Cheers chaps.

Looks like a good bit of business for United then, Evra is on the decline so they did need to strengthen that area.

Maybe we're doing a triangulation to avoid paying the 6m.

He goes on a free to Standard, and they we sign him for let's say 1m.

Think ManU were playing games -going to tribunal and demanding £6m to sell to Spurs. He definitely trained with Spurs and played a game with developoment squad. Maybe Spurs thought he was ok - but more like a £1m purchase and decided no point to go to tribunal if the compromise from the Tribunal was likely to be a development fee of say £3m (which he may not be worth).

Think ManU preferred him to go abroad free - hence todays deal. It may not be ant-Spurs per se, it maybe they want to send a signal to the rest of the young players not to walk away from Man U expecting to go to another Premiership side (as Fryers is one of 3 to have done so this close season)

....Unless of course there is a deal that Spurs can get him from Standard Liege in January/next summer after getting more experience of playing for them !

!

I largely agree.

We clearly had Zeki training and playing non-competitive football. So our coaches were able to take a close look at him, and could form a realistic judgement on his current playing level, his temperament, and his potential.

If Zeki was the second coming of Paolo Maldini, then we doubtless would have paid the rumoured £6m tribunal and substantial wage. Presumably, he isn't.

However, there are persistent rumours that Danny Rose will be loaned out, and I'd assumed this was because Zeki would be backing up Benny for the LB position.

If Rose goes, presumably Naughton and Smith, and Verts if necessary, will be the back up LBs.

Naughton and Smith, although right footers can do a reasonable job at LB - and Naughton is much more experienced than Fryers so even if Fryers had joined, think he would have only played up to say 10-15 games max to contnue giving him experience, and if BAE was out foir any reason one of Naughton or Verts would cover, so arguably no change with Fryers not joining.

Another strange thing is that I tthink the 'development fee' is a FIFA rule, and therefore Standard Liege would need to agree a fee with Man U.....! I cannot see that being large either, certainly not multiple millions.

Standard Liege are the one Belgium side Spurs have had dealings with in recent years - young M'Poku wanted to return there last summer so we let him go. Coincidence ?

Think we can only wait for a year or so to see !

We have a buy option in two years, lol. Masterful stroke to avoid the tribunal fee, I wonder who else Standard Leige might have since we seem to be cozy with them.

Oh and we signed and then eventually sold back M'Poku to them.

Two years seems a long time to wait. I suppose they could loan him to us in the next window though?

Anyone know how M'Poku's been doing for them incidentally? He looked an excellent talent when with us. Got homesick. Be nice if he could come back here eventually.

Pretty slick move there by Levy. Has that been truly confirmed or is it still just suggested?

Fryers could really benefit from just getting playing time. Age won't be an issue after 2 years as he will only be 21. Seems to be a great scenario for Spurs as well. From a lot of the things I read about him, he wasn't quite ready for the PL. At only 19, for him to have the opportunity to go and get tons of playing time is probably what's best for him in the long run. That, and Spurs can really evaluate him by his performances and not just the small sample size of him coming on in rare occasions for Man United as he did last year.

Fryers has signed for Standard Liege. Hardly a major miss, but a few ITKs have egg on their face after claiming it was a done deal.
