AVB needs to stop playing Caulker and Naughton together

I fully understand the need for rotation, as long as it isn't wholesale changes for every game, which AVB isn't doing so I'm happy. We have a big game in Europe on Thursday (a game I'm going to and am fucking excited about) and bearing in mind Verts has played alot of games recently too, Gallas still regaining fitness after injury I think the decision to play Dawson and Caulker today was an undestandable one, Caulker will only get better if he plays games so how is he going to do that from the bench? At the moment playing with Dawson is probably best for him, he will have a leader and experienced CB alongside him who will help him throughout the game, somenthing he does need, last season he had Ashley Williams alongside him who I am sure helped him through each game. The more games Caulker plays the less reliance he will need from a more experienced player next to him. He will come good.

Danny Rose has been immense for Sunderland, Why wasn't he recalled in January if Ekotto is not fully fit yet.

Walker and Naughton should be the Right Backs and Rose and Ekotto the left backs.

Not sure about Caulker. He's quite flat footed and he doesnt need much encouragement to take the easy option and kick it out when under the smallest pressure. Just my opinion but dont think he has it in him to be a top player.

Not sure why everyone is so annoyed at this thread. If the OP said 'we'll never get top four with these useless pricks' then fair enough. But the observation that we are defensively shaky when they both play is hardly a terrible observation.

With BAE coming back to fitness and Vertonghen in need of a rest I can understand AVB using the squad.

I really hope BAE gets back to fitness soon as we look a lot more balanced when he plays.

RB is not his natural position, he's has been shunted to LB all his career because he's not good enough to hold a position at RB.

25 year old pretender, League One is calling.

Well, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen him at RB, SB; it seems odd that if he's not good enough in his 'natural' position he's been played at LB, where it stands to reason he should be worse. He could be another Gunter for all I know, but I'd like to see proof of the pudding.

No, it's hardly terrible, and it's not without foundation, but it just seems that we're getting increasing negativity creeping in after wins we should be celebrating—after all, this was a potentially tricky fixture, but we would not have been flattered if the margin had been as big as last season's, whatever Pardew says. And really, to say that AVB should not play the two of them together? Clearly, he had his reasons, and whilst rotating the back line tends to go against accepted wisdom I assume one of those reasons is a tough Europa tie, and another concerns over BAE's readiness. Several of AVB's calls have been questioned, notably the delay in bringing Lloris into the league team, but he's been proven right in just about every instance so far. And whilst there were one or two nervy moments, it was hardly a catastrophic combination, was it?

I normally celebrate with beer, prostitutes and terrible dancing.

I use internet forums to discuss and debate both the postive and negative aspects of whatever I'm discussing.

I don't think it was catastrophic but despite our dominance for most of the 2nd half I had that uneasy feeling that Newcastle's pace and power might take advantage of Caulker in centre back and Naughton getting caught out of possession.

No idea why people are so against us debating it.

Dignified response.

He's just shit.

Fucking shit.

Bear what do you think about AVB picking him then? Lets say we agree with you (which most of us obviously don't) - what does this say about AVB playing him if KN is 'fucking shit'? Is AVB shit also for picking him? He could've played Benny or Verts there or even recalled Rose in January...KN doesn't pick himself after all - so is AVB fucking blind? Or stupid? Or both?

Could understand AVB's reasoning, due to late arrivals and full matches for Benny and Verts.
But Caulker is looking a bit lumpish, he tries to look composed but it just looks like he cannot sprint? he jogs to things when players are closing quickly and then has to rush his clearance giving up possession, seems slow on the turn too and his left foot ain't great either. coupled with a RB at LB it's not a good watch.

And also playing Dempsey who had to travel halfway around the world and is erm, not the most mobile at the best of times, seemed to fly in the face of why Verts and Benny weren't picked.

The original posts states: "Both look very shaky and inexperienced. They should not be playing together until they settle down."

This is hardly full of negativity and doom and gloom.

There's no mention of us failing, blaming them for the success we won't have this season or writing them off as shit. Just an observation that 2 inexperienced defenders need to time 'settle down' before playing regularly.

The bitching going on here is the people bitching about people who are bitching. And now me bitching about people bitching about people bitching.

Where will it all end?

It's one of the only gripes I have with AVB steve, and one I don't understand at all. In his last 3 games he's started 2 at LB and 1 at RB and been subbed in all 3. Can't ever remember seeing a full back subbed so many times.

and how do you expect them to settle if they dont get game time? they have to play in the premier league and they have to play in the spurs XI otherwise they'll never get used to it

In the short term, both would surely benifit from playing next to more experienced players .Then when they improve you could play them together, not now at such a vital part of our season...

I like Caulker think he will prove to be a top centre back in years to come. He is just having abit of a bad run of form at the moment.

I think Caulker will become a good centre half in time, but for a team that is on the verge and needs to be in the top 4, these little mistakes or inexperience can cost us goals. Thats why for me he should of had another season out on loan in the premiership.

I can only presume they both played together with AVB having Lyon in mind and keeping everyone fresh?
