NELSEN COMPLETES MOVE
Posted 02 February 2012 10:10am
We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Ryan Nelsen.

The New Zealand international joins us from Blackburn Rovers where he spent seven years and made over 200 appearances.

Personally happy with this signing as I think he is a real leader and have generally a good record when ever he has played

Wonder how fit he is, but hopefully we stay injury free in defence then he wont have to play

Hope this is a good move for us and Ryan Nelsen. Looking at their forum the Rovers supporters are in shock. If he can prove his fitness he can provide real leadership, a trait in relative short supply at WHL in the past few seasons. Nelsen is still ambitious and I would imagine he sees himself as being involved in the Kiwi's latest World Cup qualification bid. He has been out since last April so he is backing himself to get fit enough to play again. See little downside in signing such a clear leader of men.

According to Ben Pearce (journo) on Twitter from Bond's press conference today he is fit and available for selection on Monday.

Judging by the thread title, he's certainly the First Lord Admiral of the Navy to make our First Team.

I have to admit I was jerking my knee rigorously when we signed him, but now I'm coming round to the idea of Nelsen in the team.

He's experienced, and won't be moaning like a bitch about being on the bench. He also sounds like he's a strong character to have at the club, which can only have a positive effect on the rest of the team.

Good luck Nelsen.

Oh and good luck to this Nelson geezer as well. Good to have you aboard skipper.

I wonder if he will be writing a piece on the website every week ala Dawson - you could say, it could be called 'Nelson's column!'

I'm here all week!

Good player in his day, certainly underestimated by a few on here. Hopefully over his injury problems and can play a role in the squad.

Agreed.

Mounds of experience as well and a great leader - I like the balance of our squad at the moment.

If he's passed a medical and is actually likely to be able to feature at some point then it's a reasonable signing, but he's played 1 game since April so I'm not sure we'll see much of him.

Could turn out to be more than capable of stepping in.

Was just reading the comments under a Guardian article on the transfer window (I know, I know) and there are a couple of Blackburn fans on there who seem to think that he wasn't as badly injured as everyone thought.

We should put him on the Kobe System.

Hopefully we won't see much of him playing (not an insult to him, but more in hope that Ledders and Kaboul can stay fit and play every week!).

It's Nelsen, not Nelson.

Hopefully, he has two good eyes and arms, as well as two quick feet and will be "all white" when he plays for us and doesn't have to go home to NZ too often if he's still playing for/captaining the national side.
