I'm convinced we can do it and what a lift it will be to beat Chelsea. They're looking strong again with virtually a full squad back but I know that with our belief and Ramos' tactical genius we'll be celebrating like crazy on Sunday night.

Berbatov is going to have to be immense in order for us to win this match. I just feel it. Obviously the midfield and defense are going to have to cancel out their side, but we need Berbatov to create some magic.

For the record, that's the 4th final in Berbatov's career. The first was with CSKA Sofia, I don't know much about it but that's the only won cup in his career so far. The next two finals were with Bayer. He scored the first goal in the final for so to say the German FA Cup but Bayer lost it. Then he appeared as a substitute already in the first half in the CL final against Real. In the injury time he had two good chances to level the result but Casillas made two brilliant saves and Real won the final. Hopefully, he is going to be luckier in his 4th final.

After the mandatory negative BS thread i have just seen, just trying to counter it. with a positive version of said BS. (positive BS if you like)
COYS

discuss.... (positively:wink:)

With the addition of solid defenders (Woodgate, Hutton, and  King) this squad is forming into one of the great Spurs sides.

Last season we had the beating of and should have beaten l'arse and chelski. This season we followed through and slapped l'arse around. Next it's chelski's turn to take a beating.

COYS!.

can't wait for Thursday and Sunday.

The Spurs are coming, the Spurs are coming!
I say no matter how you try, you realise there's no reply.
The Spurs are coming, the Spurs are coming!

By we I meant load of people on here. I myself have always been a JJ fan. The only time I've ever considered he might not be what we needed was when Ramos first took over, as I didn't see JJ fitting into Ramos' system. As it is, he's been brilliant. But yeah, I've been telling my Dad for the last few years that JJ is an unsung hero, but he was never having any of it. He likes him a lot at the moment though

Although I've always like Teemu, I would have been prepared to let him go in the summer on the basis that he was hardly being played, and it would be better for us to get a fee and save on wages rather than it barely making the bench. Thankfully he's still here, and would be half of my first choice central midfield for the final

I think an absolute load of nonsense was talked about Ramos players & system - quite hilarious to look back on it - we bought Hutton Gilberto Gunter & Woodgate - who of the self-appointed 'experts' got anywhere near that in Nov - if I remeber there was lots of talks of players from Spain & Italy - we got one from the NE - one from Scotland one from Wales and a Brazilian from Germany

I'd love Bent to score the winner - as long as Berbs & Keane got their medals and weren't injured I'd love to see Bent come off the bench and straight into Spurs folklore

The key for me is if/when we concede a goal. If we're 1-0 up with 20 mins to go and Chelsea push forward and grab a goal will our heads drop? If we can concede and keep our heads up, I think we will beat them. If heads go down and we play like we did when Slavia Prague scored then I think Chelsea will dominate us unfortunately so I think we need to be mentally strong as well as doing the business on the pitch with the ball.

Will be a tough ask but I personally think we can beat Chelsea but, and this goes without saying, aside from the above, Barbatov needs to play his socks off as we will be relying heavily on him to create/score.

My only concern is the midfield. In recent games against them we lose because they are killing the link with our forwards. If we can give them a fight in the middle we will score many goals and lift the cup.Otherwise it's gonna take some magic

Even the kids know which the first task of Chelsea's defenders and DMs will be: to isolate Berbatov from the game. But that's not always an easy task even for a team like Chelsea as his movement is extraordinary clever.

I have full faith in Ramos to pick the right strategy, and with Poyet to really fire the team up. They will have the right mentality, and we will win.

While I agree that in a window of Jargue's, Garay's and Villa's, we got an Englishman, a Welshman, a Scotsman and a Brazalian *sniggers :)*, the point about Ramos' system is more to do with the type of players rather than where they're from.

If Juande's time at Sevilla was anything to go by, he likes a tall commanding keeper, fullbacks who like to get forward, solid central defenders, attacking and pacey wingers, 2 solid central midfielders, a tall and skilful second striker and a another striker to play off the last man. I myself didn't see how Jenas would fit into that system. He wasn't a speedy winger, nor was he a solid central midfielder, IMO. Although he'd played the defensive midfield role earlier in his career, Jenas was a box-to-box player for us, and I simply didn't see him fitting into the kind of system Ramos plays.

Despite him being a local lad (more so that Spain, anyway), Hutton does fit into the system you'd expect of Ramos based on his style of play at Sevilla. He's an attacking fullback in the Alves mould.

I'd say the 2 players who I thougth were heading out of the door were JJ and Steed. Not because I didn't rate them: I love 'em :) But because I couldn't see them fitting into Ramos' system. However, they've both played some of their best stuff for Spurs under Juande, and I'm very happy to be proved wrong :)

There's a few Chelski fans in my office and I'm the only Spurs fan.

They've been so cocky about the final - I just did a Keegan-esque rant.

"I will LOVE IT if we beat them, LOVE IT!"

The key for me is closing down long range efforts ie Outside of the box.

With the exception of last seasons FA Cup result, our last 3-4 meetings with Chelsea, we have conceeded from shots outside the box:-

Makeleles volley
Carvalhos grass cutter
Gallas last minute winner at the Lane
Belletis earlier this season.

good points Christophe :) - of course all 4 signings are 'Ramos players' because they wouldn't be here if they weren't - and they probably do all fit into the template you describe - but still as you indicate a lot of people had us signing all sorts of Ramos players that didn't materialise - and not many had us signing the 4 we did sign (before they became general knowledge)

let's see how the summer signings fit into the perceived 'template' and how many the experts and ITKs call correctly :)

Terry and lampard and who ever else hasnt been fit will have a hard game midweek as well, and i hope they put them out, they dont have to get much of a knock, just keep them abit more tired for sunday!

Hutton coming back in and king will improve the defence a hell of alot, and who ever is in goals need to not do any stupid miskates like they have been doing

Berabtov has to be up for the game if we are going to win, if he isnt i cant see us carrying him though 80 odd mins for him to produce something for 10 mins, and JJ has to be ready to work his ass off, as well as hudd!

i can see us winning it 1-0, 78th min winner by Hudd  or a terry or lampard OG would be amusing as well

I hope its Cerny who is in goal for the CC final.

Do you know whos going to start on Thurs vs Slavia?

when was the last time we 'carried Berbatov for 80 mins' - I'd say it's more like the other way round - and why wouldn't Berbs be up for a Cup Final - it's all beyond me I have to say - when he goes it'll be quite apparent who was being carried and it ain't been Berbs for the most part

we'll hear Berbs is a luxury player next like Hoddle next :)
