I'm not sure that there's any reason for Bilbao to sell now instead of just waiting for summer though...they'll get the same money (or more) then and I don't think they're going to find a replacement Basque striker to sign on deadline day!

You pay a premium for any player in January.

If the rumours of their financial needs are true, perhaps they'd rather the money now than wait to the summer, even if it does leave them a bit short up front.

I was talking to madridspur on twitter. He works for a comms agency in Madrid and he says that although he has not heard anything concrete, he has been told by a few people that AB are desperate to sell.

I am now officially excited. The guy is top draw. I liked the idea of Carroll. I love the idea of Llorente.

If you were a young English footballer at Everton, and Man Utd were after you, would you wait for them to make a bid or go to Villereal in January?

I'd consider going to Villereal, but I am different, I would want to still be the first teamer, the top striker at a club and work my way up further.

If I went to Man U, I could see myself doing a Hernandez and starting the rare league game, maybe coming on as sub now and again and playing in the cups.

I've fallen for the whole "Get excited!!" thing all week, so I've pre-ordered my truck of salt for this weekend.

However if rumours are true, IMO he's the best striker we could get. He's fantastic. My brother is La Liga mad and he's raving about him. He, IMO, is the striker that would be the difference between 5th and 3rd/4th. Especially after watching that dire Chelsea side earlier today.

I'd say we're more of a Valencia/Atletico Madrid rather than a Villarreal mate.

They won't be able to afford it unless Chelsea do their deal first and if Torres is going to Chelsea, it will be at 10:59pm on Monday (unless they are Spurs in which case 4.30pm on Thursday :razz: )

Well he wont be a certain starter for Real Madrid and considering the revolving door they have at the club, it isn't always the best option to take. Who knows if Jose will still be at the club in the summer, in which case a new manager could come in and want to keep Benzema. He may not want Llorente. Not to mention they might sign Adebayor if he does well there (why loan him if you dont hope he fits in and proves to be a good signing at the end of the loan?). It's a risk for him to hold out on Madrid because he may not get his move and could also lose his opportunity to play for a big club in the Premier League.

Not to mention if Bilbao agree to sell him, he may just decide its in the best interests of everyone that he leaves this month rather than wait until the summer. He has the opportunity to play regular first team football for a big club, and could be playing Champions League football in a couple of weeks. Could be a better option than holding out just in case he makes it to Real Madrid, so he can sit on the bench (because Higuian will be back). Just look at VDV for example, he could've stayed on the Real Madrid bench, but he chose to come here and in order to play regular first team football.
