Not that I'm paying too much attention, but I'm concerned that the positivity around Postecoglu and his uncompromising approach to attacking football is already being undermined by Levy's usual silly buggers approach to transfers.

Its not though, is it? I haven't seen anything to say that a) Levy is at all involved in any transfers at present and b) we're playing silly buggers. The window has only just opened!

To whom it may concern(BSODL)

Tbf he's been involved, but not in identifying or trying to force players in. Long way to go in this window alone, but positive signs so far.

Yours sincerely,

Levy's biggest critic of late.

My overview atm is that Levy is in a great place now. Fans' expectations for the new season have drastically reduced. General opinion seems to be...attacking footie is all we ask...Europa a bonus.

What a lovely change for him from all the serial winner managers/demands we win something or buy stars.

Lo-cost player transfers ? no-one complains. His preferred top 6ish Prem place strategy is generally accepted now as best we can expect.

Happy days for Danny.

Disagree with this completely. Whilst some fans may think top 6 would be decent next season, the fault for this lies primarily with Levy. It’s kind of like a government wanting credit for bringing inflation down slightly when it’s higher than everywhere else to begin because of their ruinous policies…

Its hard to say what is really going on behind the scenes, but it looks promising from my perspective.

I think Levy has set a hard budget on net spend - including the Deki fee - and now we have a dedicated team trying to fill out the puzzle within those constraints. Even without Postecoglou, we knew we needed a Keeper, CB, creative Mid, and a winger - so I expect the scouts/recruitment have been working to identify those players all year. They give that list to Postecoglou to review, and he may have some input in terms of what he sees as priorities, and what he can live with as 2nd or 3rd choices.

We have seen us free up money with the Deki deal. It looks like we wanted Raya if we could get him at a certain price, once that looked off, we have moved to another option, which will free up money for the CB, CM, and Winger.

Levy seems to be driving the negotiations, not the player choice, and he is being more pragmatic in the negotiations - i.e. old Levy would have taken the Raya negotiations to the end of the summer, trying to force Brentford's hand. Instead, we get get an agreement on an acceptable alternative. That either forces Brentford to meet Levy's price, or we have a new Italian keeper. A strong negotiating position.

It also sounds like we are working on the Maddison deal - and presumably to get done before we head off to Asia.

Its early days, and I'd still like Levy to hire a DOF to hand off all of this responsibility, but this feels like maybe a few lessons have actually been learned.

You will still get it Trix. But we both know it is a lot different behind closed doors. Let’s just hope it stays that way.

Penny looks to have finally dropped and Levy can concentrate on what he's best at in the commercial aspect of the club and the people employed on the footballing side can concentrate on delivering the best structure possible for success without being micromanaged/coerced into compromises.

Bodes well if this status quo holds true.

I'm not saying the view I outlined is a good thing, or denying our leader has caused this situation with his behaviour, merely pointing out the reality that our fan expectations are reduced....but are you seriously expecting a top 4 finish next season ?
Not sure what you disagree with tbh.

He oversaw a four place drop in the league and feeble exits in particular in domestic cups. Revenue has dropped and he’s under great scrutiny this summer, we need early and significant (not doping scale) investment in GK, CB and AM. Let’s see if this comes before we start talking about expectations for the season ahead

He has been known to act from a position of weakness in the past… although that lot down the road appear to be showing him how to do it from a position of relative strength

I disagree with the idea that’s levy could or should be happy. The fact that the fanbase might be happy with top 6 highlights his failings over the last few years, and there is more scrutiny of his job performance than at any time since he took over the club

I completely agree. Of course the fans will still be charged at a very high rate, we can't reduce those can we?

The thing that gives me some faint hope is the Vicario move. Personally I'd much rather the Marmalade lad as a player with potential but he doesn't fit what Ange wants. It hopefully points to a bit more sensible thinking. Ditching a deal that looks it might drag with Raya but not just going for the next shiny thing instead of a better fit for what Ange wants. Backing the guy, as it were.

Fingers crossed, but it does look promising so far

It's too early to say unfortunately. I think we'll know more in a month or so when Ange has seen the players in pre-season and players are leaving (or not). DL needs to back the footballing side in terms of outs most importantly, and not create difficulties for Postecoglou by leaving him with a bloated squad with players who don't want to be here in a season with no European football.

Ahh well there's a misunderstanding...I'm not saying Levy could or should be happy...just that I'm speculating he is happy..or happier now than when the pressure to spend big with big time managers was on him.

He's happier now because his wallet is happier. Ange won't be demanding expensive stars like Conte/Mourinho...and we too (inc myself) fans have fewer dreams of triumphs than say this time last year.

This will all make Danny boy a happy boy...IMO.
