Wow - any club paying for victims' silence is despicable.

If this comes out as true then this will be a huge story.

Powerful companies and people using ther position and wealth to cover and enable sexual abuse is a massive problem in the world. Finding it is happening in football shouldn't come as a shock but it has.

I was under the assumption that they paid him off years ago and that it's difficult to punish a club when those involved may have long gone. I glossed over the article and it says the payment was made in the last 3 years?? WOW. If that's accurate then they should be made an example of.

Is it too strong to suggest a severe points deduction or relegation, or will they just punish the club in the pocket as always? Which hardly ever works with this scummy club.

Least shocking news that it's Chelsea involved. Just a disgusting football club from top to bottom.

Arsenal are our nearest and dearest of course but even I can see they do have 'something' about them. Even West Ham have 'something' there, almost all clubs do in some form. Chelsea? Just disgusting. Absolutely nothing positive or to be admired about them. A stain on the English game.

The club added it had "no desire to hide any historic abuse".

Really?? Paying someone off constitutes as having no desire to hide something so appalling.

They really are the lowest of the low.

AND it's incredibly wrong that the headlines today are of Chelsea's win rather than news of this magnitude and disgrace.

Chelsea have come out and apologised to Johnson for the abuse he suffered in the 70's. They're only apologising because it's now public. Did they apologise to him 40 odd years ago or just pay him to keep quiet? Fucking disgusting club. The government need to get involved in this.

More than that. The person they are covering up for is free to molest other children. The people who made that agreement should be arrested for perverting the course of justice. Even if the paedophile is dead now.

Well said, it beggars belief that lawyers and Chelsea's insurers, advised them to bury this and pay the victim off.

Just seen this guy being interviewed on Sky News

http://news.sky.com/story/barry-bennell-victim-david-lean-told-police-but-no-one-listened-10676263

Barry Bennell victim David Lean told police of hundreds more but 'no one listened'

I've just watched that and will admit I found it truly upsetting.

David lean is someone I remember from my junior football days. He's about 8 years older than me and was involved in coaching at the club I played my schoolboy football at.

I'd guess if I walked up to him and mentioned my name and my dad's he may well remember us as my dad was an ex pro footballer who managed my junior team for a number of years.

A quick google suggests David still works in a managerial position for the football club / organisation.

The story I'm about to tell shows the positive impact such an important and trusted figure as your junior football coach can have.

My dad died from cancer in 2006. It was fairly sudden and not that many people locally knew he was ill.

At his funeral there were several parents from the football team I played in 20 years previously and more importantly a couple of my team mates. One guy had travelled from London to Lancashire and taken the day off work. It was much appreciated and something I will always remember.

He told me that playing for our team and winning the league and cup year after year when my dad was manager were the happiest memories he had as a child.

What a tragedy so many young players were abused whilst pursuing their dreams.
