Whilst there was still a chance of having a season. The players looked lost. Things did not look to be improving!!!

There was a rot in our club and that rot was AVB. What should we have done, let him have another 6 games to blame the fans, the players, the pitch, the ref, the board. His job was to coach this group of players and he couldn't fucking do it.

I think tonight suggests that the rot may not have been AVB, or at least not exclusively. We were as bad tonight as we were at our worst this season.

AVB has gone, we have to move on, but I can understand some people beginning to ask bigger questions, particularly about the running of the club.

In reality it wasn't really 442, Ade was basically playing a free roll, and fucking good he was too, but if it helps you to blame a man with 2 days training with the squad after what was largely an OK performance with a poor defensive plan against long balls, due in part to players who weren't match fit (Rose, Ade) being taken off early, so be it. Go mad.

I'm not a fan of the way of playing, but how? People seem to be lazily trotting out 'its 4-4-2's fault' and using pre-formed arguments to bash Sherwood to my eyes.

We started brightly, it got scrappy. It wasn't great but could have been a hell of a lot worse. Pathetic defending cost us. What formation would have meant a patched up defence defend long punts up field properly?

If AVB had made those substitutions tonight people would have been scathing. I'm not pro-AVB nor anti-Sherwood, but everybody should at least be critiqued with the same criteria.

What did us was, as you said, pathetic defending and also being generally shit in front of goal, but neither of those things are exclusively the managers doings.

The assertion was always that the bad results were AVB's fault ONLY.

Assertion from who? Who are you even talking about?

Our football under AVB was appalling to watch, genuinely appalling, but we were getting results and doing well in the league. Then results started to turn and the football didn't get any better.

We lost 3-0 to West ham at home, not something I can even begin to imagine any of the other top sides doing. We got absolutely pummelled by City, worse than they've pummelled any other side since the money came in. And they've delivered some massive thrashings. None as massive as the one we got though. Losing 5-0 to Liverpool at home. The worst home defeat in 16 years.

The one thing we were proud of following the tedious season opening was our cracking defensive record, but that utterly fell to shit in the most embarrassing way imaginable.

I'm not saying it's all AVB's fault. It clearly wasn't. But something needed to be done because things were going terribly, awfully wrong.

I don't think changing the manager will be a miracle solution to our problems, because Levy loves to meddle and has too many voices buzzing around him to achieve clear and effective strategy.

But seriously: our football under AVB was fucking terrible and always had been. Watching Spurs bored me to fucking tears and it's supposed to fun isn't it? Remember that. It's hardly a surprise people were getting fed up with it all.

He had 18 months and tbh I didn't see improvement. The football has been poor for 18 months. There were no signs!!! Take Bale out of last seasons team and you get the dross we were witnessing!!!

Bullshit...bullshit!

It's an old excuse based on the last 10 league games of the season only

Nothing tonight showed that AVB should have stayed.

It does show that 4-4-2 with two wingers and two strikers doesn't work in the modern game. If that's Sherwood's plan then we need a proper manager quickly.

If he was just trying it today then fair enough. But I think it was what a lot of us feared he might do so it is a bit worrying.

Tonight was properly ridiculous. It doesn't vindicate AVB's fans and it doesn't vindicate his detractors. It was just fucking ridiculous.

WINNER.

It was clear that even against a crap team it wasn't getting us anywhere.

The wingers did nothing, there was no link between midfield and attack and a better team would have walked through our midfield.

Yes defensive problems ultimately caused the goals but 4-4-2 doesn't and will never work. If it's what Sherwood plans to do then we're screwed. But at the moment that's still an if.

at some point, blame is going to have to be directed at the players. too many of them are simply not doing their job

formations aren't inherently attacking or defensive either. the idea that 4-4-2 is more attacking than 4-2-3-1 is fallacious

Did you watch us at Cardiff away? What about at Old Trafford last season? We had some good games under AVB, and some good results. That doesn't mean he should have stayed, but he wasn't a total lame duck either and to make him out as useless from start to finish is revisionist history.

What we've got now, in my opinion, is worse than what we had. So we need a new manager quickly, and we need to move on.

I think Rose and Adebayor were planned subs, the Townsend injury threw a spanner in the works. You could argue, and I would like to have seen, Eriksen instead of either Chadli or Holtby but neither were outrageously bad.

Getting rid of AVB is the biggest fucking mistake we've made in ages. The sad thing is it's a mistake we've made over and over for my whole life.

I'm so fucking sick of Tottenham Hotspur right now, there's only so long I can defend them. They just let me down over and over again.

Om dog - The levels of hysteria in here are frankly laughable. What are you going to do, threaten to bitch endlessly if we don't win and withdraw your valuable f-in wisdom and support for the team - grow a pair!

West Ham beat us 3-0 last time did they? Sorry, peeps that won't sodding well wash!

The assertion was always that the bad results were AVB's fault ONLY.

OK. He's gone. Finito. Done with. So what's the excuse this time?

Maybe we have a load of payers who need to bed in? Nope - that didn't excuse AVB.

Maybe it's that high line that leaves us exposed at the back. Why did we lose again tonight? Wasn't it our defence?

Or perhaps we've got injuries? Such a shame that all out injuries happened since Monday. Wait a moment!

Or the line striker? Yeah we scored a shedload tonight, didn't we?

Now, the haters have got everything they wanted. Having turned the fanbase into a seething cesspool of negativity, disunity and resentment, this is the fucking result!

Excellent work! You just be really fucking proud!
slow?
Whichever of these might be the reason, you are firing off strawmen with startling imprecision here.

1) Noone claimed AVB was the only problem.
2) Everyone agreed that players needed bedding in, the team needed gelling.
3) Poor defending, yes. WOuld´ve been even worse with a high line (As we saw last time 0-3)
4) Doesn´t make sense.
5) I believe you are now contributing more to turning "he fanbase into a seething cesspool of negativity, disunity and resentment" than practically any other person on here.

You know who you are:

You got everything you wanted: AVB gone, fast pace, open play, Adebayor in and two up front.

Are you happy NOW?

What next? Burn down the Lane? Sack all the players? Maybe next time you'll THINK before opening your mouths at least!

I certainly enjoyed the first hour very much. And we didnt lose by 3. (Or 5. Or 6.)

So it was well worth it. Tangible improvement. Upward trends.

Looking forward to Southampton.
