Who that we didn't already know about has Mitchell signed? Hardly any unheard of gems was there?
And he has served his notice period. No wonder info has been on lockdown.

It will be interesting to hear how this pans out. The recent transfer delays have been telling. I wonder if it is greener grass, a hot Spurs Kitchen or he just got Levyed when he tried to close the deals.

After Bayern Munich sold Gotze, I think they need an AMC..... Plus Ribery and Robben pushing 34 so I won't be surprise if BM comes knocking our door for his service. Then again they could just get Isco and James off from RM.... So it's like waiting for dust to settle before next move.

Anyway Dortmund had been aggressive this window and BM will need to act to replace Gotze and back up Ribery. James would be best fit IMO or Bale.
I'd be surprised. I like Eriksen, but he is not Bayern level, not yet anyway. He wouldn't get many games ahead of Muller either.

Anyway the rumour is rubbish.

He had absolutely no say in that deal. It was David Pleat.

So David Pleat was Head of Recruitment? I think not. David Pleat may (or may not) have suggested Dele Alli but the Head of Recruitment would be the one to see that matter through to the happy conclusion. If that's not the case then this may be the reason why Paul Micthell has resigned.

David Pleat was the one. We watched him for 2 years very closely a four intention was known by all accounts.

My understanding of his role was to organise our scouting networks to unearth hidden gems, not to sign off on already known targets.

Also do we not have a comittee to decide on our purchases.

If that's the case I guess Stambouli, Njie and Wimmer can fall under that category considering we did not have major competition by similar standing clubs in those occasions. That would be a fairly mixed bag really....

Isn't the point though that it was Pleat who suggested/spotted Alli, not Mitchell. He may have finalized it, but all clubs have people that finalize deals. Spotting the talent is the hard part, surely. Obviously Mitchell has a good eye for talent, but we will survive, after all, our academy/young players - which is one of the best set-ups in the PL - had nothing to do with Mitchell.

There were lots on here panicking when United and Liverpool were trying to poach him.

Maybe Mitchell's Nanny McPhee. He comes in, does his magic, then moves on to his next a assignment.

Mitchell's role is not just spotting talent - that's actually what Rob Makenzie does for us. It's overseeing the benchmarking of players - both our own and those we are watching - to best inform our transfer strategy.

That could be hidden gems he or his team unearth, recommended by an agent or ex player, or benchmarking those against our own squad and youth prospects.

The move to hire Mitchell was as a response to the club loosing it's way and becoming too reactive to tip offs or which player was being touted around by agents - as well as an apparent disconnect between AVB and the academy.

Rather than now where we might methodically spend 6 months to analyse how best to strengthen our pipeline of Centre Backs for instance. Is it to spend £20m on a starter and demote Vertonghen? Or can we stick with Verts as a starter and buy Wimmer for £6m. Done.

Who do we replace Fazio with? There's A, B, C, D or Carter-Vickers. A. Don't buy anyone.

Who do we understudy Lamela with? A. Likewise, same process - buy a two footed LWF like N'Koudou, clear the decks by selling Pritchard and Chadli, and thus open a path for Marcus Edwards so he doesn't leave.

Sometimes the most valuable thing a Head of Recruitment can do is to recommend to NOT sign a player as we've got better coming through. Or shift a squad player on for the same reason.

How do you know that it was David Pleat?

As Head of Recruitment Mitchell would have played a key part in the signing of Dele Alli. That was his job.
David Pleat himself, along with Tim Sherwood for starters.
