Truth be told, against Ar5ena1 Berba was the most inconspicuous player on the pitch for Spurs and we battered them. .

Hi Tommo -Berbs was crucially involved in all our first four goals before going off with game won at 4-1 - he was a vital fulcrum for our team that night - inconspicious - not to me - truth be told - not according to my view of the game - and I was there and have watched it at least 3 times since

I can't believe that the negative version is winning out here
come on people keep this one at the top until the day.

I'm even gonna upload a torrent of the 5-1 match, what would you like, the full dvd (2.3Gb) or the Avi version (still transfering but about 8/900M)

Regarding Berbatov. I remember in 1999 all the pundits claimed Ginola was gonna run rings around Leicester cos of the big pitch and he did sod all in that game (nobody did very much going forward for either team) but we still won.

Truth be told, against Ar5ena1 Berba was the most inconspicuous player on the pitch for Spurs and we battered them. Berba's individual performance in a game against a team who are as good defensively as Chelsea is unlikely to be the difference between the 2 sides. Its how we attack as a unit with Lennon, Keane, Jenas and Malbranque which will have a greater influence on the result.

We're still gonna win though.

simplistic. that logic would perhaps mean that swapping bent for Berb would make little difference!?!?

Looking at it more closely you see that Arsenal had to cater for Berbatov positionally and technically which affected thier ability to close down other players, play a higher line, operate in the zones they would prefer, committ a body into the CM or full backs overlapping wingers. Berbatov in a far less obvious way was just as contributory to all of our finest performances, by just being on the picth.

It will be the same with Chelsea. if we win but berbatov has seemed the least involved on the ball in that victory, it would be becasue he's taken attention away from the others. He will alter Grants tactics and Terry's and Carvahlo's positioning. He'll be the reason why makalele, essien and Lampard are further away from Drogba and why drogba is further away from our goal. He'll be the reason why Lennon is iscolated one on one with Cashley and why Terry is further than normal away to cover in behind becasuehe'd be backing up Carvahlos marking of Berbs on the other side of the pitch. And when essien covers the ground to plug the gap why jenas will ghost in and tap in on the near post.

you should pay attention more.

well said triks - and I've already pointed out Berbs was crucially involved in all 4 goals before he was taken off after about an hour with the job done at 4-1 (or 4-0 not sure of exact score at time)

in ginola's time teams often doubled/tripled up against him - unfortunately we didn't always make best use of the available space cos some of our players were less than good at the time

"Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet is adamant the team's chances of a rare win over London rivals Chelsea will not be ruined by playing three days before the Carling Cup final.
He said: "It can be difficult to recover in three days sometimes, but we have a young team and it won't be a problem. We will play our best team against Slavia and our best team on Sunday. We don't have two sides to choose from, like Chelsea."
