I was only able to catch the last half of the game live, but I think what's clear here is that this is the type of game that we would have probably lost last year. Going down to 10 men would have put all the players in a negative state of mind, whereas today they dug in and managed to get a result. It wasn't exactly pretty, but we got the job done.

Reminds me of the year when we qualified for the Champs League - that year if we had gone down to 10 men I was still fairly confident that we would go on and win the games we were expected to win - and we usually did. The last few years we seem to have lost that winning mentality, and we give up at the first sight of hardship. If Pochettino can instill a never say die winning attitude in us, then we already have players that are capable of doing great things. I agree with others that we could certainly do with another CB and some creativity/goal threats from midfield, but the squad we have isn't exactly rubbish.

Excited to see how things continue to develop...

I wasn't talking specifically about this game and it was just a flippant response so I don't know why some of you are getting your knickers in a twist.
the guy said he loves watching game in oz as they are all on live. very true however over the course of a season i would venture that most of our games would have a 3pm kick off in the uk? also given that most of the games are played during the winter, they will be on @ 2am in oz. I was out by an hour but I can work out my time zones.

And by the way, the west hame game started @ midnight over in oz so not sure what game you were watching at 10pm...

Haha OZ is made up of different Timezones, western and Eastern I live in Perth on the West coast, the West Coast Timezones is 2 hours behind the eastern and 3 hours when it's day light saving as we don't partake in daylight saving, meaning the kick off times are at an even better time then, so yes I was watching at 10 pm while others in OZ we're watching at Midnight, little lesson for ya.

first day of the season and already crazy decisions...

never a pen for West Brom, never.

never a pen for QPR

never a red card for Naughton

Barry should of had a second yellow and sent off

Its just mind boggling.

Agree with all your points, however if we think that was good enough today then we will get found out against Liverpool in a few weeks, let's build on the positives today and correct the negatives of which there were a few... Surely if you want to be a top top side that's what you strive to do ?
Erm.......I think this was already implied in his post

Don't get people slagging off Nabil.

I wasn't a huge fan at first but he's shown great maturity. Not fantastic today but the kid is 19 ffs. 19. He's got 3 or 4 years of development in him before we should be expecting him to be the real deal, which is fucking ages.

Show some patience with the guy.

Agree with this. Imo, the two centre mids are the most important positions on the pitch (excluding keepers) as everything goes through them. After Capoue was moved back into defence Bentaleb was practically expected to run the show. Personally, I don't think he should really be starting for us at the moment, but he's definitely good enough to be in and around the first team

Looking forward to next week against QPR. Harry is back on the lane. I think it should be noticed that he was the first to take us to the CL. Would really like if we made that noticed even if he is not with us anymore... someone that have made history for our club should always be treated with respect.

what do you think ?

Harry is a nice bloke but his decision to change a winning side and build a team around Crouch was the dopiest in the history of Spurs.

Only managed to catch the last 40 or so mins of the game. Surprised how much that can seem to change perspective.

Bentaleb was one of the stand out players in that spell for me, so I'm surprised to read the last few pages of him being slated, must have had a shocker first half!

The kid is gonna be a big talent. He has something special about him. He was a driving force for us in our second half fight back. Always got the bollocks to get on the ball and try and make stuff happen. Got great confidence and composure for one so young, especially as he was basically alone in CM after the sending off. We can't overplay him like Tim did, but he deserves to play a big part IMO.

I'm not as negative about the game as the majority it seems, but I was always gonna reserve judgement until after the first couple of home games anyway, that's when we'll have more of a barometer. You can't base judgement on a crazy game like today where we got a terrible red card after half an hour.

Yes attacking wasn't great, but Lamela and Eriksen were no worse than Cazorla and Sanchez today, and that lot were at home! Not to mention the Everton and Utd results.

From the 55 min mark I started to see us starting to press west ham with 10 men after weathering the storm, which eventually led to their red card. Finally some bollocks from a spurs team against adversity for once! Poch then made some effective substitutions, on top of his excellent (with hindsight) decision to shift Capoue back following the Naughton red. It has also been mentioned by a sky journo that Poch had us doing 10v11 training!

Finally there is the team spirit aspect. Poch and the team seem to have real belief this year, which I really hope continues, because if the players had the attitude of some people on here, we would never have won that game today.

Let's just wait and see how we get on at the lane for the next two games before trying to compare this side to last years train wreck of a season...

We need someone who is going to add to our goal threat though, so I expect Depay/Remy in...one of them for sure I think.

Remy looked very sharp today and Depay clearly had a blinder. Would be very happy with either but not sure if I'd sacrifice Townsend just yet (say for Remy). He's a fighter, and has a never say die attitude, which is why despite his short comings I wouldn't bet against him continuing to improve.

I think it was the right time for Harry to go.. however he should be shown respect when he comes back ( even if he didn't show us must respect in his last year). It's impossible to ignore the great memories he gave us.. likewise Modric & Bale if they ever comeback to the Lane.

I'm very interested to see what reception he'll get. Personally I'll just ignore him & focus on our own manager/team but I've no idea what the general consensus is?
Knowing harry he'll be expecting some sort of hero's welcome which I'm not sure he'll get. There certainly shouldn't be any bad feeling/booing though.
