Rumours he was on 60k a week or so, he likely had a nice little sign on fee, too.... No player is free in this market.

That being said, I think Chadli would absolutely excel at Swansea.

Sign on fee was reported to be £7m or something stupid.

David Pleat himself, along with Tim Sherwood for starters.

I'm sure that the Club gets many recommendations on players from numerous sources that Spurs might sign. But it's the Head of Recruitment that would make the decision to proceed or not. Or at least it should be...

I wonder why Paul Mitchell has decided to move on. Could it be that he had planned to acquire certain players and the Club was not following through on his suggestions? Or maybe the Club was still responding to player agent suggestions contrary to what Mitchell had to say?

It's puzzling that Mitchell would decide to move on at this point - particularly with a team that has just come off a fabulous season.

We can only speculate. But Alli was very clearly all David Pleat. Your other comments I am almost in total agreement with you.

story in daily mail - he resigned - itk says he is going to Everton

They've been chucking money and there's definitely a challenge for his role there...

P.s. It's also pretty clear the new owner has absolutely no idea what they are doing too - they've been consistently linked with CL players etc...

Mitchell's role is not just spotting talent - that's actually what Rob Makenzie does for us. It's overseeing the benchmarking of players - both our own and those we are watching - to best inform our transfer strategy.

That could be hidden gems he or his team unearth, recommended by an agent or ex player, or benchmarking those against our own squad and youth prospects.

The move to hire Mitchell was as a response to the club loosing it's way and becoming too reactive to tip offs or which player was being touted around by agents - as well as an apparent disconnect between AVB and the academy.

Rather than now where we might methodically spend 6 months to analyse how best to strengthen our pipeline of Centre Backs for instance. Is it to spend £20m on a starter and demote Vertonghen? Or can we stick with Verts as a starter and buy Wimmer for £6m. Done.

Who do we replace Fazio with? There's A, B, C, D or Carter-Vickers. A. Don't buy anyone.

Who do we understudy Lamela with? A. Likewise, same process - buy a two footed LWF like N'Koudou, clear the decks by selling Pritchard and Chadli, and thus open a path for Marcus Edwards so he doesn't leave.

Sometimes the most valuable thing a Head of Recruitment can do is to recommend to NOT sign a player as we've got better coming through. Or shift a squad player on for the same reason.
Very informative post- cheers.

Everton throwing 30 million at bolasie, mitch us already working his magic
That's probably why Everton is going after him now. To stop those kinds of idiotic signings. If your spending that much on Bolasie, there is something majorly wrong.

Well @Trix has said from the start there wouldn't be mass numbers of incomings.

Both of these guys and Levy's systems previously seemed to be based on large turnarounds of playing staff at a profit.

Maybe they felt like they were twiddling their thumbs with so little action? Hmm.
