It has to be heard to sell a player on Soton. They are currently dealing with a mass exodus and a lot of people view the situation there as destined for a terrible ending. While this might not be the case, it's how a lot of fans and journalists see it. And the players would probably see it the same way. So trying to get Morgan by offering a player swap is daft on our part. We should know that players are going to be scared to go there at the moment. So if we are trying a swap, we are wasting time and we'll be left at panic stations come the 11th hour.

It may well be we threw the player into the mix because Soton had asked for him in any deal, not necessarily us saying look we'll offer you say Andros and £10 mill or suchlike.
No doubt most players would see it as a step down but some younger players could see it as an opportunity to get more playing time and raise their profile. Given the interest and fees paid for the likes of Lallana, Shaw, Chambers and Lovren moving there for a couple of seasons and playing regularly may not be such a negative as sitting on our bench

I agree with the concept, but I kind of like Soton's team - I don't think they are competing for the top-6, but I don't think they are relegation fodder either. But, I can understand why players may be reluctant to leave London for any mid-table team.

Unfortunately, I don't know that we have any players who really want/need to get playing time to get into a national squad. Maybe Holtby - big stretch to get into the German side, or Townsend, but I imagine both think they can work their way into our side, and I don't think either would be guaranteed to walk into the starting XI for Soton.

little update from atlanta yid:
Nothing new but just to reconfirm what has all ready be posted
So just a snippet my friend is with JL all week so I am pressing hard for a little info
Be patient....
We are working hard to unload up to seven players many of the names have already been published in the press.
It will come down to the last few days to secure our targets
IMHO Doesn't look good if some of the seven don't want to leave it might mean we have to sell players that aren't on that list

Southampton's interest in Townsend? That might fit in with GF's info about a player not wanting to go.

According to reports Southampton are upping their bid for Townsend now. Given our obvious interest in MS, you get the the feeling that both parties are trying to achieve some common ground somewhere.

As one Saints fan said: 'it does seem like we're stepping into the fire by bidding for him'...

I think I'd rather stick with what we have than sell players we don't want to sell in order to get players in..

Problem is, I would say there is little to no chance of Townsend being interested in moving. Especially as he is spurs through and through.

I kind of agree but I guess it just depends how often he thinks he's going to be first choice. He needs a lot of coaching to fit into Poch's style IMO. At somewhere like Southampton he'd more of the main man etc.

Let's not just replace players with others a lot would be ok with. Who's to say it isn't Holtby or (can't see it at all) Capoue to bring in MS.
