive deal that the club has ever offered.

Llorente's current contract, which runs until 2011, has a minimum fee release clause of €30 million. By Monday, this will have risen to around €50m.

However, the striker has recently warned Athletic that he will not remain with them forever as he has ambitions to play abroad."

Llorente is more realistic than Van Der Vaart was. He's on a lower wage. He isn't proven world class yet (hasn't played at a top club or Champions League football and only really started to show his true quality the past 18 mths). Forget the buy out clause, Spain is struggling big time and I cant see Bilbao really turn their noses at a big offer. His only other option seems to be Real Madrid, but the loan of Adebayor would suggest they might just sign him instead if he impresses.

Seems so, but again, I don't know if Wiki just hasn't been updated with his latest contract or whether it's solid, but it's giving me a semi at least.

he is not out of contract in the summer. we would of heard if a player of his level would be free in the summer

London is certainly abroad

Strange normally a player says I have ambitions to play for a big team- to say specifically abroad rules out Real Madrid

There is clearly only one option then :)

..Bayern?

Also maybe AB would rather sell him abroad. We always say we would rather send our best abroad so we don't have to play them again!!

In that case, either Benzema or Llorente and spend the rest on Diarra.

I was talking to madridspur on twitter. He works for a comms agency in Madrid and he says that although he has not heard anything concrete, he has been told by a few people that AB are desperate to sell.

I'm not sure that there's any reason for Bilbao to sell now instead of just waiting for summer though...they'll get the same money (or more) then and I don't think they're going to find a replacement Basque striker to sign on deadline day!

What happened the other day with POTL?

I gotta be careful here, I don't wanna stir a hornets nest, I think the mod's here have had enough of that, just say he was offended by a poster and decided to take a (indefinite?) break from ITK info.

If this is really the case and they are happy to sell I dont understand what we are waiting for.

I might have been naive but I really thought we'd have a striker signed up before now. 50 hours to go.

It's not looking goood.

Unless Real Madrid tell him they do not want him I can't see him coming here.

If you were a young English footballer at Everton, and Man Utd were after you, would you wait for them to make a bid or go to Villereal in January?
