I don’t see our wage budget being cut so severely that we can’t afford a back up striker as particularly good news myself. But hey ho, to each their own.

I imagine a lot of teams have had to cut their wage budget with all the reduced income the past 18 months.

Dragon 1 on COYS re the last couple of days. Trigger warning, this makes for grim reading. (Apologies if already posted not spending hours reading through the thread this morning.)

We spent the last 48 hours of window desperately trying to shift Aurier or Doherty as Daniel would not sanction Emerson until one of them left

in the end when it was clear there were no takers we decided to cancel serge contract he was on 80k a week

as I said on Wednesday it was never going to be busy yesterday we could not get traore out of wolves and once the Tanguy to Lyon deal died it meant our business was finished

Tanguy is still here because there is no money in Europe , Daniel was not willing to take a huge haircut , he will not play until he is fit though

once Kane stayed we were never buying a striker , Daniel reduced the wage bill significantly this window and was never paying striker wages

re the signings , in Romero they feel they have bought the best available center half in the world that is why we paid over 40 million In a depressed market for him

we did the Emerson deal as we worry about tanganga making it through a 50 game season and neither Doherty or serge are up to it , we had agreed a 14 million fee for TOmayasu then they moved goalposts up to 17 million , we may still have done the deal but par viewed Emerson as better business for 25 million

The only other player who may have gone was winks but he loves it at spurs and is happy to be a squad player , no one offered more than 12 million so we were happy to keep him
I've read grimmer posts..

I trust that you are all ware that we won't be seeing much of Romero, Sanchez, Lo Celso and, possibly, Emerson this season. They will be off playing World Cup qualifiers in red-zone countries in September, October, November, January, February and March. After each visit they face 10 days isolating in a hotel room without exercise/training facilities.
Based on current guidelines…

Not knocking yidboy123 but I swear some people just wish injury on Kane and Son so they can say "I told you so!" when it happens.

Yh, I'm a spurs fan and want one of our best 2 players injured to derail our season. What a ridiculous post.

Bar 2017-2018 season kane has missed a chunk of games in a season or played unfit for a fair few because we were desperate, justifying mine and others points about back up needed.

I see that united were willing to let Martial leave wouldn't he be a good addition to our squad?
My onions FWIW his ship sailed when he went there instead of here.
He's not that great and I recon he's just a lower quality player than Son (I know he's for back up- I just don't like him!)

I read that the argies can avoid this and will fly to Croatia to train for 10days and then dont need to isolate in UK?

And also talks about isolating at Spurs Lodge to keep fit?

Guess that’s where the money’s coming from for Romero then.

Interesting post. Thanks for sharing.

Now…. Is someone with more time than me up for the NET WAGES calculation for the window? (net transfer spend is sooo Sky Sports) :sneaky:

£12m difference between Nuno and Jose's wages too. Massive savings - makes you wonder why we couldn't push the overall net spend a bit higher tbh.

Feeling more positive about things today after JJ's updates overnight. As long as the whole team is somewhat on the same page and happy with the business, then that's fine by me. I hope the gamble to not go for Traore will prove not too costly over the season, but it's been a positive summer overall with the changes, so let's enjoy the ride!

The bit about the striker is the disappointment.

I can’t believe we couldn’t get a striker of some description in on loan - much like vinny last year. The idea being they could play cups - much like vinny with his 10 goals.

The pressure on Scarlett is unfair at 17. But the more bits of info we are getting, the more it seems apparent that we are still massively reeling from the pandemic. So without the sale of Kane we were bound to have a window like this. It’s just that they weren’t transparent about it because the positioning and branding of the club is that we are now one of the big boys.

We’re not.
