Storts said this on COYS re Welbeck

*them is referring to Poch and whoever else chose Welbeck as an option

A move for Welbeck just screams a "Levy special".....he wants to leave United but doesn't want to drop far down the food chain, United want to move him but don't want to strengthen someone like Arse.

Everton just signed Eto'o so they would seem to be out of the race....means there is a very small market for Welbeck and with United looking to move him then Levy very well may have the upper hand.

Like him, hate him, want him, don't want him.....don't know that it matters, if we can pull off a signing for Welbeck at a reduced cost....well that sounds very much up Levy's alley.

I'm all for adding a wellbeck type player to our squad. I'd take James Milner too to replace a couple of Townsend holtby and Lennon.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Welbeck would be a good signing for us.

I like Welbeck but my only concern and it's very relevant is that he produces his best performances when he plays through the middle and not when he's stuck out on the left wing. Although we would be buying him for his versatility, I suspect we would also deploy him on the left, which is a bit meh.

Everybody wants Jay Rodriguez. Welbeck has better technical and physical attributes than J Rod. Give him some time with Poch and he will be firing on a similar if not better clip than J Rod was with Southampton. Not to mention he is younger and not coming off a serious injury.

He won't be going down the chain he'll be going up ;)

Good news about Jan. I get so fed up reading people on here saying he has a bad attitude or doesn't care about the club just because there were a few pictures of him not smiling.

Really should take the Captain's armband!

Suggestion that we are looking at Song and Welbeck as loans before the Southampton pair join us. Makes a bundle of sense, to be honest.

Also, I'm about the add to the Holtby thread with news that he is getting closer to a Hamburg move. He said something about "we'll see what happens in the next 2-3 days" apparently. Just so you know.

Does Welbeck have pace? Yes
So does Lennon, so does Townsend... But I tell you what, how about Fredricks? He has pace, in fact he has lots of pace and was originally winger.
Is he technically good? Yes
Fredricks, Ceballos are both technically good, how about giving them a chance, Townsend is technically good, infact we have lots of technically good players coming through.

Is he a current International? Yes
England are shit, like that means anything. Rooney was made captain, but has done the square root of FA for the national side.

Will he score more goals than Townsend or Lennon playing W/F position? Yes
My Nan can do better than them on that front, so that is not saying much. Chadli in one game has scored more than their combined totals for last season.

Is he young and still able to improve? Yes

Like most of our younger squad, most noticeably Ceballos and Fredricks.

Does he work hard off the ball? Yes

So do a lot of other players.

Can Daniel Levy make a profit if we sell him in 3-4 years? Yes

Most of the Manu fans I know, don't rate him at all. If he was that good, then why is he not staying at Manu?

Is LVG a nut-job? Yes
Like that has anything to do with it. LVG knows what he is doing... How many trophies has he won and just took Holland to the Semi-finals of the world cup.
I can't believe the crap I reading to justify this ridiculous notion that he an upgrade anything we have... I would rather bring the youth up and give them a chance.

Is he a much better fit for the system than our other current options?

A resounding yes.

But if we don't get MS, surely we have money then to spend and need an alternative option to him and possibly also another attacking player?

If for example we got some last minute bids for the likes of Soldado, Paulinho, Townsend etc.. we would probably want to have a player or two lined up or at least in discussions with on some level to bring in to replace the outgoing.

I can only see Welbeck coming in regarding attacking players. I for one would welcome his pace and general adaptability within Poch's system. Would be a bloody good addition to the squad and he is still young enough to improve under Poch in my opinion.

So you think Pochettino's judgement, who clearly feels Welbeck is indeed an upgrade and more suitable, is wank then?

Right.

The most adaptable and willing to adapt, affordable option we have with just a few days left in the window. Plus he's adaptable, oh and is willing to play across the front line. He's a very adaptable player.

I agree with most of your points here, I think Welbeck is a hard grafter and even though might favour playing down the middle, he actually is positionally very good at coming in from the left hand side.

To sum him up, I'd say he's always in the right place at the right time but just lacks any end product. I'd mostly put that down to a lack of game time and confidence and I think Poch, if anyone, could get the best out of him. So whilst initially turning my nose up, I can actually see this as an attractive signing for us!

I think his passing, vision, decision making, dribbling all leaves a bit to be desired personally. Certainly in no way see him as an upgrade on Chadli.

Quite frankly for the likely money it would cost, i'd take two of a kind.

A fucking good signing!

Too many people think Danny Welbeck = Frazer Campbell. Welbeck is on a different planet to Campbell. Quick, technically good, hard working, clever.

If Poch thinks this will work I trust him. Nobody at a WHL would have wanted a Jay Rodriguez pre Poch at Saints. Let the coach do the job he is good at doing - getting the best and more from players.

There just has to be a flaw in his game that Poch and his coaches see that just eludes us ordinary fans. I like the kid a lot, admire his effort and desire, but i guess that at the very top level that does not always transmit into the making of a top PL player?

You did miss the part of my post where I noted he would be a good squad player for covering a variety of positions and his probable willingness to adapt to a high press game. He'd be a solid signing. He'd given our current quality more depth. But just doesn't particularly add the quality that will take us up a notch. That's not a complaint per se, it's just acknowledging that it would be a sensible signing to many extents, but not one id get excited about particularly.

Loved by United fans I know. Not a shabby finisher and GNeville raves about his off the ball work. Which would be favourable for Poch I imagine.
