That was football from 15 years ago.

Don't think anyone has advanced their claim for a place in the first team, save for Dunk who was reliable enough.

It’s the beginning of the end for Southgate. With such a huge player base to choose from, his selections boggle the mind. He seems intent on trolling the fans and that only ever ends badly.

I think Southgate gets the next tournament but after that his time is surely done.

I actually think his pragmatic approach was right in the early days. We had a young squad and few top players in their prime.

But we now have the likes of Bellingham, Foden, Maddison and Kane. We need a manager who can get the best out of them and give them the freedom to play.

It’s clear that Southgate will leave after the Euro’s and Ange will be asked after we win the league! 🤣

Did people really expect an XI that has never played together and throwm together after a few days training to play like prime Brazil or something?

The second half was much better, but Australia were solid and settled as was expected.

Can't really judge on that, it's like a league cup XI.

I didn't expect much from that starting 11. I just don't really see the point in playing a team like that.

These quotes are reprehensible. He thinks people are idiots. He completely understands why people booed Henderson.

Honestly the fact he’s still selecting the likes of Henderson shows why he isn’t fit for the job. He’s always had his favourites and now it’s blatant to see.

He’s built his “legacy” on incredibly favourable World Cup/euros runs which I honestly think would’ve been bettered by an even half decent coach. He’s going to ruin the best pool of English players we’ve had in decades.

I gave up on international football a while ago but just reading match reports and saw nketiah came on.
Can anyone help me out on that, are England that short of forwards Southgate has to pick someone who has 13 league goals in 74 appearances over the last four seasons?

Italy game is the game to judge him on, and the players. That should be his first XI and be better.

It was a friendly and he rested Kane (something people have been asking for, for YEARS). Watkins started and scored. Nketiah is actually the all time top England u21s scorer so it's not that much of a stretch to see him given minutes.

Callum Wilson and Tammy Abraham would presumably be well ahead of Nketiah in the pecking order but I believe both are injured.

Also, if push came to shove in quite sure Southgate would play Rashford through the middle rather than Nketiah. So I reckon Nketiah is about 6th choice.

Because I dislike states that persecute people for their sexuality/race/gender more than I like watching England win a friendly.

There are other ways to show that though. Booing one of your own players doesn't do anything to that state.
