Vdv has to play behind the forward, he is one of the best on Europe in that positon. On the right he loses most of his potential. The only way to play with two strikers and vdv in his position would be 4-3-3 with Sandro, Diarra and Luka in the middle, Vucinic, vdv and ade upfront and bale and walker as full backs.

Interesting stuff on here from CM tonight. Personally I was hoping two out, Keane and Defoe. I can understand that that Harry doesn't want to make big changes, but I just don't see how the two mentioned fit in with a team built around VDV?

Those two out and Vucevic and Adebayor in would be a brilliant bit of business, suddenly we would have pace and strength up front, a real handful for opposition teams. The only problem would be that both of them are noted for being sulkers when things are not going their way, but then that is where Harry's "arm round the shoulder" should come in.

Would this work do you think? I agree about Rafa being nullified on the right but we'd have a better strike force with that?

One of Rafa's best games last year was on the right against the scum at home!
But yeah he is best behind the striker...
Only thing that annoyed me about Rafa towards the end of the season was he kept dropping deep too much

In regards to the Vucinic or Adebayor, surely it should be him AND Vucinic not one or the other?

I know it would be hard to overhaul our strike force in one window, but I dont think 2 strikers is an overhaul, more like a renovation.

The question I would ask is why would we retain 3 of last years strike force who were responsible for our mediocrity, those 3 are the ones holding us back so why would we want to be held back again ?

Apart from our strike force we are very strong all over the the park.

If its money, then I understand that we may not be able to buy 2 strikers, but if we can afford to buy more than 1 decent new striker then I really dont see any need to retain the average 3.

Its OK for harry to challenge them to do better but their track record from last year suggests that they wont do any better, and how long do we have to wait ?

Yep Rafa just wants to be involved in the game too much. Maybe having a more creative, or tougher player upfront would give him more confidence that he'll get the ball back.

It did my head in the amount of times I saw Bale, Modric and VDV work wonders in midfield, only to see the final ball to the forwards getting tripped over/missed/smashed into the car park by Crouch, Defoe or Pav.

Any news on Mata? As much as I love Lennon we could do with an upgrade.

Surely Pav and/or Defoe are due for a good season this year? I'd prefer Vucinic and Adebayor or Rossi, but if we have to make due with just one new senior striker I would hope we could still compete for a top 4 spot. I'd say ManU and Chelsea are the only two sure locks for top four. We'll be competing with City, Arse, and Liverpool for the other two spots, and I think we compare favorably with Arse and Pool, so it's certainly reasonable. And who knows, maybe some of the youth will turn out to be ready for the big time after January!

Personally I'd be happy to shift Keane and either Defoe and/or Pav and bring just one striker preferably Adebayor or Vucinic and give a couple of the younger ones a more time around the first team. Hell we could even keep GDS and play him. None of them could be less effective most of the time than Defoe.

if you were using these player you would just be better off going for 4-3-3

Bale - Ade - Vucinic

Modric - VDV
Sandro

bale could swap around with VDV aswell no doubt. would love to see how he would cope more centrally infact, hes got all the attributes.

Considering the amount that he played and the goals that he scored, Pav had a reasonable season last year. He will score goals (and do bugger-all else) but Aitch doesn't like playing him.

The problem if we keep Defoe is that he will play before Pav.....and Defoe is virtually useless. Sure, he will get a few goals when hitting it as hard as he can just happens to be wide of the 'keeper (not often) and when reacting to what happens in the box enables him to get lucky. But his total lack of anticipation/movement and his limited skillset mean that he just isn't good enough. If he offered something else to the team he might be worth keeping; but he doesn't. He is a waste of a squad number for a team in our position.

Berglad had it spot on: we MUST change our strikers now; it's too much of a risk to hope that they will somehow 'come good'.

if we end up with

Vucinic
Adebayor
Pav
a few young players id be happy. who knows maybe in jan/next season the younger players (mainly coulibaly) could be ready. probably not week in week out but can come in when needed. then we would be able to sell pav.

6.8 million for Taarabt, and he's not even our player. Nice one PSG.

17 million fee agreed according to most papers.

Indeed, I seriously doubt he would of made the grade and for that price they can re invest that into the team, that's an extra 4.8 mil in our kitty if you take our Sulley's fee.

Hi all, just some questions:

How many member's did SC lose to suicide after mystery's post?

I can still see us having crouchy, pav and JD up top
Although perhaps the mass suicide didn't happen, if the also read this

Coulibaly - We are not as close as the media and other people are saying, a few other clubs (not sure who) have come in on this one, it's now down to the player to decide his destination.
Perhaps Soulman, just saw the light and put pen to paper?

And regarding CM post/s

Defoe
Pavlyuchenko
Crouch
Vucinic/Adebayor/Rossi

Coulibaly to be used mainly in Europa League and Carling Cup..
VDV is not a striker
I assume he means 1 of V/A/R

Seems extremely unlikely (though good to see keane wasn't also included)

Harry has said on numerous occasions that he believes 3 "top"(1st team) strikers is the way, 4 is to difficult to manage. ( a view i agree with). Whilst VDV may not have the word striker after his name, he fills a position of 1. So is in the count.

Also taking into account we need to reduce the squad to 25.
Harry's qoutes on needing to "refresh" i think that was 1 of the enthusiasm he used:). Are we really going to go into the season with 6 players VDV, New S, Def, Pav, Cro, and SoulMan (assume he won't be loaned out, as i don't think he will, POV) for 2 positions?

Sorry i just don't think so. Keane plus 1 of Cro, def, pav, (I hope 2) will be gone, for a NEW S to come in......or mystery will be correct!

Still at least WHEN SoulMan plays, he has a song already...which is nice
"Solly, he'll Score, each and every day
So Guys, don't you fret
'Cause you ain't seen nothing yet
I'm talking about the soul man, soul man... etc"
Do people really think City would sell Adebayor to us, after the evidence over Bellendamy?

I Can't...Which is also fine by me, whilst i agree, he would be an upgrade on what we have, and lets face it who isn't(rhetorical) But personally i cant stand the guy.
