I can understand it affecting Everton, as they put out a full strength side in Europe. We changed all ten outfield starters.

I was talking about Everton and relating it more to us last season in the Europa.

Today we were just poor period although it still doesn't help IMO.

Our other top4 finish materialised through none other than the one man show that is Gareth Bale. And that is being more or less bourne out by the fact that our recruitment under Levy and Baldini's stewardship, while lavish, is flawed as well. See results on the pitch for the last season and a bit. Who else has looked capable of firing us to top4? Not one of them I would suggest.

And to counter your other point, IF Levy was happy with us 'punching above our weight' why sack every manager that has gone on to achieve this feat??

IF he was unhappy with the said results, what the fuck was he expecting???

Eitherway, he was trigger happy or asking the earth. No middle ground there as far as I can see.

To add to me quoted post, levy also lucked out with Jol too. Unless he had some foresight that sacking Santini, replacing him with his number2, and witnessing a run to the brink of 4th that had been a million miles from even the most optimistic Spurs fan's dreams, but I doubt it. Truth is he took the affordable option (nothing wrong with that at that point in time I hasten to add).

It just doesn't matter how our other top four finish materialised - that's the whole point. It gets left out because it doesn't suit an agenda - an agenda that insists we have only ever finished second once. And whenever it is challenged it is dismissed, dismissed because it didn't get CL football, dismissed because Bale did it all on his own, whatever. The fact is, we have finished in the top four not once but twice under Levy/ENIC and it is deliberate misrepresentation to state otherwise!

We disagree about the value of players bought under Baldini. I don't believe it is possible to make any definitive statements jsut yet (though today was as close as I have come to outright thinking Chiriches and Paulinho are in the FAIL department). The difference with me is, I remember the exact same situation with the batch that included Bale and Modric. I remember the usual suspects saying Modric was too weak for the EPL Wenger was right they said), I remember Bale being a useless Jonah who should be sold to Forest. I remember others from that batch flopping (ahem, David Bentley). I also remember that batch going on to be the hear to of the best squad we have had in two decades. So I don't read too much into young players not being astounding with one second of signing or certain members of a new batch not working out.

I never made any mention of Levy being happy. I just said we have finished above sixth more than we have sixth and under since Levy sacked Ghodd and made a host of institutional changes - and as seen as we are the sixth best financed club in the EPL, that is definitive improvement.

I don't believe Levy was trigger happy - I believe he made poor appointments in the first place, for the most part - see, I agree with you on that. These debates have been had elsewhere. He wasn't trigger happy with Redknapp - he got nearly four full years at the helm. That's a myth.

You're either totally ignorant (in the literal sense) of what happened with Santini/Jol or you are misrepresenting it: Santini wasn't sacked, he walked out. There was no lucking out with the Jol appointment, as I understand it. Jol was appointed as Santini's understudy with a view to being his eventual replacement - and with Santini's tenure not being a long-term one. it was done under advisement of Frank Arnesen. He was promoted sooner than expected (or maybe not) due to Santini walking away - that is not the same as saying it was never intended. Santini seemed a bit flawed - to put it politely :)

So many people excusing the performances because half the team got on a plane to Serbia and back.......... Wow

I don't know why some of you want to spin it. That was a shower of sh*t and those players should be ashamed of themselves. Look how angry out manager was. That should tell you how lazy and poor we are. Poch wasn't making excuses and neither should you.

True...but anyone who thinks the Europa League doesn't affect league performances are dreaming.

Even the 10 who didn't start? What was Adebayor's, Eriksen's, Chadli's, Vlad's, Kaboul's excuse. Sitting on their arses at home tired them out too? They probably got tired watching the Europa performance on TV at home in their mansions. I know I did.

Very true . For me taking the players out of their routine and sticking them on a plane to East Europe and back , even though not playing them out there ,seems to affect their energy levels .

Yeah!! All that 5star treatment and not playing is a fuckin' killer man!!!

And are also 3 points above relegation zone, seeing we are without win in 4 at all competitions that seems like more relevant gap.

We are going to get a BEATING ...
It certainly looks that way

Hopefully Arsenal will have an off day and a big London derby will be enough to inspire a better performance out of the team

I'd snatch hands off for a draw without question

I'm expecting a pretty heavy beat down too

Course it was arrogance this man has an ego and wealth the size of russia but how he got his money is not for us to decide thats for the goverment or KGB isnt it.
The fact is he has swallowed his pride brought Mourinho back and May well win another title along side all the others i cant help feeling envious at their haul of which We will never achieve under enic.
Surely if we can aqquire New owners that can get us closer to teams like them that has to be better for the long term future of the club unless your happy with the status quo.

It is up to each of us, as moral agents, to decide whether we find something reprehensible or not. I find him and his ilk unsavoury, to say the least. To be exact, however, it is not up to the government or the KGB (although talk of trials and bribes continues) it is for the FA to consider whether he is a fir and proper person or not. For them to decide that he is suggests to me that they either had large parts of evidence missing/withheld, or that large chunks of money changed hands. Either way, he used his ill-gotten gains to transform football in this country and in general, and change it for the worse.

He swallowed his pride, after how many subsequent appointments he made trying to cover up his immediately apparent error? And that misses the point - which is that he made bigger and far worse blunders than Levy/ENIC have ever done - but it is brushed over because he bought some trophies.

I wouldn't say I am envious of Chelsea's trophies - I wish we had the same trophy haul in the same period. But I am not sure I would one it to have been achieved by an oil mafioso buying them while horribly distorting football. But that is another debate that has been had elsewhere.

I am more than happy for ENIC to be replaced - as said in the Cain Hoy thread before kick-off. They have more resources and, for whatever reason, ENIC seem to be struggling to get the new stadium over the line, etc. Maybe it is time for a change, and just so long as the new owners are responsible and better financed than ENIC I am happy for them to take over where ENIC left off, and as soon as :)

Try this then......4 games without a win, 2 consecutive home defeats, shite football and a trip to the Emirates next week.

3 points off the bottom 3 with Arsenal away, Man City away and Southampton at home in between. Nope not the end of the world because i still think they're are 3 teams worse than us..... just.
