Signing Jagielka for anything over £6-7 million would be just as bad as when we spunked £16m on Bent and Bentley. Hell, while were at it ... we may as well pay over £10m for Parker too.

If we want to buy British, we should be buying young and upcoming players likes Danns (Birmingham), Clark (Villa), Jones (gone to Man U), Albrighton (Villa), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Southampton) etc ... Yes they cost a premium but you'll either get a good 10 years out of them or sell them for good money.

I think we are all underestimating the pull of our club. We do do ground work before we bid (normally). We must had been given good vibes from Rossi as we are making a good and proper bid.

By the way, I posted earlier that jagielka could be another option for us. Anyone like the idea of that?

THIS

i am shocked that so many people on this board dont realise how big a pull tottenham hotspur is..truly shocked

AND THIS

I don't believe he was ever on the news. He didn't quite have the looks of Georgie Thompson.

As much as I'd like this to be so true the reality is that we don't have the pulling power (or wages) to get a top top players.

We do well in getting in not complete players and watching them develop like Luka and Bale.

But when did we really last sign a real big target that was in the peak of his career? Klinnsman (first time) maybe?

You make a fair point...but...we have a much better 1st eleven and a much better squad than when we got Klinsmann. Presumably that means we are better and therefore a greater pull. So, it seems you are arguing against yourself:wink:

Yeah our pull is so great that even with us being in the Champions League, we couldnt get Joe Cole to come play for us. Cole instead chose the better wages offered by a club in decline like Liverpool did last summer.

If we had such a pull, in January when Levy was pushing around the wheelbarrow full of Euros around Spain, surely one of Aguero, Rossi, Llorente could have kicked up a fuss with their clubs saying that they want to play in Champions League with Tottenham.
Its the wages that you can offer that attract players to your club. Sadly we dont offer the huge wages that top top players drool after.
I think BAE said players don't play for clubs because they like the colour of the kits.

Saying we have a bigger pull than a lot of folk on here are accepting is not the same as saying we have an identical pull to United or :)bang: money grabbing Russian Mafia bastardos) Chelsea. it is saying we have a pretty big pull.
You use the example of Joe Cole from last Summer going to Liverpool for the money. But, wait-a-minute, wasn't last Summer also the time that we got Gallas even though he had an offer to stay at the Goons (and others, if you believe him); and VDV (who consulted with Edgar Davids before joining)
That's the problem with your argument, it relies on selectivity.
Look, we all know that ATM in the majority of transfer tug-of-wars with, say, United, they will win - but you notice I say the majority and not all.

Everything is sounding positive about Rossi. I don't think Redknapp would shoot his mouth off he hadn't been given information telling him that a deal is possible. If this happens within the next few weeks i'm sure we will all start feeling alot more optimistic about forthcoming season and the club in general.

I agree with everything you say, but, man, the bit I highlighted...

Jagielka and Cahill are so overrated .... why would we spend £12 - 18m on Jagielka who is nearly 29?

What...you mean...shock...horror...at the peak of his powers as a defenderEek

Will elborate some more tomorrow on Levy and how he works, in a rush

Rossi, Adebayor, Vuc, we are talking, optimistic on all. Only 2 of 3 tho.
Leandro, still done but Jan
After Hazard or Marin big time, if Modric goes, he will for big bid, guaranteed im told
Parker in soon
Villa have bid 5m for Hutton
Sunderland in for Jenas and Keane
QPR and Villareal in for Gio
Krancjar wants Zagreb, lots of offers in from others, but he digging heels in
We also want Sinclair
Jol wants Defoe
Still told R.Johnson as Cahill too pricey
Also arry wants Viera again

Fingers and Pies, Levy just wants the best deals possible. Dont expect all incomings mentioned

Levy and Arry are NOT seeing eye to eye, and it is tense. Basically, arry wants anyone and everyone, Levy will only do it if that player makes financial sense etc and only once squad is cleared.. Also arry does not give 2nd chances to anyone who pisses him off, i.e Gio, Bentley. Very ery stubborn

Mark Hughes has been sounded out as Arry's replacement btw

I'd like Rossi and Adebayor/Vucinic. I like the fluidity of having Rossi and Vucinic like Dan Ashcroft posted.

We should just get rid of Hutton. We won't get more than £5m imo.

If Villareal want Gio, give him to them and some cash for Rossi to reduce the transfer fee.

Why does Modric have to go to bring in Hazard or Marin? Surely they would be to cover Bale and Lennon or to play in place of Lennon?

Better side or not we still fail to pull the sort of player that have been suggested over the last god know how many windows.

Window after window goes by and we hear all the ITK about this super star and that world class player, but none seem to sign.

My point about Klinnsman was he was probably the last World Class player we signed in his prime (First time round)

Historically we may be a big club with a wonderful history but today we simply won't pay the wages to pull off one of these wonder signings.

I think we'll have a very good idea by the end of the week if Modric will end up staying...if its still silence from his end I reckon he'll go for 40 odd million.

If we have a chance of signing Rossi we need to be making a statement of intent pretty quickly.

Easier to convince Modric to give us another year if our actions are doing the talking.

Mixed bag there.

Great news about Rossi, Adebayor, Vucinic and Leandro

Can't see any way Parker will happen now the OS bung thing has happened.

Jol never overly rated Defoe, so I'm not sure either would be keen to be reunited. QPR's more a realistic destination for him IMO.

Don't rate Johnson - was carried by Dann last year.

Vieira was past it 3 years ago and would be a massive waste of money.

Hughes wtf :bang: It has got to be Ancelotti all the way.

Think you are also being selective. Gallas wanted a two year contract from Arsenal but they have a policy of offering a one year contract extension for players older than 30. Spurs were willing to offer him a two year contract and hence he came.

As for Van der Vaart, we snapped him up literally during the last hour of the transfer window. With the window closing, if he really wanted to leave Madrid, where he really didnt have a future, we were really his only option. Think he said he only had about an hour to make up his mind whether to join us or stay at Madrid. It wasnt as if he had two or three clubs to choose from with the transfer window about to shut.

As for transfer tug of war between Man U and Tottenham, Man U will win all not just the majority. Even Tottenham's better players the past few years like Carrick and Berbatov when United come calling leave for United.

So basically he's saying Levy won't stick to his word? He's done as a negotiator if that's the case. We're in for some issues.
