We have Been trying all week, 1 is close. Worth the wait on the others if they come off. #complicated

This was the most interesting bit from the weekend ITK. I would imagine Adebayor is the 1 that is close, but he says others as well which would suggest we're looking at at least 3 forwards in total.

Ideally one of those would be someone who can play as a wide forward or through the middle.

The most realistic part of that quote though...

Well they better come off! Otherwise i don't think we will push for top 4 with our current strike force!

2 Strikers. 1 Mid, 1 Winger, PLEASE!!!!!

GK would be a bonus.

The thing that worries me is that if these potential strikers are 'worth the wait' does that mean they are in that category of player we rarely actually sign? We spend all our time doing everything we can to get these deals sorted and for whatever reason they dont come off, we are then left with no-one at all.. or the likes of Frazier fucking Campbell.

Obviously I have no idea what goes on, but wouldnt it make a nice change to be chasing an obtainable target that we can actually get across the line instead of the 'pipe dreams' ?

I hope we've set ourselves a deadline for these things we're working on. There can't be anymore excuses at the end of this window.

we hear about us going for the top target like Falcao, Benzema or Higuain yes i am sure we may ask about them but imho i would not think that we would spend a month or so on these type of player to get deals done and then fall thro due to there
wages.i am pretty sure that is 1 of the first things we look at, everyone knows we are not paying 150 or more pw on a player

Thank God JJ confirming Modric being imminent, it would of been crazy to let that drag until the end of August. Huge relief to hear that....

It does seem strange. I guess there are a number of ways around the wage structure, such as signing or performance-related bonuses. It sounds like Liverpool's new wage structure is heavily based on a flat rate + performance over the season, rather than offering new players a large wage regardless of how they play. We could be doing something similar.

I agree with your main point though. Even if we were thinking of offering additonal payments to 'compensate' for a lower wage, you'd hope that we'd see if this was remotely realistic before wasting any considerable time pursuing a player.

I hate to use this term but us selling Modric could really start the transfer 'merry-go-round'.

You're right, it's a horrible cliche but one which should be appropriate with regards to our transfer activity.

If a deal is concluded this week then i'll be absolutely staggered if we don't look to bring in further recruits before the Newcastle match.

Roberto Manchini said today he expects to sign 4 or 5 players in the next week or two, that'll probably have a bigger bearing on this merry go round you speak of:whistle:

Bollocks! There go another 4 or 5 of our targets!

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

4 or 5 players, where are they going to put them????

Hopefully modric sale pushes us on, if we can get 2 players of quality with the modric cashola then i would be happy.

I think posters in this forum may mention the likes of Falcao, Hulk etc but one look at the wages tells anyone with any business sense that they are almost certainly non starters, Higuain is also reported to have turned down an initial approach to come as part of a Modic deal.

Agree we are not likely to be paying £150k pw - in fact likely lower than that, so we need to adjust our sights to strikers who are very good but not necessarily the very top ones (and that includes Ade).

But he's been told by his Sporting Director to forget new players if other players do not leave - eg Ade, Dzeko or Tevez etc before he can sign Van Persie ! Given the wages Man City put all their players n, I would not bet on him shifting 4 or 5 and therefore they may not sign 4 or 5. First signs of FFP kicking in ?

doubt it, it's hardly stopped Chavski getting the cheque book out this summer

Do it, stop pissing about with pipe dreams. Sell modric, buy Lloris, dembele and luuk de jong. All young-ish, affordable and with scope to improve.

Wish list this week: Lloris, Moutinho/Sahin or another Modric replacment, Ade and a pacey forward player that can play both in the middle and on the side like Sturridge/Remy.

The money from Modric, Pav, Niko, Corluka and Pienaar should more than cover this!

Now make it happen so the team get 2 good weeks of training together and not this 31 August stuff again!
