VdV friggin awesome...

he missed a pen and got sent off and I still was applauding him! The guy was class, committed and showed passion. If he had not got sent off I would be petitioning for him to made captain... but in hindsight Ledley is a calming choice.

Still VdV - 8M?!! Fooking steal.

If he plays like that every game (barring the red cards) we'll be ok.

Yup im a huge fan already. I disagree with you spunky, i don't think he was trying to prove anything infront of the dutch side. He carried himself exactly how he has in every game so far, very committed and tenacious. If anything, he was maybe trying too hard when making challenges, trying to make up for the penalty miss.

We have signed a top drawer player. Skill and industry is the nirvana, and I fucking love it that he has that little bit of attitude too. It's like we got a more intelligent, more skilful version of Bellamy. To think we would have all been chuffed with Cole and we ended up with VDV. Football life is rarely this good.

The guy isn't just a playmaker, he's a leader. He's constantly commanding the other players, he fights for the ball, and he is both stronger and quicker than I thought he was. Truly a class player.

Stupid fucking sending off though.

It speaks volumes of the man's talent in that he has become our most important player in just a couple of games.

I haven't read through this thread fully because my iPhone sucks cock, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but I'd like to say in Modric and vdV we have 2 genuine little gems. 2 of the very best players in the league. Obviously Bale is Mr Immense, but the other 2 have more central/free roles and can control a game from there - there really aren't many better midfielders than those 2.

If I HAD to keep one, Modric would still edge it for me at the moment. He just never gives the ball away. 2 outstanding world class players in our midfield, along with the best left sided player in the league.

When we click properly, especially when Defoe returns or we buy a world class striker, we're gonna be a bit special.

I agree fully with all the praise but it has to be said he's more than a little selfish. He often shoots when a pass would be better, doesn't trust some of the team around him and his comment after the game tonight "The guys will win for me" in the San Siro is hardly humility personified.

Mind you, when you're as good as him perhaps the arrogance is justified. Or no perhaps about it.

Modric, the Hudd, Crouch - that's quite enough humility for me. I want someone to take the team by the scruff of the neck and make them better, make them realise what you have to do to be the best. Gazza did it on the pitch, I hope and suspect that VDV can do it everywhere.

He might just make Keane take a long hard look at himself and realise that he can't be that man any more, but he can play the Gudjohnsen type role.

Did not watch the game but judging from the comments, I think we have found our very own Paul Scholes. A player who mixes midfield brilliance with some nasty tackling.

Once modric and Lennon find their form then we will have one of the most potent midfield in the league. Droolsome prospect.

I'm sure if we had drawn or lost there would be no positives about the sending off! It was reckless of him - I don't think there is any defending that. If Pav had done it people would be going mental at him saying how stupid he was.

TBH....I thought vdv getting sent off, helped us win in the end.

Don't get me wrong, he was brilliant, though stupid to get a red.

But at the time vdv was sent off, twente had just scored, and we were rocking big time, it seemed a repeat of werder or worse, was very likely.

then vdv got sent off, and we seemed to regroup whilst they seemed less dangerous.
we had that backs to the wall mentality with 10, and it kind of helped us, we really kept the ball well.

ok, the 3rd goal also came at the right time, but no-one could tell we were playing with 10.

we will never know the outcome, if vdv was not sent off, but to go on and win 4-1 with 10, was a show of real bottle and determination.

does anybody have his stats for the game? afaik he was notionally playing at RM but in one incident was back at our corner flag supporting BAE. That's a lot of grass

He's brilliant and I love the fact that he clearly wants to be here. When he missed the penalty you could see he was going to do everything in his power to make up for it and it was a great goal.

It was a very stupid sending off and he needs to take that out of his game. Yes Inter away is an okay one for him to miss as we see it as a game we may get nothing out of anyway, but I'd still rather be going to the San Siro with our best players available.

Brilliant player though. Just a shame we don't have a striker on his wavelength (I'm not sure if Pav is even on his own wavelength). I just hope him and JD link up well when the latter is back from injury.

silly sending off, but otherwise excellent, love his passion.

Short but sweet:grin:

This.
I suspect that he has been gradually easing into match fitness - didn't quite look it previously, despite his obvious class.

I agree fully with all the praise but it has to be said he's more than a little selfish. He often shoots when a pass would be better, doesn't trust some of the team around him and his comment after the game tonight "The guys will win for me" in the San Siro is hardly humility personified.

Said the same on Saturday - only difference was we lost (and, as above, still getting back to full match fitness, which I think he had lsat night). Against the Spammers our players looked too keen to give him the ball even when there were better options on, and he looked too much like he wanted a champagne goal. Well, he got his first outfield goal tonight, so maybe he will calm the fook down a tad.

Just a very minor crit, though:grin:

Modric, the Hudd, Crouch - that's quite enough humility for me. I want someone to take the team by the scruff of the neck and make them better, make them realise what you have to do to be the best. Gazza did it on the pitch, I hope and suspect that VDV can do it everywhere.

Well, here's hoping:whistle:

Blimey, that's an app and a half :shifty:

Y'know Bomber...always willing to pay good cash for the add on extras...especially ones that involve some kinda simulated sex actEek

Couldn't have said it better. In Modric and Van Der Varrt we have two very special players who would not look out of place anywhere in the world. Bale's workrate was again unbelievable. Lets hope Defoe can come back in and score a few and that Lennon can recapture his form from last season, because if that happens we really will be a special side.

He's brilliant and I love the fact that he clearly wants to be here. When he missed the penalty you could see he was going to do everything in his power to make up for it and it was a great goal.

Spot on here TSH, Van Der Varrt not only looks like a world class player, but also like someone who wants to be here and wants to win things. I hope we can keep the likes of him, Modric and Bale for years to come as if we do i'm sure we will be successful.

I think Mowdrich's performance was criminally understated last night. VDV was awesome though. I said after he got the first yellow that we needed half time to come otherwise he'd get sent off. Turns out that didn't help matters, although it bought us time for him to score

I think it's probably a good thing he isn't available for Inter. We will pick a more defensive side and won't be trying to accommodate a lot of attacking players in the side.
