I'm amazing that GB thinks he'll be an auto starter. Yes he's obviously class and looks it in our team BUT RM also have a squad of them and need to keep em all happy to an extent. Ronald's, Kheidra, Kaka, ISCO, MODRIC, RONALDO, DI MARIA, Alonso, Illarramendi, OZIL, MARCELO, Rodriquez to name a few midfielders. He would be stupid to go with all that lot there. Isco and Asier Illarramendi are gonna expect game time in CM having moved for a combined £60m! Ronaldo ain't gonna warm the bench, nor is Ozil. Can only see him replacing Di Maria but Bale doesn't want to play on the wing anymore. Maybe if he goes RM he simply doesn't want to play football anymore

Reality is, pretty much since that Milan game in 2010, we all knew we had a phenomenon in our team, and me and my other spurs chums who I hang around with all talked about it at the time, we agreed even if he stays at that level we won't keep him much longer...the thing is he has got better and better, last season he was absolute magic, he is a once every couple of decades player for us, I have not seen someone this good in a spurs shirt since Gazza (I mean proper talented naturally). I think we all know Bale was going to attract bigger clubs, I'm surprised Man U, City, Chelsea didn't come in for him last season.

Now the reality is here, the reality we all knew was coming. I'm not saying he will go this summer, I'm sure he would be happy to stay another year. I wouldn't begrudge him a move to a huge club in the future, a player like that deserves to do well on the biggest stage. He should be looking at winning titles in England/Spain Germany along with champs league medals. He is that good. It's just sad we are not at that level yet.

Hopefully Levy realises this and pulls his finger out and wraps up Soldado, gets another world class player in, then maybe, just maybe we could win maybe the FA cup next year, along with the the Europa cup and finish in the top three. Then Bale may see the sense in staying with the mighty spurs.

To sell Bale now would be madness, even for the sums being quoted.

The first reason for this is that the clubs of any potential replacement players will ask for vast somes having seen us just receive a potential record breaking amount.

Levy easily knows this.

Second reason is that Bale could be worth more to us than Madrid are offering if he stays.

Accounting for potential CL football, attracting better players (as proved with Paulinho supposedly), leading to a better chance of sustained CL football, not to mention wages spent on replacements and sponserships/the global brand of Tottenham Hotspur.

Third reason (and most important reason) is that you don't just replace Bale. Levy and to a greater extent AVB will no that to sell bale will change the dynamics of the team. The type of change that will need a whole summer to way up new systems, tinker with both current and new players, defining a new channel of play.

That said, to sell Bale now would be of great detriment to the teams early season progress. More so than keeping a potentially unhappy bale. I believe that once he gets a ball at his feet and the crowed behind him he will give us 100% this season.

Sell at the start of next season early, and then implement the change, transition and evelution as required.

Quite strange tbh, as I think he would fit a hell of alot more i to their team balance wise. From a pure footballing side, Suarez is the player they should buy.

You can get 2 Suarez's for the price of our GB as well! Plus LS has said he wants to leave 5 times, our GB hasn't said anything of the sort!

The noise from the media on Bale is ridiculous but who would you back to withstand it? Levy of course. It does seem Bale wants to go now- too much pointing in that direction but that doesn't mean Levy has to accede and i don't think he will.

He has the contract and he can say to Bale you said you were staying, we have built our plans around that- going 4-3-3 and buying Paulinho so we aren't going to sell you now but you can have a contract for more money and a deal about what happens next summer in various scenarios.

Every day until the window closes will be anxious because of the media onslaught but i think we will be ok.

I hope the silence from the Levy team is because we are working behind the scenes to bring in the players we need to replace Bale. its going to happen so deal with it. We dont want RM unwanted players. Di Maria is a diving cheat who spends most of his time laying on the grass and rolling about. i would much rather we went after Rooney and Shaw (i dont know much about Lemala is he any good and what position)

As you say cash up front and declared so that the media can see. Why are the media not picking up that they still owe us for Ratboy so how coulda they afford£100m?

We cannot afford Rooney's wages. That's the problem with selling Bale and looking to re-invest quickly: We can't afford the wages of a large number of players who command massive transfer fees that would improve us. Shaw isn't what we need at the current moment. We want immediate high level talent that can come in and help this team push for a top 3 position. Coentrao is the better player and the finished article.

As for Di Maria, I have no idea why so many here are downplaying how good of a player he is. You don't have 52 appearances for a squad like Real unless you are a top shelf player. He would walk into any side in the EPL. We aren't going to buy a more gifted player in the remainder of this window if Bale leaves, but then again, it's rather moot, as he apparently doesn't fancy the move to us.

Lamela would be our #1 priority if Bale went, given that Baldini brought him to Roma. He's an absolute superstar in the making. 21 years old and a top player in Serie A already. He has all the attributes to reach the same heights Bale has with us. Unfortunately, if we sell Bale for 100 million pounds, then Roma will want half of that, if not more, for him. That's the conundrum with a straight cash deal. Nevermind the installments Real likely will want to make the payments in.

I believe that Marca's front page today is saying that Levy is impossible to deal with and is asking £125m or something like that

I may be wrong but I read this as the first step in them climbing down

"we have done everything we can to secure Bale, he is desperate to come but Levy won't sell full stop. We are Real Madrid and the Real Madrid fans know we are the best but there is no dealing with this Levy bloke at the moment. Lets move on to Suarez"

or am I just being too hopeful?

Is it clutching at straws to think Bale might want to be the main man at Spurs and in the PL rather than in Ronaldo's shadow. Madrid fans don't seem all that keen.

Would be difficult to stay in Ronaldo's shadow with all them step-overs (showpony) :D

understandable. the guy is a prick

his trick to get a move is to bite an opponent.

Fancies leaving Ajax, bites someone. Liverpool get him on the cheap.
Causes problems, blames the media, bites Ivanovic. Demands to leave.
If he goes to Real he can bite someone and head to Bayern or PSG. Bite someone and then go to the other one.

I think this Bale situation simply serves to prove that agents are killing the gane we love so dearly. Its such a shame, nobody other than those who already do will be able to compete fairly, due to the obvious tapping up and corruption prevalent in the game. Agents are the root of all footballs evil.

it's just the cycle.

Excitement, disappointment, resignation. More excitement, disappointment, resignation. It's a soap opera for them. Keeps people buying their shit.

But the thing is there is only one Suarez, and only one Bale, tell me this which is the better player, more marketable, less of a PR risk, more if a glamour signing, which player would we all prefer, to me Suarez is a great player albeit an arsehole, but bale is in a different stratosphere, it's not even worth the comparison

Ha! I'm pretty sure if Madrid spend £100million he will be an automatic starter - probably on the right of a front 3 with Ronaldo on the left.

Madrid don't care how signings unbalance their side - do you not remember when they bought Beckham a season or two after buying Figo?

If Levy can sign Soldado and get Bale to sign a new contract it would likely mean Perez would buy Suarez which would scupper Wenger's hopes and leave both Arsenal and Liverpool with a big bag of cash and no decent strikers available to spend it on.
.

This is actually a very good point, if we don't sell them Bale it will likely leave them going for Suarez and helping us twice by weakening Liverpool and not strengthening Arsenal.

Frankly if we do sell Bale to Madrid then we should tell them that they have to sign Suarez first. This could be almost as important to us getting in the CL next season as keeping Bale.
