He is more likeable than Neymar I agree with that; and Italian Serie A is a much more established league than the Brazilian Serie A.

Not to detract from the point but the qualm I have with people loving Neymar is he isn't even massively consistent in his respective league; what says he can do it on the big stage? A few friendlies/WCQ for Brazil doesn't evidence his case very well either.

Will be interested to see what comes of him when he makes his big money move; no doubting he has immense talent mind you.

Agreed completely and wouldn't say it any different.

Adam Maher = Fantastic signing if the money is right. The kid's got a lot of ability right now and also potential to become even better.

We have been linked to him again today

Wouldn't mind signing Maher, Clasie and Mertens form the Eredivise before there stock gets too high

Once everyone is back from injuries, we will have a very good first X1, but we still need an AM and a winger for cover..

Would be lovely, but ANY big club would be after him. Literally every club would be going after him. Call me crazy but not much separates him from Neymar, and I actually might like El Shaarawy more.

He's more of a striker than Neymar but his (El Shaarawy) finishing has improved a lot from last season, a lot more composure.

On the basis that all things Belgian are superb these days, what about Dries Mertens ?

I've always wondered if Mertens can compete on the bigger stages. He looks a good goalscorer from wide areas, but the technique on his shooting weirdly enough looks quite poor, and he does not seem to be all that quick. Sort of reminded me of Shaqiri in some ways (although always thought that Shaqiri was a much better striker of the ball), and he is struggling to find the net in Germany.

Mertens may work out, but he is a definite risk.

Part of me thinks there could be substance especially if it's between us and Liverpool. He's got his former captain here, we're far superior on the table, and we've also probably got more opportunity for him to start right away.

So, if it's down to us and Liverpool, and the money is right, then yes I think we stand a good chance at signing him.

On the other hand, I think he's a bit of an enigma. Sometimes I watch him and think 'yeah, I want him' then other matches it's more of a 'meh' feeling. 20m is a lot of money so it's hard to imagine giving that up for a guy who doesn't really shine every time he's on the pitch (like a Moutinho/Willian/Isco/Etc.).

So have Liverpool.

Mertens would be great cover for Bale and competition for Lennon.

Don't think he would cost too much either.

so,.... just a loan then....

I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole ... he spent most of his last 18 months with Bremen on the bench due to poor form ... he's also injury prone. He's gone from a talented player to the German version of Shaun Wright-Phillips.

If we want a cheap, tricky, quick attacking player ... why not someone like Nathan Dyer at Swansea?

I'm largely convinced we won't spend more than £16.5m on a player in Jan, so if his price is higher then i'd rule him out.

There are 5 more Premier League games before the window opens and how we do might affect our potential in the transfer market. When we were struggling down in 8th I was thinking it was going to be very difficult to attract any decent players, but if we can continue this run going (and let's be honest we should be capable of it) and get up to 3rd place then I think potential signings are going to look at us and think we're a pretty good prospect right now. The money is surely there to sign a couple of quality players and after the way we stumbled last season in the second half you'd think Levy would think it might actually be worth some investment this time. Well we can hope.
