Hi 'Bennys': Although I agreed with your point that it was more Bale's skills rather than AVB's coaching that achieved "great attacking football" last season, I question much of what you followed up with...
How do you KNOW that Baldini "got in " players for AVB?
Last week I read a post that stated that Tim Sherwood sat on a Spurs "player selection committee", and so was partly - if not totally -responsible for the players he had to work with. I questioned whether the poster knew where the source of this was and whether this was a fact and never received an answer.
People on here - over and over - state their opinions on the performance of Club Personnel and the like based on nothing more than rumour and here-say. Over time this becomes 'fact' and as more and more of these 'facts' are argued, so this site goes on in ever decreasing (and repetitive) circles.
So, was it IN FACT Baldini, or a Selection Committee that included Tim Sherwood, who recommended or current crop of players to Chairman Levy? If it was one or the other, then opinions on the performances of both our current and past Coaches will vary accordingly.
hi Joe, yes fair point, i agree that we dont know for certain regarding the players in, but for what we read and learn and through common sense and filtering out the impossible etc .. I base my thoughts on Baldini's job, what he does for a living, and that is identifying players who are either good prospects, talent, quality available players HE thinks he may be able to 'get' etc and then gets the nod to do the deal. I would imagine that TS does not have the same in depth knowledge of that job description that baldini does and so would dismiss any involvement of TS's on transfer targets or dealings. Being in charge of the youth set up, he might well however, have more knowledge of youth/teen players who's names have cropped up here n there.
I would be very very surprised and disappointed if we did infact have a team of directors and other people thinking they know what the manager wants that sat around a table discussing players that they thought they should get him, It would make deals almost impossible to complete.
For me, the system should be, manager tells Baldini who he wants or at least the type for a position, Baldini identifies player/s, discuss with manager, agree, Levy signs cheque. But, we are spurs, we dont do simple lol.
