it comes down to personal preference. either you get a striker who'll score a decent amount but also offer a lot to the team in general play, or a deadly finisher who'll score a bunch but not really do a whole lot else.

Is Damiao a lethal, deadly finisher though?

I remain unconvinced.

Come on BC, you really saying that he did fuck all?!
He's a striker, a proper striker, and he scored goals.
He was in the right place at the right time - as has been seen with JD, much as I love him, you can't reach positional instincts.
When they got the ball to him, he did what he should. Do want him there, doing that, or tackling back at the left back slot?

There is a hell of a lot in between what he did and covering left back. What I'm saying is, there is a reason he's not been snapped up for a big price by one of Europe's big boys or even for a reasonable price by one of europe's medium boys, despite being Brazil's No.9 and 23yo.

Some players can score goals and do a little bit more as well. Henry, Ibrahimavic, Llorente, RVP, Rooney, Berbatov, Drogba, Torres, Dzeko, Aguero, Tevez, etc etc. Leandro doesn't. He may have the knack of scoring but if he isn't scoring he isn't really doing fuck all else. If we buy him and he scores 20+ goals a season I guess we'll take a view, especially if AVB gets us playing well around him, but you'd still always prefer a striker that can score and still offers a bit more all round, especially in the modern game.

He reminds me a lot of Shearer, and that's the very best he could ever be. Not a disaster I guess.

Suits me fine - let the midfielders ponce around, defenders defend and strikers put the ball in the fucking net.

Especially in a 4-3-3 you need a pure striker - don't give a monkey's what he does in the meantime, as long as he takes his chances.

Suprised we're not linked to Llorente as he seems to want out of Bilbao.
He rejected 80k a week from Bilbao, and the price seems to be around the £20m mark (allthough sounds way to low), but both should be in our reach.

Guess there is to many suitors around for him that can throw him a better package then we can though, but can always dream:rolleyes:

I don't agree with this at all. He has decent skill on the ball, good movement, and is a big target up front, though hoofing it to him obviously isn't a preferred option for Brazil nor should it be for us.

i meant more in general rather than with damiao in mind, i haven't really see enough of him to comment on how good a finisher he is. i don't really understand those that wouldn't want ade back, he scored 17 which is a decent amount(should've been 20 if you include the ridiculous offsides given against him), i think he assisted 11 or 12 and was always a decent outlet for us when under pressure, if he was a tad more prolific then he wouldn't be playing for spurs.

@jetsetyid thanks. Llorente has seemingly become available.. wages similar to ade? same age? potentially better?

The original JJetset@jetsetyid
@GazzehCOYS In answer to your questions yes, yes, yes.
