However I think its safe to say that if WE met all his demands it would still work out to be a top striker for a bargain price. Man City have gone out of their way to facilitate this transfer but no we want to drain every last drop. Even if it means going into the new season weaker.

You mean, offer him a four-year contract at £180k a week?

But (if its true) that proves my point. Its between Ade and City. Its not our end. We've offered a fair wage, but by the sound of it Ade wants Man City to pay full value for the contract he signed with them, while they are trying to save some money.

The only way we could influence getting him quicker is if we pay Ade the extra he is looking for - which we wouldn't do. Its a bit like the issue Vertongen had with Ajax which held up that deal.

Always wondered how this works. Is it linked to the modric concept where he had to hand in a request which meant he forgoes his loyalty bonus? So as ade is technically being sold he wants some
Dosh?

Never quite understood thsi

My understanding is that Ade wants value for the length of his contract. So, for example if he has 4 years left at £170k per week, and we are offering say £100k, he wants Man City to pay the additional £70k for all 4 years. Happy to be put right if I'm wrong tho.

His manc contract has 2 yrs left?? Why shld he deserve same value for yrs 3 & 4 with us? I know the charity, etc etc but it stinks of him being a greedy ****, I blame city for the ridiculous wages in the first place. But surely Ade shld accept a reduced wage once his current contract ends, as the one he is on is the product of an over ambitious sheik spunking all over football

Then that's a bit fucked. It would be greedy of him to ask them to pay £70k a week for 4 years just because its less than £170k a week for 2 years.

I thought the academy was in Portugal whilst the first team squad were in the USA?

I also find it highly unlikely that first team players go round spouting their thoughts to academy players.

Where's the ITK on Ruel Fox? It's nice to see once again the thread is being used for it's intended purpose

I'm not sure why Ade was in America, it was a strange one considering he was supposed to be training with Man City's youth team before that. It's certainly possible that he took the trip to America so that he could possibly join the team if his deal was completed. Man City would have to have given permission though.

As i see it, this ade transfer will go one of two ways:

1) he will be a complete dick and spend next season rotting in the city reserves as no other club in the world will pay him what he wants

Or

2) city will crumble on the last day of the window, give him what he wants just to get him
Off the books and levy will get his man

I cannot see anything being done before then

I think City would've definitely given him permission, since terms were agreed with Spurs and they, like us, would've expected it to be a formality - then he got greedy.

Any ITKs said anything about Chelsea and Modric? Ballague is claiming Levy has stalled on Madrid after Chelsea have offered £40m+...

I'm sorry but if hes prepared to sit on his arse and rot in the reserves I'd sooner not sign him anyway, not the sort of character we need sat on a big 4 year contract at our club.

This suits city. They know we are short of strikers and if they wait until the 31st it might mean we get off to a poor start to the season and therefore less chance of challenging this year. Makes sense as far as they are concerned to wait as long as possible before agreeing to the deal.

Some academy players were taken with the first team to the US - GK Jordan Archer being just one example

Haha if that's the case I would sell him to Chelsea, fuck Madrid.

Do you honestly think City see us as title rivals?

I agree with your conclusion, but I think point 2) should be subtly different: City will not pay him exactly what he wants, because there is no financial advantage for them. They might just as well have him out of all squads and training with the academy for the rest of his contract, and review the situation in each transfer window. But the unanswered question is how much of the extra will they be willing to pay, and is point 1) merely a bargaining chip from Adebayor's perspective or is he really prepared to do nothing for 4 years just to get his money. City will think "No" to the latter option, but the closer to the deadline we get, the more nervous they will become and the closer they will be willing to go towards Adebayor's requirements. They won't meet all his requirements though, otherwise they would have done so long ago. They will have a sticking point and so will Adebayor, but neither is letting the other know what their limits are, until they feel they have to. There is also the very very unlikely possibility that Tottenham will be stupid enough to cave in and pay the difference. Again, they may be willing to compromise a little, and may do on deadline day but not before. This is classic negotiation strategy.
