Would Wanyama get in any of those teams?
It's not about what teams he would and would not get into. The question is can he add something to the squad and the answer to that is yes.

Utd have had many a shit player over the years that have proven vital to title wins like Oshea, brown, phil Neville, etc.

Wanyama is a decent player - but is he enough? If Dembele is tired or hurt (and that's bound to happen) will we have enough creativity in the middle if Dier and Wanyama are paired up? I don't think Mason offers enough and I'm not impressed with Onomah. So if Dembele needs to be replaced what is the best midfield pairing for Spurs?

everyone saying about wanyama and dier isn't creative enough isnt that what the 3 in front of them are for. not many dm's are also creative cant think of any that could do a defensive job like wanyama and yet are still a creative player

If we sign Wanyama I back Poch 100%, he knows what he needs more than anyone. I get why some want a DLP as a lot of great European and International teams have them, but I'm just not sure wants one. He realises you need physical presence in England and it's more that which we lost when dembele was out. It's not like dembele spreads passes around. I think Dier's passing is better, definitely better than some here give him credit for. He also has a good cross on him.

We struck gold with Modric but he was a pretty unique talent. I remember us being very impressive for a while with Dembele/Sandro under AVB and obviously Dier/Dembele last year. After all the creativity is supposed to come from the 3 behind kane in Pochs system.

Most Wanyama haters are the Bentaleb loving type, in which case he might be the answer to your box to box passer role anyway.

Like Alderweireld last year it seems a no brainer for Wanyama. I remember there being a load who thought he was average and some sexier, lesser known football manager star was a better option.

Big links to Batshuayi and now Wanyama, media noise on Embolo, things looking quite promising IMO.

Wanyama is cover for Dier, well at least we all hope. Dembele is Dier's partner. That is not up for any debate. That was the best CM partnership in the league last season. We need adequate cover for Dembele now too. Im not entirely sure we have that at the moment

I don't understand people moaning about Wanyama. Have they even watched him play? Ever? He'd be a good addition to the squad & would increase competition for places in the midfield 2! That is surely a positive.

He gives us the option of two genuine defensive midfielders then, something we can't say we currently have with Mason, Carroll or Bentaleb!

I think he'll be useful against physical Premier league sides, particularly when we're coming off the back of a CL Wednesday/ weekend sequence. He's not eloquent, but he doesn't need to be. He's as strong as an ox, clearly buys into Poch's way of doing things and will give us a real physical presence when needed. I think he might surprise a few people and he was a better player under Poch than he was the season just gone. A pragmatic, non-glamourous but necessary signing.
how do you know? He might speak beautifully!

The midfield two have to feed the front players quickly though. Certainly one of the midfield two need to be able to receive the ball, move with it and spot a pass.

Funny you should say that - because with Dier and Wanyama holding at his disposal I could see Poch more likely throwing in someone like Winks alongside. Especially if one of Carroll and Mason is let go.
Signed a new contract in March, less than a year after his previous one, so clearly impressing in training.

I think people forget how injury prone Dembele is.... and also the fact he is not a DM, Mason is not a DM, although Bentaleb does a job there he is not a DM. So with Dier the only DM, I think it is a no brainer that we sign someone like Wanayama.

I agree with the sentiment of Mason going, although I am perhaps the only Spurs fan who still believes that Tom Carroll can do a job, although perhaps he can alternate with both Eriksen and Dembele as CM/AM. I hope he has a future with Spurs, the guy has talent.

To be able to slot in a rejuvenated Bentaleb and Wanyama and rest Dier and Dembele in a mid week game is a big improvement on last season.

Perfectly put.

Think Poch will, and perhaps should, leave bentaleb, mason, winks, carroll etc.. to fight for the right to cover the beast. the battle starts first day of preseason, and if none of them take this on by kick off then a late dip into the market might be necessary. This bazoer kid could be a good choice but no wishlisting!

Id feel a lot more comfortable about the beastless first month of the season with wanyama alongside dier, particularly if we have to go to manchester or liverpool early on. but if we do have a couple of home games against park the bus opposition id rather see alli or eriksen drop back.

Assuming wanyama coming in allows poch to play dier to rest toby, Kanes jobshare is the final piece of the jigsaw for me.

The midfield is not up for debate? Look at how different our midfield was last year compared to now--the window is young and if Poch wants to change our midfield he will.

Transfers don't have to always be about like-for-like replacements (and until we're winning the UCL they shouldn't be). There was no Alli before Alli, no Kane before Kane, etc. New players can be as much about providing a new dimension to the side should the team need it at any point. Dier is great but Wanyama is not a copy of him and we should view that as a benefit (should we sign him).

We could get info on bloody Ronaldo & there'd be a moaning contingent

In fact go read the Zlatan thread to illustrate just that point.
