He was indeed, but I don't think he's good enough to be counted on over a longer period of time. Yet, that is.

I don't think we can know that unless he gets a shot. Trouble is, we Spurs fans always love the big signings more. Archibald, Crooks, Falco. All did a fine job for us. Who generally got fewer plaudits? The guy who came through the ranks.

Really does depend a lot on who we get in, but we are overloaded in midfield and if we pay a big fee for Schneiderlin chances are Levy will want to cover that so fee wise Dembele, Paulinho and Sandro all should likely get fees in the £12/£16 mill range

At CB if we get Musacchio we'd have Daws, Verts, Vlad, Eunice, Deir, Musacchio and ignoring rumours of Lascelles. Something's got to give and Vald may get the biggest fee, Eunice the next if he can pass a medical

Chadli's a curious one, not really sharp enough for the PL imo, supposedly versatile but not good as a winger or in a 2nd striker capacity. He might get a stay of execution but I can see Poch prefering the pace of Andros and Azza and Chadli may also get a decent price. But if we don't get Rodriguez now he may hold off selling unless we add another striker.

Disagree about Chadli completely. He has pace, is good in the air and strong on the ball and will score goals in a Poch system. As for Lennon and Townsend, what do they offer aside from pace?, i mean neither are prolific scorers (and never have been) and their crossing woeful.

In the three friendlies that i have seen so far (and i was in Seattle) traditional wing play was totally absent with a handful of byline crosses being delivered and those mainly from Davies. The absolute necessity to have either of the former mentioned players ever present next season would be a big disappointment as far as i am concerned. They have flattered to deceive under AVB, and Sherwood and i just cannot see either flourishing in a Poch system.

The signings so far are what was needed and with one or two heading our way (according to some excellent ITK) make for an improved side way beyond the talents of Townsend and Lennon.

The Verts news, is second best so far outside of the extension that Lloris has penned. Fantastic news, and hooks our future Captain up long term one hopes!

Vertonghen has said as much in an article I read a week or so ago. I've been waiting for the announcement.

Vertonghen slowly picks up the pen and looks at it with contempt.
His lip curls as he thinks, I deserve so much better than a pen like this.

I'm not sure how we could have asked for a better window if Vertonghen agrees to a new deal and we bring in a CB like Musacchio. Lloris extends his contract, we sign a LB, brought in a reliable backup in Vorm, add a promising young CB in Dier, Vertonghen extends his contract and we give him a partner that he truly needed. I'd be ecstatic if it all turned out that way.

Agreed. Schneiderlin, Musacchio, Davies, some back ups and talents, keeping Lloris and Vertonghen....excellent stuff if it goes this way.

It was almost agreed pre-world cup, so I think it really is a question of pen-and-paper, and maybe he wanted to meet the sheriff too. Would be surprised if it isn't done by now to be honest, thought it was just a question of when we'd announce it.

Well I didn't say Chadli lacks pace (although I would not describe him as pacy), what I said was he lacks sharpness, he just seems to be slow in his reactions, slow in his decisions, in fact his whole approach smacks of slowness. He's not lacking in skill or aerial ability but just never ever looks quick in his actions
He'll get the odd goal if he has the ball and defenders drop off and give him a bit of time or space, he'll challenge well at a cross or a corner/free kick but we really need much more than that

I'm no fan of Townsend, he's far too greedy with the ball and very much a head down player, Lennon I have more time for, he was another head down player but he has been developing his game, when he goes past a player these days he tries to slow down and look at options. I think he has been unlucky in our strikers in recent years insofar as he has not had a player who will make a definite near post or far post run in anticipation of a cross. When you are a pacy winger like Lennon you need to know where you can play a cross knowing someone will be there and we haven't had a player like that. I like Lennon but I don't think we have ever got the best from his attacking threat, but we have gained from the way he tracks back and helps his full back out, in point of fact he has far better defensive reading than Walker
I'd much rather have Lennon around than Chadli that's for sure because apart from anything else his wide play will help pull defenders to one side rather than allow them to double mark Lamela in much the same way he helped Bale. I don't see Chadli offering the same. Yes he probably has a few more goals in him but I think in Lamela and Eriksen we have attackers who will provide goals and a few from Chadli as opposed to a couple from Lennon is not going to compensate for the other things Lennon brings
All that said I would prefer we get a real quality left side attacker with greater skill and vision than Lennon, none the less I still see him as a good squad member
In terms of sales though Chadli we might still recover much of what we paid if we sell him now, another season mainly as a cover could see his value drop. Then we have overseas numbers that we need to manage
I don't think any player benefited from either AVB's or Sherwoods tactics last season and the slow build up did no one any favours so I'm not going to condemn anyone too much but it was a failure to move the ball forward well and quickly that was the problem and the players that held on to the ball too long and Dembele and Chadli for me were players that never moved the ball quick enough. Lennon rarely received a pass into space when making a run making it harder to impress

All about opinions of course but Chadli for me just looks a player better suited to a slower league, for sure we can improve on Lennon never mind Andros, but I just don't see Chadli as being a player who would
