This is a really strange one. It keeps come up in the media with credible sources claiming we've made bids for the player. But JJ keeps it's not going to happen. It seems like this is a player the chairman would like to sign but that our manager doesn't see as a priority.

I criticised Levy yesterday for looking to spend money on players that AVB doesn't want. But honestly this guy is too good to miss out on for the amount being written in the press.

Not sure who brought it up, but most passes in the French league the last two years. To me that says he stands up and doesn't hide, sometimes the team just goes off in a boil and we can all see the pressure building, MVila to me should help relieve that by getting on the ball and keeping it.

I would say Dembele is the more dynamic box to box type and M'Vila is more of a playmaker.

Have to disagree here, M'Vila is absolutely not a playmaker. He's a defensive midfielder with a decent short passing game. Not very creative at all.

you sure as all the clips i've seen is that he can make awesome through ball and long ball passes, i have also read a lot about him and he seems more than just a regular DM.

As I say, he has a good short passing game, better than a lot of other DMs, but not creative. His game is similar to Tiote in the sense that he needs somebody like Cabaye alongside him.

M'Vila is an excellent passer especially long passes. He was one of the top passers in Ligue 1 last season. He is nothing like Tiote, or Sandro for that matter who he seems to get lumped in with.

He's a much better passer than Tiote.

Tiote is like Sandro in many ways.

M'Vila is a powerful ball winner with a good short passing game. He's not as cultured as some people seem to think.

For the National Team he's purely the workhorse / anchorman. For Rennes he has to try and do a little more and get up and down the pitch, but he's not creative, he's not a great dribbler, he's not great under pressure in tight spaces, he's not going to pick the killer pass. Brahimi will become that player for them imo.

It's a crude measure and I can't be bothered to go and dig out some proper stats, but to illustrate the point 130 apps for Rennes and 3 assists according to Wiki.

Why oh why do we need another holding midfielder?

How many assists did Modric get for us?

yeah klinns i wouldn't go down the route of assists, assists are not teh only thing that shows good passing. Modric is an amazing passer of the ball but not every great pass was an assist.

Yes. And Modric's game is about assisting the assister. How do you measure that?

Yep, it was a frequently discussed topic regarding Modric with some saying his end product was poor due to lack of 'direct' assists / goals but what he bought to the team was an extra level to the build-up play allowing others to be in positions where they could provide assists / goals.

Tbh, from all the You Tube clips I've seen of this guys he's an excellent defensive midfielder, not a creative player

But what do I know? I've never seen him play except for France

France struggled for creativity when he replaced Cabaye and looked very poor with him and diarra

To be fair he wasn't a 100% fit and Nasri was supposed to be the primary play maker, the formation didn't help either.
