After seeing the power of Watfords attack and how it made mincemeat of Liverpool yesterday i think Benteke\Kane would be a good partnership. I Dont know if he is what we want though. Can he fit our system? probably not.
Exactly- he's a decent player but wrong time for us?

I see our Kane back-up being much more likely to be Afobe level rather than Benteke. Benteke seems way too high profile to play 2nd fiddle and if he is genuinely being offered around, I could see Chelsea and Utd potentially being interested too.

Afobe is someone used to scoring against tough Championship defences that could give Kane a rest against lesser option or be a plan B to bring on after 70mins. He's potentially our Ighalo (who is also probably now too expensive to be back-up for us) - pace, power and a composed finisher.

That said, my Wolves mate says he's pretty lazy and was far more effective last year when Dicko and Sako were doing all the running for him. Not sure that fits with Poch's pressing game, but then neither does Berahino particularly. Maybe we're not overly fussed about having a hard-working no. 2 striker if they're mainly coming off the bench against teams packing men behind the ball.

Benteke?

Can't see that happening, no way Pool would take a penny less than £32.5m they paid for him. Can't see us paying £32.5m for anyone in January.

Seems like the wrong time for us to make a move for him regardless if he would be a good or bad fit in the squad.

If you're offering a player around, as the ITK suggests, then you have to accept you'll get less than what you paid for a player.

You immediately show that you're desperate to get rid and so you cannot then expect to get full price.

I suspect Levy would say 'yes we'll have him....for 10m' and then go from there.

Benteke is a great player. Just because he doesn't fit in there, doesn't mean he wouldn't here. I'd be amazed if Liverpool offer him to us and strengthen their rivals. Unless he's a troublesome yoof...

Another point regarding Benteke, what sort of wages is he on at Liverpool. They have a tendency to over pay players and could imagine he would be on quite a large wage. Last thing we would want is a high payed rotation striker.

Granted, but i would think that the hope from Pool's side would be to sell Benteke to fund the purchase of a "Klopp's chocie" player. If that's the case they may be calling around to see if any of the clubs who had been interested in him are still interested in paying what Liverpool paid (or close to the same amount) 4 months ago. Especially when it would seem that a sale of Benteke would be fuelled by him not fitting in what Klopp is doing.

Benteke? Lol. Dippers are desperate to rid themselves, eh? It was a stupid transfer and a huge scouting fail. Complete scatter gun approach to the window they had and it showed. They force these guys on a lame duck manager who had no say and was obviously dangerously close to the sack without thinking of the consequences. Epic fail by them. He is a good striker but not suited to them or to us, for that matter. I'll pass on him. Same with Afobe. Bring me Ighalo.

But isn't Klopp's style similar to Poch's?

If benteke does not fit a high-pressing team, why would we want him here?

We would be very likely to play enough games each season to keep both Kane and Benteke happy and I think they could interchange in and out of the team without any huge changes to our playing style. They both play a physical game so not starting every week might do both their games some good.

I can't think of more gifted player with proven a proven Premiership goalscoring record that can lead the line on his own and hold the ball up other then perhaps Lukaku. He'll also be surrounded by Belgians to keep his spirits up. If this is even remotely achievable I say go for it 110%. I don't think £30mill sounds that unreasonable in the current market and he would need no acclimatisation whatsoever.

Benteke's fitness was an issue before he went to the bin dippers for a grossly inflated figure. He's missed a fair chunk of games this season due to niggling injuries. No doubt he's talented but he's one very expensive sick note and unless his asking price is £20m tops we should stay well clear of him.

Not unreasonable? Are you kidding? No way in hell should we pay £30m for him right now. Stop. We have a stadium to pay for. £30m fee with £100k/wk wages? For Benteke? Hell no.

I think the Chadli, Dembele, Verts and Toby will know enough about the player to guide the club as to whether he would be a good fit for the current team dynamic and style.

Benteke. Bidding stops for me at 16m transfer fee and 60k/week contract.

Any more from Pool on the former and/or Benteke's people on the latter and everything is off for me.

Way too much for an oft-injured back-up potentially at his third club in 6 months time.

But....

I think at that right price he would be a very clever signing.

EDIT: Mind you, this would be after contract extensions/raises to Kane, Lamela, Vertonghen, Dembele, etc. if possible now.

For the first time ever, I've got confidence that if we were to get Benteke (not that I think it will happen) then Poch and our medical\fitness team could sort out his fitness issues.

Fair point but we weren't interested in him at £32mil.
Could we not go to the Belgian FA for a contribution to the fee, it's got to be to their benefit having five internationals right through the team playing for a top Premier league club, well, it's worth a try anyway.

I'd take Benteke for £20m but there's no way Pool would take less than £25m imo.

We need a genuine, reliable alternative to Kane and Benteke would be a premium option, though expensive.

I don't see why he couldn't fit in with us. Uber lone forward who will hold the ball up. Ok we want him to be pressing from the front but who's to say Poch wouldn't be able to get him to do that.

The problem is though why would he want to come here and play second fiddle? Uprooting Harry would be extremely difficult now.

Anyway I don't believe Liverpool would sell him to a rival for a knock down price either, and after only signing him in the summer....can't see how this would have any legs to it whatsoever.

In a perfect world though he'd be a class addition to back up Kane and to give him some competition if we could nick him on the cheap.
If he wouldn't press for Rodgers or Klopp why would he suddenly do so for us?
