There used to be a time in football when managers were brought in to get the most out of the players, now it seems we need to bring in players to make the most out of our managers.

What a complete and utter clusterfuck.

So what's your opinion on Eriksen?

Wasn't for me but I'll answer. He's a decent player, but I think he's playing close to his full potential. Right now coach needs to drop him 'cause his long poor form. But Eriksen is proven goalscorer and decent PL player... something Lamela isn't.

Eriksen has his flaws, but he's 100 times better player than Lamela.

Yes you are correct it is a common stick to beat him with.
But his passing is completion is better than Eriksens.
What happens is posters see one miss placed pass and focus on that and miss all the other passes.
All 3 of our AM pass completion is roughly the same Chadli 83.3% Lamela 82.8 Eriksen 82
So why is it Lamela gets bashed?
According to squawka stats, and I have no idea if they are good or not, Eriksen scored over 800 points last season, and Lamela scored 426. That's probably why Lamela gets bashed. I have a theory and I may be wrong, the reason Lamela is noticed is because it's the pass into the forward that is the one he is more likely to miss.

lamela's a better final third passer than eriksen, it's just that when lamela gives the ball away it's nearly always a terrible one that sticks in the mind.

So we got that inside forward you wanted to make your system work. Christ, he wasn't cheap! 30 million, they seem to be very expensive those guys. I was speaking to Jose though and he assured me it's the only way to play football now so I hope you like him.

Squawka are actually pretty good.
players are given a score on each game and they are added up for a total.
The only problem being is Eriksen played about 900 more minutes than Lamela.
So whatever Eriksen scored in those extra 900 minutes gets added.
Now whoscored who do there ratings on an average basis is a little fairer but not perfect.

There is a reason Erikson plays more, it's because he is better.

What on earth are you talking about mate?

Still trying to hard to play killer balls when they're not on... Wish he just pick a more simple pass and move go again rather than trying to thread the eye of a needle... Needle threading is the job of others in the team.
This one. The last sentence.
So has your opinion changed?

Yay, another talented player is wasted in our awful system and is shipped out for a huge loss, to be replaced by a youth product.

What a wonderful, career-destroying club we are, insisting on playing anti-football and then blaming talented players when they don't succeed in a system which doesn't work.

We have a small time mentality and I don't see that will ever change.

No my opinion has not changed at all. He's not great at reading the game to work out who's best to pass too, when to pass and where then to move to to receive the ball and go again. So its obviously not his job to do so. Frankly I'm not sure what his job should be. And I don't think he does. Which isn't his fault either.... Brilliant isn't it.

Nice.
You know Lamela was injured last season as well. Maybe that's why he doesn't have as many minutes.
Nice stats from whoscored ;)

I didn't check the who scored, to be honest I am not a big believer in stats, as I said I don't know if squawka are good or not. A lot Stats are mostly an opinion, the scorer has to make a judgement, and I trust my opinion over some known entity. As I said to you in the first season he has been disappointing, he hasn't changed. He is quite often labelled a flop in the newspapers etc, you are unfortunately for you in the minority these days.

I would still love it if he turned into the next Bale, but I won't be holding my breath.

So let's get this straight , the attacking midfielder shouldn't be trying through balls?
Have I got that right?

Its not anti football that loses the ball, gives away free kicks in dangerous areas, has no right foot and can only get to by line vs Ben Me.

Sorry, its just not.

Not saying our system is perfect but we finished 5th last year for all the career destroying we have done - some players just cant cut it.

There have been plenty that i thought could at us - like Gylfi, who could have been a star here. But Lamela is not built for this league and dare I say it, doesnt appear to have been working harder at being so.

He doesnt look like he has even tried to get stronger, improve his tacking, improve the speed at which he releases the ball overall.

It wasnt so long ago that a promising young player came to our first team and within not really that much time became the most expensive player in the world. I just cant believe you are being this dramatic over Erik Lamela.....

I've finally accepted we should move this lad on. Had such high hopes for him and thought he should be given one more season, but ......
He was so bad against Stoke. I know everyone is allowed a bad game, but he's been shocking in all three and in truth didn't do anywhere near enough last year. I know he got some assists and I'll never forget the Rabona. However unfortunately he just isn't suited to this league. No pace or strength and nowhere near good enough in other parts of his game to make up for this. I don't think he's a bad player. Like Paulinho and Soldado, just not suited to this league. Also, like the other two, not helped by Pochetino's rigid adherence to his playing style.

I think I'd rather give Pritchard and Onomah the game time Lamela will get if he stays.

Would love him to prove me wrong, but don't think he will.
