The way I see it is;

No matter which CM we sign this summer Bentaleb is most likely to be our best performer in this position next year. Therefore it is VITAL he signs his new contract ASAP! That being said I think he will!!

Regardless of the above situation, we need a new CM with the ability to be put under pressure and still find a forward pass. Also this player must be able to read the game defensively (much more important than the ability to make last ditch crunching tackles). This is why Morgan S, Kramer have to be front runners for this role (although both will be very hard to purchase!

Then we need forward players willing to press from the front AND make runs in behind their defence when we have the ball (rather than always wanting it to feet). This is Martial

Lastly, we need a more reliable back 4 in terms of personnel and consistency of performance. With walkers injuries it is important we sign an out and out RB. This is going to be Trippier. He also adds much needed crosses which will allow our front players to get into the box rather than one of them having to be the one to put the ball into the box!

After this if there is opportunities to sign Other young talents then great.

Oh and we have a lot of selling to do also!

Messi maradona hazard augero etc sometimes short players in a AM role are better, quick change if direction. I'm not worried, he's gonna be brilliant

.. thats quite an impressive analysis given you hadn't even heard of Edwards yesterday .. nice

ITK on Trippier is awesome btw.. we might end up with an actual defence in the correct positions this season

It's a release clause, how do people think he's trying to penny pinch?

Will be on wages... we see it a lot with our deals, agree them but not make them official until weeks later thus saving thousands on wages. So yes, penny pinching lol

Wasn't comparing talents as such just saying height in football has it's flaws and incredible players can be short, yh never heard of him but looks impressive so much so if he doesn't grow a few inches it's not gonna stop him probably being good.

trix on suggestions the trippier deal is dragging out because levy is trying to save a few quid: Nothing to worry about with this one, the financials are all sorted.

Good news. I'd happily have a team of "underwhelming" names that know how to do what the manager wants. Look at Wales vs Belgium the other night. That Belgium side pisses all over the Welsh on paper but that's not what matters.

If we can also add a smattering of talent to the squad (Martial etc) and keep our best then we will have an excellent season I'm sure.

AC Milan :D. They're very paying stupid fees and wages at the moment... sure we could send Capoue, Dembele and/or Paulinho their way lol
If AC Milan are paying stupid wages and aren't penny pinching why aren't their moves like Martinez or Kondogbia announced yet? Didn't you just use that as the prime example of our penny pinching for wages?

None of us should be surprised by the lack of interest in our surplus, the initial valuation probably puts buyers off until later in the window when Levy knocks 20% off, the buyer thinks they have a deal as they are desperate for players but Levy has the price he wanted to start with.
With the exception of Bentley old DL has done pretty well these last few seasons shifting players on, the issue for me is the volume we buy and sell every year, it needs to stop.
Problem for me is the quality we buy also. We finished a lucky 5th this year and as we all know if the last day results had if gone the other way could have easily been 7th. What I hate is seeing Utd and Liverpool doing business early, especially the likes of Depay! Why oh why can we never do this. I heard somewhere that we weren't going to do that again this season, but from all I am hearing, we will. People will say we need to be prudent and get the right deal, but at what cost to the season. If we are really serious about 4th this year, we must do business early, and I am afraid that may not mean getting rock bottom price. Did Utd pay over the odds for Depay? Who knows, what I do know is come pre season training I can see a lot of the people we will be fighting for fourth having done a lot of their business and we will still be trying to "sell before we buy" missing our first targets and getting number 2, maybe even 3 - remember last year?

We just did early business with Wimmer to be fair and most players are off to qualifiers, tournaments and holidays which is why not only our business is slow but everyone else's as well.. The reason we didn't get Depay is because he chose Utd over us. As far as I remember we were really serious about him last summer but he chose to stay at PSV instead. We're selling before we buy because of wages and not transfer fees (Trix info if I remember correctly). As far as I can tell we can be a bit more optimistic than usual and for once, I personally have really high hopes for this window!

Huh

Porto only announced Martinez will go to Milan in the last 48 hours and the likely signing of Kondogbia is less than 24 hours old. Nothing compared to us announcing deals weeks later.

We wouldn't have signed Depay even if he wanted to come to us as there's no way we would have matched United's bid of £31m.

Hear this argument every summer. Yet every summer we usually buy a player or 2 early in the window. We usually then have 1 or maybe 2 late bids as clubs/players try to hold out for the best deals. All clubs do this not just us. Yet the fans are only reading our Daily itk discussion and hearing all these names floating about and the panic sets in. Then the club will either get a late buy or they wont. If they do, they fucked up and should have done it before pre season, if they don't they fucked up and should have paid the extra because that player we were linked with would have been the difference between CL football. Even though usually the player disappears off the face of the earth and does shit the next season.

So far it looks like we have agreements for Wimmer and Tripier. We will now try and get a few players off the books before getting anyone else.

Have Milan announced it?

When we signed Wimmer we told Koln to hold off announcing it even though it was done.

Sounds to me like you're just bending examples to fit the narrative even when Spurs have done just the same.

The transfer window doesn't open till the 1st July. So announce all you want, they're not your player till then.

I'm quite sure United didn't pay 31m for his signature and even so he would have been cheaper last summer. The fee was quoted to be somewhere between 20-25m then.

EDIT: The guardian has it at £25m. Pinch of salt needed of course but definitely within our range.

Actually, If I'm not complete mistaken, they are. You're just not allowed to have them play a competitive game until then ;)

I think the deal can be done 100% between Clubs, and player etc, but its only ratified by the Premier League/governing bodies on July 1st.

So official acknowledgement comes on July 1st. Deals can be done before then though. That's my understanding at least.

The transfer window is basically a registration window so as far as I understand a player can train, sign and be with the club as much as he and the club wants but he's just not allowed to play competitively until he's been registered. I guess we're talking about the same thing though :p

or milners or ings wages. nobodys doing any business, apart from the established quality our two closest rivals have added. anyway, till the players report back for preseason, theres no need to worry.

Really like the way the club is going about its business now. Going by what the ITK says, we have cast our net pretty wide in order to get the right players in. There seems to be a definitive plan in place. Much better than the "AVB wants Hulk and no one else" days.
