I am not sure that I am reading Herc's post right, RM want to let Ceballos go but they are pushing to the media it will be a loan only. Levy will only do with an an option in our favour, so the deal won't work. Do RM want to loan him with an option or not, or are they just playing games with the media?

or is the leak only partially true? A bit like with ND when it was imminent but Aulas was saying we only bid in the low 40s and he wanted 80 plus. Whereas with Hercs comments it suggests the media have been told it’s a loan only but the actual deal will either be an outright purchase or a loan with an option to buy.

Reading the iTK as RM leaking that we are only loaning but in truth will have option to buy? Will be structured in our favour

I read it as Real wanting us to take Ceballos on loan to get him in the shop window so they can sell him on for a bigger fee next season ("fattening the cow" for them), whereas we want an option to buy him outright after the loan.

Fail to get excited about loan only deals, especially considering our position in world football. Loan and option or no deal for me

Hercs accidental cryptic.

I thought he meant we didn't want cabellos at all at it was all RM rubbish to get C. Eriksen

I’m wondering if we have agreed the message that this is loan only to put off other clubs coming in for the player(s). This benefits us as there is less competition to drive prices up and benefits RM as they want to keep us sweet to get CE?????

I haven't heard much regarding Cebbalos, so can't really comment specifically. What I can say is real ALWAYS try to stack the deal in their favour when it comes to younger players.thats why they often include buy back clauses at fairly low prices, or loans without an option. Levy in the past has knocked these sort of deals stone dead. So imo it either won't happen at all if Madrid play it like is being reported, or it will be how herc is saying it. That the media have it wrong.

Think it's pretty obvious we wouldn't do a loan deal without an option to buy that works for us.

Having said that, even if we didn't have one, ultimately it's the player that decides what his next move is and not just Madrid. Players generally love playing for Poch, and the new stadium and training facilities can't hurt either. I'd be pretty confident we could charm almost any player these days.

And if they remain adamant that we fatten their cow, I’d imagine we’ll hear fairly quickly that the deal is off

Sounds to me like it’ll happen, but potentially on better terms than Real are declaring in the Spanish press.
Sounds very viable that we could have Lo Celso, Sessegnon(s) and Ceballos joining. That’s a decent shift around.
Still remains to be seen what impact Toby’s future has on any further incomings, also whether there is an additional forward incoming now Llorente has moved.

Reports in Spain said that Ceballos also wanted a loan to stop his outgoing agents profiting from a big transfer. Could mean the player and Madrid are more open to a buy option or obligation that they are letting on in the press. That's my guess from the Herc ITK.

Loan to buy is surely the logical compromise here. And if Madrid are wanting to 'fatten the cow' then I guess that means we might have to offer slightly more on the buy option to convince them. We've surely got room to manoeuvre on that front considering we're not likely to spend as much next summer compared to this.

Llorente hasn't moved. He's out of contract and we might extend it at some point. He is not listed as 'released' like Vorm was.

An option to buy still carries some risk though, doesn’t it? In that the player may refuse a deal at the end of the loan and return to RM? And we would have ended up fattening the cow for nothing?

That is true, but if he hasn't got "Audere Est Facere" tattooed on his forehead and isn't fully devoted to Poch by the end of the season he's a moron.

Dunno. Did kovacic enter contract negotiations with chelsea this summer? Or was it all agreed when he joined them on loan last summer?

I’m not sure. Wasn’t Kovacic’s deal a purchase with a loan back, though, rather than a loan with an option to buy?

I imagine (I’m no expert, of course) that the negotiations for a permanent transfer would be done if we activate the option to buy, or at least if we intend to activate the option to buy.

Ultimately, if the club feel it’s a viable path, who am I to say them nay? I’m just mulling over possible pitfalls.
